  2. OP has a weird, and some might think, unhealthy obsession with Teddy Allen. Also, a bad habit of cluttering up the board with constant new threads finding ways to mention Teddy Allen. Here's a tip for anyone who thinks it might be a good idea to click on the button labeled "Start new topic"...don't. Just don't. There's almost always already a relevant topic on the board where one can post their thoughts. There's already at least two current threads OP could have posted his thoughts in that would serve to move discussion forward. Starting new threads to post a random thought then never following up is a strong indicator of troll activity and whenever we have a new member that comes in and starts a bunch of new threads I'm always very leery. And just for the record, @Husker Hoops Penitent seems like an okay person. I don't really have a beef with his Teddy Allen obsession per se, I just have hope that he will be a more active participant in the community's discussion rather than forcing everyone to participate in topics only he's interested in. This is just a pet peeve of mine. I wish there was a minimum post requirement for starting new threads here.

  3. I think we need to start expecting more of our guys. Not saying we should expect 20 wins or even that we should have expected them to win today. However we have to expect them to shoot better, play hard the whole game, not fall behind by 30, ect. We can’t just sit back the ENTIRE year and say “well we haven’t played together that much, well it’s year one, etc. I don’t think it’s right to let the players or Fred off the hook for losses like we saw in our first two games or for being behind 40-9.

  4. Serious question...when Creighton vacates this win in a few years, will this retroactively impact the 2019-2020 HHC prediction contest?

  6. On a day like today, coming here to bash a guy that hasn’t been our coach in 9 months, got us our first NCAA tournament appearance in so many years I don’t remember, got us our first draft pick since I don’t remember, and was an overall great guy and ambassador for the program as one of your first posts is a good way to make one think you might be wearing blue today.

  7. I'm not buying the "whole team is new" argument. This is the reality of college basketball and there are a ton of teams with huge turnover who wouldn't fall behind Creighton by 30.

  13. To the Husker community, and 49r in particular- I meant no harm by starting a new thread and will try to participate more in current threads. I must confess a weakness for Husker outbursts of that nature. As for my obsession with Allen, it definitely is that, and quite likely unhealthy. Consider it a form of P.T.S.D. at seeing the rare few local players who could likely reverse the trend of Husker basketball's historic underachievement sign with other schools. But I will go one step further: the whole notion of a fifty-four year old man caring about the on-court results of late-teen-early twenty year old men I don't know, playing a game I never played competitively is weird. As for the oblique intimations that I am a troll are unfounded. I'm quite sure I would score in the upper 80th percentile in any reasonable survey of Husker basketball history, but as I am not as seasoned as 49r in message board protocols it seems fair to assume. That said, now go get Teddy Allen!

  16. Pouting your way into the lineup isn't going to cut it at this school nor should it. If Arop or Easley end up in the rotation it will because they earned their way in

  17. Teams have roster turnover, that's NCAA basketball in 2019, but after a trip to Italy and eight games of the season, blaming 30 point deficits on newness is disingenuous, It's lack of talent, lack of effort, lack of strategy.

  23. Well fellas, this sucks. I work with a bunch of CU Alums in Omaha and work won’t be fun on Monday. I will just say this. Somewhere, somehow, Nebraska male athletes don’t compete with as much fire as other schools. I know that’s a big generalization, but look at Marcus Zegarowski and Shereef Mitchell. Those guys are playing 120% full out offensively and defensively. Their effort can’t be questioned. Most of our guys look like they’d rather go back to the “just got done with the scrimmage now waiting for Rick Ross to perform” memory. You can say it’s a transition year or a rebuilding year all you want, but that doesn’t mean the players should come out tucked and defeated within the first few minutes. My CU alum coworkers all told me this was a massive rebuilding year for CU, I think they only have 7 available scholarship players today. i didn’t expect to win, but I did expect more effort and fight.

  24. My expectations of the team this season aren't derived from the score of the game. 17% shooting for much of this game isn't acceptable from any Division 1 player.

  31. I would be surprised if there isn't another player who transfers by the end of the year, at least. When Coaches with Hoiberg's ability and expectations field a team this bad, or perhaps "incomplete" yet there are scholarship players who don't see playing time it usually portends roster upheaval. I have always used Kansas as the measure of a healthy program. I can't recall ever seeing a scholarship freshman non-contributor stick around more than a couple of years before transferring- usually they leave after their forgettable freshman season. Scholarships are golden and if one aims for real success then seeing a man perpetually riding the bench is alarming. I am not saying improvement through the years isn't to be expected but rarely does anyone go from next to no minutes as freshmen on a bad team to any kind of large contribution in the next couple of years. I certainly can't recall any at NU- perhaps someone else does. Nevertheless an example cited likely proves the "rule" In addition to (hopefully) Teddy Allen, NU needs two great re-bounders next season to make significant improvement so Curtis' defection may be viewed as addition by subtraction. Now we'll see if Abdelmassih is worth the high salary. (I think he is but the verdict is out....)

