  1. Yeah when you don't need the money, probably pretty tough to be away from home that much, putting in crazy hours a week. I think he loves coaching, but he can coach and do it putting in far less hours. Private lessons, HS ball, hell even coaching his kids. Thanks Coach! Truly appreciated the fight this 2019 squad had, and will fondly remember the last few weeks of this season.

  2. ***TIM MILES HATERS STAY AWAY. THIS IS NOT A BASH TIM MILES THREAD*** I was cleaning up and found some of my early roster projections for 2019-20 BEFORE Miles was let go and Hoiberg was hired. Just wanted to put all the eligible players side by side and make some comparisons/start some discussion. I did not factor in any attrition that would have occurred under Miles. 2019-2020 Tim Miles Fred Hoiberg Back Court Dachon Burke Cam Mack Jervay Green Dachon Burke Mika Adams-Woods Jervay Green Thomas Allen Samari Curtis Wings Amir Harris Haanif Cheatham Karrington Davis Matej Kavas Nana Akenten Thorir Thorbjarnarson Thorir Thorbjarnarson Front Court Akol Arop Akol Arop Brady Hieman Kevin Cross Isaiah Roby Shamiel Stevenson Yvan Ouedraogo

  4. Time to be with family is fair. Baseball has just as long of a season as football or basketball, but you are sometimes gone a heck of a lot more in season. Baseball has the most games out of all the men's sports and with it being an outdoor sport, you are basically away from home for the first 4 weeks of the season. I wish Erstad nothing but the best. He took a lot of criticism from many. Especially the past few days. He came in with big shoes to fill and never could get over that hump. However, he was no where near a "failure" IMO. Now we'll see if Moos can go out and do it a third time. Whoever comes in next year will have a hell of a group to work with. Should make a regional in year 1.

  5. From the sounds of things, including what Isaiah said recently (don't remember where I saw it but he was being interviewed about the draft) and basically sounds like Isaiah was planning on leaving regardless. Same with Thomas Allen. And I don't think Nana intended to stick around (not sure Miles would have kept him.) So, how does it look if we take those 3 out of there? That's what I was worried about heading into this coming season. I felt Miles really needed to do well this past season and make the tourney and win the game we've always wanted, because he was going to need to fill some spots and that would have been tough sledding without at least reaching the tourney. I don't have a lot of confidence that, with the way the season ended, Miles would have had much recruiting success filling those spots and I felt he was no more than a year away from being let go regardless. So, I think the team that would have taken the floor for Miles in the fall would look a lot like the above without Zay, Nana or TA. And that's not a team that's likely going to win too many games for you. Truthfully, I think there's a chance we would have lost Jervay Green had Miles been retained. There were rumors of KU being interested before Miles was let go. I'm just relieved that the dust has settled and, in the process of it settling, we (the athletic dept) managed to land a proven coach who was immediately able to fill the roster with some pretty solid players. I shudder to think what things would have looked like if we'd either kept Miles or replaced him with some other unproven (at this level) mid-major coach.

  7. 5. Penn State: Watkins and Stevens return. Stevens can take over games and will be one of the best players in the country. Dread and Bolton had impressive freshmen campaigns. Chambers has his best, and maybe last, chance at having a tournament team. FYI, Bolton transferred to Iowa St.

    Erstad has stepped down

Shocking news. I have always been a big fan and supporter of Erstad the coach and the person. I have been rooting for him to be one to take the program to the highest level. Of course that won't be the case now. God bless you, Darin Erstad, and all the best to you moving forward and in the next phase of your and your family's life. The epitome of what it is and means to be a Husker. GBR!

  17. We can thank the Bulls' awful front office saving face for Fred being our coach. He had an impossible roster and injury situation there. I'm pretty sure the entire coaching fraternity knows it.

  18. To be honest, I don't care who starts and I don't think it matters because whoever starts at the 5 for us, in my opinion, will not play more than 20 mpg and we'll end up with a bunch of guards on the court most of the time. I'll subscribe to the KISS (keep it simple stupid) theory: These 9 guys will play (if healthy and eligible, in order of how confident I am they will play a lot) Cam Mack (duh) Haanif Cheatham (he was brought here by Fred for one season for a reason) Matej Kavas (see above) Dachon Burke (has to play a ton) Jervay Green (has to play a ton) Shamiel Stevenson (as big a 6-6 dude as you'll find, he'll hold his own in the Big Ten) Yvan Ouedraogo (more physically ready than Cross) Samari Curtis (super talented addition so late in the process) Kevin Cross (has skills but needs to get in shape to see anything extensive...if Shamiel only becomes eligible in January, think he takes Cross's minutes) These 4 will get mop-up time: Thorir Thorbjarnarson Akol Arop Charlie Easley Jace Piatkowski These 2 will not play: Dalano Banton Derrick Walker

Now that the rosters are set...

FYI I'm really high on Illinois next year. I think they're gonna do things. Plus I really like Bezhanishvili, as much of a jackass as he is...I'd LOVE to have him on my team.

