  1. So if I start clicking this topic once every 30 seconds going forward instead of once a minute like I have been doing, will that increase the chances of a last-minute decision in the positive? I'm willing to wear out my computer buttons for the team if that's what it takes.

  2. I believe they're trying to argue last year should be a redshirt year. He only played in four games at Pitt before transfering to Nevada at semester. If the was cleared, he'd be a sophomore with three full years to play.

  5. Missing college basketball? Tired of waiting until December for conference matchups? Well you're in luck! The ACC looked at the Big Ten and said "hold my beer," so NC State and Georgia Tech face off tonight at 7:30 CT with conference standing implications on the line.

  6. Nebraska Cornhuskers (0-0) vs UC Riverside Highlanders (0-0) Date: Tuesday Nov 11, 2019 Time: 8:00 pm Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN UC RIverside Info Head Coach: David Patrick Location: Riverside, CA Conference: Big West Nickname: Highlanders Mascot: Scotty Highlander Last season: 10-23 Line: Nebraska by 15 Tempo: Slow Style: Throw it in to the big man when he's on the court Things to note This is the first matchup between UC Riverside and Nebraska. The Highlanders made the move to Div 1 in 2001 and have had one season where they finished above .500 (2009-10) This is the 2nd year for head coach David Patrick who previously was at TCU under Jamie Dixon. He's most famous though for being Ben Simmons' godfather and was an assistant at LSU where the former #1 overall pick put in his time before the draft. Patrick grew up in Australia and you can see his connections into the that region as the Highlanders have 3 Australians and 2 New Zealanders on the roster. UC Riverside Roster (Crossed out guys are redshirting). Nebraska's Shemiel Stevenson will be redshirting until December unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA Once you get past McRae and eliminate the redshirts, there isn't much girth on this team. 6'9" Daniel Mading clocks in at a thin 200#. Nebraska with Ouedraogo and Cross has two eligible guys who clock in at 240+ Player to watch: Callum McRae The sophomore big man clocks in at 7'1" 275 lbs and last season was one of the focal points of the Highlander offense while on the court, which was about 19 minutes a game. Though young McRae sports a soft touch around the rim and is a dominant rebounder. McRae and his lack of speed doesn't offer much in terms of shot blocking and look for Nebraska to push even on made baskets if the big man isn't back on his own side. Look for Nebraska to try and have Yvan check in and out when McRae does. Player to watch: Dikymbe Martin The 6'1" combo guard and UCR's returning leading scorer was one of the best 3pt shooters in the country last year, knocking down 44.9% of his attempts.. Martin is known for his range and he's a threat to knock down a shot from well behind the 3pt line. He's also known for his lack of defense so the Huskers will be wise to try and exploit him when he's on the court. Hoiberg Presser Cheatham Presser Hoiberg on Sports Nightly These are some good listens if you're trying to catch up with the brand new team but otherwise you've probably know a lot of this stuff. The Skinny: You got sort of a feel of the capabilities of this team during the exhibition when the Huskers put up 91 points despite a sluggish start and a subpar night from the line and from 3. This will be the fastest paced team in Nebraska Men's history as Fred Hoiberg and his undersized roster attempt to run teams off the court. This probably not very good Riverside team will be a nice test as they will attempt to slow down the pace and have a traditional center. UCR also has viable 3pt shooters so simply collapsing into the paint isn't the end-all solution. The Highlanders might not be that good but they should put up more fight than Doane. There are lots of questions to be answered about this basketball team. Here are some key ones I have that I'm looking for answers to in this first game. Who guards Dikymbe Martin, arguably their most dynamic scorer, when we run a strict man to man defense? Do we put our best defender on him or match up with relative height? Who do we consider our best defender? Can Nebraska win the turnover battle and will that make a difference in games this year? Assuming we're going to lose a lot of the rebounding battles, you need to gain those extra possessions taking care of the ball. There were a lot of unforced turnovers vs Doane. Is that a sign of things to come? Are there any elite contact drawers and who are they? From their stats it would seem that Burke and eventually Stevenson can get to the line. Who else on the team has the willingness and ability to draw fouls? Back to the pressing question: who is going to win this game? At some point the amount of speed and talent on this Nebraska team will be too much to handle for UCR and the Huskers should take control of this game. Even if the Highlanders have sped up their game relative to last year, there is no way this team will want to run with the Nebraska. (still seems odd to say) Look for UCR's slow pace and offensive rebounds to keep the overall score a little lower and closer than might be desired. Prediction: Nebraska 82 - UCR 70 with a 73% chance of Runza View full article