  32. Hey, maybe this is like the Deverell Biggs situation and this is the spark the team needs to make their NCAA Tournament run (or win 4-5 games in conference)
    2 points
  33. Without a doubt Creighton is a rivalry and it should be now. Like it or not they are a Power 6 conference, legit tourney team most years type of program right down the road. The hate is real. Iowa is/will be our main Big10 rival with Wiscy close behind. I don’t like the TO and OU comparison. Hoops you play a lot more games and your conference rivals twice a year, so no one game is make or break. I do think Miles got a lot of benefit winning last year at least in Omaha but obviously not enough to overcome the melt down.

  34. Some of this was none of these guys have played in front of a crowd like this. Another part of this is we can't get consistent good looks out of our half court offense. We make everything look difficult.

  42. Games moving way too fast for a lot of our guys rn. Thats the adjustment period we will be dealing with for most of the year. The transition from high school, juco, and low D1 can be a huge struggle. Especially when most of your entire team is going through it all at once.

  44. Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-4) at Creighton Bluejays (6-2) Date: Saturday Dec 7th, 2019 Time: 1:30 p.m. Arena: CHI Health Center Omaha (17,352, 17th largest in D-I) Broadcast: FS1 Creighton Info Head Coach: Greg McDermott Location: Omaha, NE Conference: Big East Nickname: Bluejays Mascot: Billy Bluejay Typical Rotation Depth: 6+ Line: Creighton by 11.5 KenPom rank: 55 Previous history: Huskers and Jays are tied up at 26 wins each in the rivalry Offensive Style: LET IT FLY Defensive Style: Don't foul Key Injuries: Jacob Epperson, Davion Mintz, Kelvin Jones? Hoiberg Presser Cheatham Presser Players to watch: Christian Bishop The sophomore PF is Creighton's starting center due to injuries. The high flying Bishop is the only rim protector the Jays have and the biggest threat to draw fouls. With Jones questionable, Bishop will probably need to play softly on D or risk foul trouble. Players to watch: Marcus Zegarowski With all due respect to Alexander or Ballock, Zegarowski is the star of this Jays team and when he isn't setting up teammates for easy looks he's hitting from everywhere at a high percentage. Roster points PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 11 Marcus Zegarowski 6-2 180 So 5 Ty-Shon Alexander 6-4 195 Jr 23 Damien Jefferson 6-5 200 Jr 24 Mitch Ballock 6-5 205 Jr 13 Christian Bishop 6-7 205 So 24.7 The Jays might have the 3 or even 4 most talented players on the court but after that things get dicey. It will help their cause if Kevin Jones, their backup center who left last game with a foot injury, can play Alexander has picked up where he left off last year and is capable of carrying the offense in addition to one of the better rebounders on the team Ballock can still hit from everywhere Jefferson is easily the weak link on offense and has slumped from 3 Freshman Shereef Mitchell has stepped up and played well as a secondary PG. Has yet to hit a 3. Freshman walk-on Jett Canfield is really the only other player receiving significant minutes and has been serviceable Senior walk-on Jordan Scurry and schoarlship Fr Jalen Windham have only played garbage minutes but I mention them because they could be pressed to play on Saturday Scouting Creighton The Skinny: There is a decent argument that this isn't a rivalry because as Tim Miles can attest, winning or losing the game vs Creighton isn't much of a factor when it comes to job security. This game really does matter though to the fans of both schools if for no other reason both lost any of their other long standing conference rivals in the last decade. For most people, this is their 'if you can only win one game, let it be this one' game. A lot of Nebraska teams have melted under the lights at Creighton. Is this year's young and swaggy team any different? The Jays and their ability to pour in points with their talented players and home court advantage are probably too much to overcome for this young Nebraska team who has struggled with lesser teams at home. In some ways thought this is a good matchup for the Huskers. Nebraska has only won games where they shoot at high percentage and has only done so against teams with defenses as poor as the Jays. The Huskers half court offense has been substandard but here is a Creighton team that wants to run in transition. Can Nebraska wear down the shorthanded Jays who have notably swooned in 2nd halves this year? The Jays should slow this game down any chance they get and punt on any offensive rebounds in order to make Nebraska earn points and to frustrate a young Nebraska team into beating itself. Are the Jays ready to do the smart thing after being pants'ed last year in Lincoln? Will they let the game fly out of their control? Prediction: Creighton 89 - Nebraska 80 View full article

If that's what beating a rival means then they aren't our rival. It's a game we all want to win more than most but in no way the measuring stick of the program nor predictor of future success. I'm old enough to remember when we killed a good Jays team and then got our teeth kicked in during conference.