  21. Illinois at #19! Michigan below Penn State! Rutgers ahead of Indiana!!! Human sacrafice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!!! And then there's Northwestern...Collins' program is crumbling isn't it? They were a top 20 team just a couple years ago.

  22. Maybe not the Supers...even though I have seen that stat thrown out multiple times to discredit Big Ten baseball. But, you have to get to the supers to have a chance at the CWS. Having more Big Ten baseball programs make the CWS would definitely be good for the conference.

  23. Agree to disagree I guess. I just hate Michigan. And I want my boys from Holdrege and Kearney to keep winning. P.S. all of the other B1G teams crapped the bed already. Highly doubt one B1G team making the supers is really going to shape perception. But to each their own.

    One more player

If I remember right from the World Herald's multi-day look back at the Nee years from last summer, Danny liked taking teams into out-of-the-way road venues because he knew they'd be nasty, as the fans rarely had a chance to have a P5 school in their building. He thought it helped the team prepare for rough conference road environments. If I remember right, the 90-91 team's trip to UW-Green Bay was one of the toughest ones ... or at least the one where they had the most beer thrown on them. Plus he had only 14 conference games and 13-16 non-con games to fill (with 0 of those non-con games dictated by the conference like they are today). You had to be a little creative.

Working on his jumper? That shot may work in Milwaukee 40+ rec league but that ball is 4 rows deep versus a division 1 player taller than 6'3".

  27. If Stevenson is eligible, that's almost certainly the starting 5 I'd predict. Maybe we'll see them in Italy and Cross and/or Yvan are way better than I expect, but I find it unlikely they're gonna be ready to handle a D1/B1G front court from day one. I think we're gonna go "super small" quite a bit. I think, if both stick around, Cross and Yvan are gonna be a nightmare for B1G opponents for years to come, though, just not likely this November. We'll see about February and March. So, to get it down and official, my starting five is: Mack Green Burke Cheatham Stevenson (assuming eligible) If he's not, IDK, who would jump in. If he is, I'd be more than mildy surprised if it's different than this when we play our first game in November. Maybe Curtis is way better than I realize and he starts from his first on campus. Who really knows?

  28. This season is now over. I'm glad we decided to show that resiliency we heard about. This team's tournament ended as soon as that ball went over the fence last night, much like I figured.

  30. Would like to see Gelo or Erstad get the guys together outside the dugout and rally the troops. Looks like we are playing cause we have to and not cause we want to. Reminds me of the last couple regionals and not the 1st two games of this regional.

  32. That's not surprising, you've taken the overs every year for the last 15 years. (And possibly longer than that, but I don't remember reading any of your opinions before that point.) Anyway, I hope you're right. And just curious, where would you set the O/U line?

Well he’s playing in the Big East now, so won’t he have a couple games against 9th year senior Grant Gibbs? Or did Gibbs finally exhaust his eligibility?
    1 point
  34. Agreed. Same as with Cheatham having proven himself in the Big East, Burke has proven himself in Division I ball. Green may hold more promise and may be the sniper we need, but until proven otherwise, I'd go with Burke at the 2, Cheatham at the 3 and Green off the bench, probably playing 25-28 minutes nonetheless. STARTING LINEUP (Solid on both ends) 1. Mack ("I was brought here to run the show.") 2. Burke (Has played Division I ball) 3. Cheatham (Played 2.5 seasons in the Big East) 4. Stevenson (Played 1.5 seasons in the ACC) 5. Ouedraogo (Played in Lithuania once, I heard) FIRST SUBS (Lightning from the bench) 6. Green 7. Kavas NEW WAVE (Just give us 5-10 good minutes) 8. Curtis 9. Cross 10. Thorbjarnarsson WE MAY NEED YOU TONIGHT (But probably not) 11. Arop 12. Piatkowski 13. Easley WE WILL NEED AT PRACTICE (Every damn day) 14. Banton 15. Walker

Now Ed just has to hope all the teams he plays against this year has a middle aged guy to guard him so he can use that move!?
    1 point
  36. If you had to guess and rank the guards from quickest/fastest to not as quick/fast as the other guys, how do you think you'd score it? My guess starts with Mack, then goes to Burke. Next is probably Cheatham and then Jervay and finally Curtis. If you count Stevenson as a guard, he's probably next, and then Kavas. And Kavas ain't slow. Watch his film. He has pretty good straight-line speed. I don't know about his lateral quicks and change of direction, but he ain't slow. Whereas Cross is like a souped up Jeriah Horne, I'd say Matty Kavas is like a souped up Jack McVeigh.

  37. I don't see anyone redshirting who doesn't have to redshirt per transfer rules. Arop either earns a spot in the playing rotation or he comes in for garbage minutes in blowout games. I don't think they'll have him on a 5-year plan.

  38. Agreed, I always thought the Big 10 was a joke for years (football wise) and I’m sick to death of being treated like a stepchild. AND the BTN couldn’t be any farther up Ohio St’s a**, enuff already. Time for the Big Red to implement a scorched earth policy...