  9. Saw the replays and Grace had real nice moves in space... into the basket. Looked good ! (Grace isn't a back to the basket player ...more of a forward skill set, but has been inside as needed last year.. The whole team looks more mature. But we'll see a good sample up close tomorrow, and the next couple of games. Like said here....a couple of days ago....getting the FEVER!

  10. nice statement about Grace. so glad she stuck with the huskers. was taken back a bit when i saw she was starting against Rogers St, but, then got to thinking it could be her only chance. unless injury bug hits (knock on wood) she probably isn't going to see very many minutes this season. think starting Grace was great by coach williams.

  11. I stopped doing the HHCC contest because I'd forget to pick a score some game and it would knock me out of the running and then I'd be all pissed about it. That said, I'm going to make a prediction about the season win-loss record because I'm usually accused (and guilty) of being a sunshine pumper but I look at some of these win predictions in this thread and find myself scratching my head. I get told I do it every year -- pump things up and make it seem like we'll go undefeated. I've pumped things up this year as well, but just want to go on record that, while I'm excited about what we're going to see from Hoiberg's team, I don't have any misapprehension about us being a top shelf Big Ten team. I mean, we're not. And we won't be. I think we'll have a very good back court, but I think we'll struggle in conference games and it'd be a pretty good accomplishment for us to win more than about 3-4 conference games. So, I'm thinking 7-8 non-con wins and another 3-4, maybe 5, conference wins. I'm going to say 12 total wins and I'll be satisfied. More than that and I'm happy.

  17. Considering 14 of 16 on the roster weren't practicing with the Big Red in Lincoln last season, I actually find it refreshing that coaches temper expectations than tell us a 'tale.'

  19. This is actually a kind of cool idea. It would be really cool to see something like a "Conference Tip Off" series where either all "Power 5" conferences play their first game on a day within the first 5 days of the season or you spread them out over the course of the five days. For Example, this year could have looked something like this. Tuesday- Pac-12 Conference Games Wednesday- SEC Conference Games Thursday- Big 12 Conference Games Friday- Big 10 Conference Games Saturday- ACC Conference Games

  20. I told a buddy of mine that the Florida State job opening up was great for Oregon bc Taggart (he was the Ducks HC for one season) was going to ruin what they had built there. Florida State is gonna shoot for the big dogs (Urban Meyer, James Franklin, Bob Stoops) and strike out. I say they end up with a Mark Stoops, PJ Fleck, or Matt Campbell type coach.

  22. My mantra (for sake of my sanity) has become with Husker sports, to set the bar low and avoid disappointment. imo we already as a fanbase have CRAZY high expectations(Nebrasketball fans are better), for little reason. I'm trying to be more level headed and I think I'm much better than I once was. Cheers on putting your foot in for HHCC a bit this year. I usually miss a good handful and I wouldn't worry about missing them yourself, just do what you can. I agree on the numbers. I had 5 non con wins, and total wins at 14 but only inflated because of some winnable games in cayman classic. I look forward to see how good (or bad as usual) the team is away from home. We might be amazing at home, but might take a few years to get there.

I think he is going to be a junior whether he plays now or at semester's end. The waiver is just for immediate eligibility. Thats atleast how I understand it.

  25. Yeah, I heard either Bas or Washut on the radio said that waivers usually drop Friday, thinking we won't hear a peep until then. Really sucks for Shamiel - yet another situation where the biggest victim is the student athlete. He has two coaches leave their school with out consequence but here he is finally on a team with a coach he committed to - and he can't play.

  34. I don’t believe I fall into the “doom and gloom” category. I take a pragmatic view. We have a veteran returning lineup but other B1G Schools have also upgraded their talent. I want the Huskers to succeed and would be thrilled if the season ends in the NCAA’s.
