I think we need to start expecting more of our guys. Not saying we should expect 20 wins or even that we should have expected them to win today. However we have to expect them to shoot better, play hard the whole game, not fall behind by 30, ect. We can’t just sit back the ENTIRE year and say “well we haven’t played together that much, well it’s year one, etc. I don’t think it’s right to let the players or Fred off the hook for losses like we saw in our first two games or for being behind 40-9.

Serious question...when Creighton vacates this win in a few years, will this retroactively impact the 2019-2020 HHC prediction contest?

I'm not buying the "whole team is new" argument. This is the reality of college basketball and there are a ton of teams with huge turnover who wouldn't fall behind Creighton by 30.

To the Husker community, and 49r in particular- I meant no harm by starting a new thread and will try to participate more in current threads. I must confess a weakness for Husker outbursts of that nature. As for my obsession with Allen, it definitely is that, and quite likely unhealthy. Consider it a form of P.T.S.D. at seeing the rare few local players who could likely reverse the trend of Husker basketball's historic underachievement sign with other schools. But I will go one step further: the whole notion of a fifty-four year old man caring about the on-court results of late-teen-early twenty year old men I don't know, playing a game I never played competitively is weird. As for the oblique intimations that I am a troll are unfounded. I'm quite sure I would score in the upper 80th percentile in any reasonable survey of Husker basketball history, but as I am not as seasoned as 49r in message board protocols it seems fair to assume. That said, now go get Teddy Allen!

Huh. I never figured a bunch of rich entitled kids from Chicago and Millard would still be complaining about officials' calls with a 23-point lead late in the game. Who knew?
  10. 2 points
well, they score like doc's old teams. a shame they can't defend like them tho.

Leaning toward not winning another game, even if we don’t come back in this one. Let’s do our part to tank Creighton’s SOS & NET rankings. (Hey, if you can’t find something to cheer for, try to bring everyone else down with you...)

Well fellas, this sucks. I work with a bunch of CU Alums in Omaha and work won’t be fun on Monday. I will just say this. Somewhere, somehow, Nebraska male athletes don’t compete with as much fire as other schools. I know that’s a big generalization, but look at Marcus Zegarowski and Shereef Mitchell. Those guys are playing 120% full out offensively and defensively. Their effort can’t be questioned. Most of our guys look like they’d rather go back to the “just got done with the scrimmage now waiting for Rick Ross to perform” memory. You can say it’s a transition year or a rebuilding year all you want, but that doesn’t mean the players should come out tucked and defeated within the first few minutes. My CU alum coworkers all told me this was a massive rebuilding year for CU, I think they only have 7 available scholarship players today. i didn’t expect to win, but I did expect more effort and fight.

My expectations of the team this season aren't derived from the score of the game. 17% shooting for much of this game isn't acceptable from any Division 1 player.

I would be surprised if there isn't another player who transfers by the end of the year, at least. When Coaches with Hoiberg's ability and expectations field a team this bad, or perhaps "incomplete" yet there are scholarship players who don't see playing time it usually portends roster upheaval. I have always used Kansas as the measure of a healthy program. I can't recall ever seeing a scholarship freshman non-contributor stick around more than a couple of years before transferring- usually they leave after their forgettable freshman season. Scholarships are golden and if one aims for real success then seeing a man perpetually riding the bench is alarming. I am not saying improvement through the years isn't to be expected but rarely does anyone go from next to no minutes as freshmen on a bad team to any kind of large contribution in the next couple of years. I certainly can't recall any at NU- perhaps someone else does. Nevertheless an example cited likely proves the "rule" In addition to (hopefully) Teddy Allen, NU needs two great re-bounders next season to make significant improvement so Curtis' defection may be viewed as addition by subtraction. Now we'll see if Abdelmassih is worth the high salary. (I think he is but the verdict is out....)

Did the team not drastically improve from the UC Riverside loss to the USF win? We saw boatloads of improvement in that stretch. But this our first game against a top 40(ish) team and it is showing. Thats how i see it atleast. You cant say whether they are improving or not because we havent really seen them against this level of competition.

No offense taken. I work with 5 CU alums that go to the games and are more than just an average fan. i guess they thought with Krampl leaving and Epperson rehabbing (before he got hurt) they were in for a rebuilding year. Let’s not forget Zegarowski went from a guy who was decent to playing like his hair is on fire. Some of their sentiment came from their perception of being severely undersized, especially for the Big East. Frankly, I don’t care about CU. I just know I’m buying the office donuts Monday...

@Husker Hoops Penitent thanks for taking my constructive criticism at face value, I certainly don't want to discourage you from posting, like I said you seem like a pretty all right guy. I personally just like to see people get rewarded by starting thoughtful topics that have lots of active participation, and I think that when someone else then starts a very similar topic of discussion, especially when that similar thread is still so active, that seems like a slight to the original thread topic, plus it really clutters up the board. But like I said before it's a pet peeve of mine, that's all. And believe me when I say you aren't alone in your desire to see Nebrasketball start to lock down the local talent once again. That's how Danny built such a strong program during his time here. But also join me in recognizing that there are more dudes out there than just this one. I'm willing to put my complete trust in this staff to accurately evaluate who is likely to be a perfect fit for their program, and willing to let that happen. Hopefully the rest of us can too, because if we're willing to be patient I think they can build something pretty special here. If it happens to be they think Allen will work out then I'm good with that. If not, I'm good with that too. Trust me when I say I know that Fred Hoiberg alone has more basketball knowledge in his pinky finger than the entirety of the HHC community has combined. (except maybe Bruce Chubick but I'm not sure he's ever on here any more) Oh, and 54 is probably closer to the median age of the posters here than you might realize.

Maybe Ray Gallegos. He averaged 13 MPG as a true freshman on a 2 - 14 team. Became a good player after spending 4 years here.

Just saw your bump, nice read. Very talented but if that attitude reared it's head this early, he will need to check that. Also with Hoiberg's NBA connections, maybe not the best person to butt heads with!

Although I think we’ll probably lose handily, it’s still the game I look forward to the most (and still am this year). That being said, I live in Omaha so have to see people in jaysker gear frequently. If you don’t think this isn’t our biggest game of the year, you were not at last year’s game. Damn that crowd wanted that game like I’ve never seen before.

Given he was the youngster I was the most intrigued by far and away this sucks. Don't know if he was sold a bill of goods on playing time or what. Thought he'd have a roll as a shooter, could at least have given him a chunk of Matej Kavas' minutes. I'm not shocked, just bummed out. We hardly knew ya Samari
