  8. I think the NBA was on the verge of having a ton of parity next year, but the Klay and KD injuries just solidifies that thought for me. My guess is that KD would have left pre-injury, which would have brought the Warriors back down to Earth (still a great team and top 3 team in the league, but not unbeatable). Now they are without KD and Klay for good chunks or even the entire season next year. I do not think a Steph/Draymond led team will be a factor in the West, especially with all their money tied up in two injured stars. The West is now Houstons to take. But also has a plethora of good teams in Denver, Portland, Utah, OKC, Spurs, and both LA teams (yes I included LAL). Even a young Sacramento Kings team if they can continue to progress like they did last season or Dallas Mavericks with the reigning ROTY and hopefully healthy Porzingod. Theres a legit 9 other teams in the West that with a good draft/free agency and/or player development could make a case as the best team. Over in the East, you have the reigning champs in Toronto plus Boston, Philly, and Milwaukee who all have a young super star or core of stars to build around. I for one, cannot wait!!!

The pitching coach pick is interesting I can understand it from one perspective... From what I remember Christy called his own games. (That doesn't happen too often at Nebraska) He has a knack for it. He also did well in calling a couple of games at A&M when Childress got ejected and attended his daughter's graduation at UNL. Also former catchers learn how to manage a staff through first hand observation and how to handle hitters. Old catchers make good coaches in general. From a head scratching perspective for me ..I am not sure how much he knows about pitching mechanics&developing different pitches. I don't know enough to have any idea on how that works. Pretty much clueless. What I find interesting is that Bolt served on staff with Christy and Silva for 3 years at Nebraska and he chose Christy to be the pitching coach. Is that because he wanted a fresh staff at Nebraska? Does he get along better with Christy? Is Silva tired of his current position? Maybe Christy is that good? Maybe this has more to do with the recruiting coordinator duties and Lance Harvell. Maybe Christy can recruit locally better than Silva and Harvell is a top notch recruiting coordinator. It could be the overall combination of skills across the staff are better this way. Time will tell.

    Coach Bolt

Congratulations to Coach Bolt! Great to here that this was his dream job. When he went back to the state of TX, I thought he wanted to be back home pretty much for good. Will be interesting to see what he can do here. It's not always the "sexy hire" that can accomplish the most at a particular program. GBR!!

  12. If this is true, it's not a particularly experienced staff. They'll recruit the hell out of Texas. My guess is we don't see many kids outside of Nebraska and Texas. Christy as pitching coach is interesting, as a catcher he'll know how to handle a staff, but interesting how they'll coach mechanics. Time will tell.

    Coach Bolt

This is a really "meh" hire for me. I know, I know, he's a former Husker. I just think they could have gone with someone better.

  14. Gary Sharp just said it’s probably gonna be Bolt. Van Horn and Childress both recommended him. Bolt says it’s his Dream job. DVH says he has the “it factor”. Moos will get him a stout asst pool. I for one will be very excited. JUCO, Texas and Nebraska connections already in place. A good pitching coach is a must.

  15. Very interesting to think abut lineups and combinations. I agree with Uneblinstu that a big factor is when Stevenson becomes eligible. If Stevenson is eligible, I'd see either him or Ouedrago starting as the big, with Mack, Burke, Green and Cheatham filling out the starting lineup. The non-starter between Stevenson or Ouedrago, Kavas, Curtis and Cross would round out the 9 man rotation. Perhaps Arop will surprise, but from what I saw of him in high school (admittedly only a few games), a redshirt year would probably help him. Thor will provide some depth. I'd guess it's likely the starting 5 will be fluid prior to conference play. More important than the starting 5 will be who we'll see on the court at crunch time. I'm hoping we have a core of 3-4 guys who will stand out, with match-ups determining the other 1-2 guys on the floor. The concern I have is our ability to defend true post players. Can we handle guys like Teske and Wesson by guarding them with guys like Stevenson and Kavas? Ouedrago looks like he's got the body to hang, but can he hold his own against experienced D1 players? On the other hand, if we go small, we create match-up problems for our opponents with traditional 4/5's. It seems like Coach Hoiberg is the type of guy who likes to dictate, rather than react, to the match-ups on the floor. It would be nice to see a Nebraska team that doesn't have to fight through 5 minute scoring droughts. It should be fun to watch.
