  2. I just took the dog for a walk and started calculating the exact same things while waiting for Marcel to poop. Marcel is my dog. He knows how to pronounce Ouedraogo, but at the end of the walk, he didn't give a shit.

  3. It's basically how they put it together and we're in the same boat but we don't have a roster full of NBA players. Thus, I'd say we have the talent to make (and even win a tourney game next year) and we also have the volatility to be sub-.500 if we can't figure out how to put all the pieces together.

  4. Xavier Johnson compares pretty well to Curtis and Dachon Burke is probably a higher level profile transfer than Walker. Matt A hasn't necessarily pulled guys that are higher rated than what Miles did....the truly impressive part is the speed at which it occurred. If you surmise that the longer you are at a school and able to start relationships with kids when they're 15,16, the better you get you can come to the conclusion that Hoiberg's staff's floor in recruiting is around the same level as Miles' ceiling.

  8. 1 – Cam Mack 6-2 175 30 min. 13 pts. 3 rebs. 7 assists 2 – Jervay Green 6-3 210 34 min. 16 pts. 4 rebs. 4 assists 3 – Haanif Cheatham 6-6 195 26 min. 8 pts. 5 rebs. 2 assist 4 – Shamiel Stevenson 6-6 245 26 min. 10 pts. 7 rebs. 1 assist 5 – Yvan Ouedroago 6-9 260 18 min. 3 pts. 6 rebs. G – Dachon Burke 6-4 185 26 min. 11 pts. 4 rebs. 1 assist F – Matej Kavas 6-8 200 22 min. 8 pts. 3 rebs. F – Kevin Cross 6-8 240 10 min. 3 pts. 2 rebs. G – Thorir Thorbjarnarson 6-6 210 8 min. 2 pts. 2 rebs. 1 assist Rest of team: Garbage time/spot minutes Minutes distribution - 2 and 3 (and often times 4 in a lot of his half-court offense stuff) are essentially the same position and interchangeable. So I guess this is kind of a breakdown of who the players will be guarding. 1 – Mack 30. Green 10. 2 – Green 24 . Burke 16. 3 – Cheatham 26. Burke 10. Thor 4. 4 – Stevenson 14. Kavas 22. Thor 4. 5 – Yvan 18. Stevenson 12. Cross 10. This is assuming Roby leaves and Stevenson gets a waiver. I'm sure I’ll change my mind on this a bunch before the season starts. I’m extremely high on Jervay. Maybe more so than other people are. He reminds me of Donovan Mitchell in a lot of ways. I think we’ll be in a lot of close games this year and he’ll make it hard to keep him off the floor. I think he’ll be the guy with the ball in his hands when we need someone to make a play. He averaged 35 mpg last year and WNCC played at a very fast pace. I know it’s a whole different level of basketball (and he’ll have to play defense), but I trust he’ll be well conditioned and ready to go. Might be in the minority here, but I actually like Thor and think he can contribute a little. His 10 rebound game against Wisconsin was impressive. The guy is pure hustle and he has a great feel for the game. It’s been reported that the staff likes him at the 4 in their system. That said, it wouldn’t shock me if Cheatham, Stevenson and Kavas took up his minutes. We probably won’t see a 9 man rotation on a regular basis. Hoiberg liked to play 7-8 at Iowa State and wasn’t afraid to play his best players a ton of minutes. I don’t have Burke starting, but have him playing starters minutes and think he’ll be one of our top 4 scorers. It’d be nice to have a slashing/attacking guard off the bench, similar to how NBA teams do it with their second units. I think he’ll be on the floor at the end of games. He's not listed at the “1” here, but I’m sure we’ll see him initiate the offense at times. I have no idea if Cross will be ready to make an immediate impact (I like his potential down the road). I considered dropping him down to spot minutes and increasing Yvan and Shamiel’s playing time. Depending on score and situation, I think Stevenson or Kavas will be on the floor at the 5 at the end of games. With Mack, Green, Burke and Cheatham 1-4. Sorry for the long post, I need more hobbies. This is all just a shot in the dark, but it's kinda fun to me

  12. Speaking of... The official flex post was tweeted out yesterday and I have to say... KEVIN!! was probably using the flex emoji in all his tweets, because he knows he needs to get his ass into S&C as soon as he steps on campus. Unlike Carl Drogo, there are approximately ZERO BOULDERS in this picture...

  15. Maybe because Miles, after 6 years, would bring in players like Thor and Amir Harris this time of year, while Hoiberg and Abdelmassih, with 1 month to work, have brought in: A guy who was a 4 star on ESPN and previously committed to Xavier and Cincinnati A guy who was just a backup PF to Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield on a team that was a Top 10 team all last year A 17 year old French kid whom NBA insiders are tweeting about

  16. I think what the staff has done so far is nothing short of astonishing, taking into consideration the timeframes involved. I don't see a Sergej Vucetic among the players Hoiberg has brought in. They didn't get everyone they wanted, but they got an awful lot. And they got most of the pieces they would want to have to build a roster. I wouldn't say any of these kids are reaches and I've evaluated them the same way I would have evaluated them if Miles was recruiting them. I think Rivals rankings are interesting and a good general guide, but I've always preferred watching whatever video I can to draw my own conclusions. And I've never been shy about saying what I think about players and straying from the Rivals ranking from time to time. (Recent example would be Mac McClung whom I was astonished wasn't ranked and said so before he ever played a game in college -- and then he averages 13.1 ppg as a true freshman at G'town last year.) Like I said, I don't see these guys as being reaches, the players Hoiberg has brought in. And I wouldn't have criticized Miles or questioned him if he'd gotten any of these same commits, except for the one I questioned Hoiberg on, which is the big kid from Tennessee who has to sit out a year. But I'm going to assume he knows what he wants and has a reason for wanting that particular guy. The proof is obviously in the eating of the pudding. But as of this moment in time, I can't see giving this staff a grade of less than an A.

  17. I'm still at an incomplete. If by any chance Roby comes back then I see the roster as an A+. Still worried about the interior. Maybe they will be great and maybe not - they are awfully young. You don't get your final grade in a class until it is over, so I'm waiting to see the end product on the court. I'm am thrilled to death with what Hoiberg has gotten done at this point. I'm too easily annoyed so I'm annoyed by some people gushing on the last couple of signings who I know would have been, "Why is Miles bringing in these three-star players. We need to upgrade the talent." Regardless, things are looking up for Nebraska Basketball.

  25. This poll was for Fred’s first class....Roster Building 101. Definitely earned an A+ all things considered. Next semester he will have a heavier course load. Chemistry, Psychology and whatever correlates to learning basketball plays.... I will go out on a limb and say Norm will have an end of the season poll circa April 2020. I hope we are still doling out A’s on that one!

  28. I honestly don't see which of these players people would have been critical of if Miles had recruited them instead. Even if you cherry-pick the bottom three or four. What did Dube Okeke have that Derrick Walker doesn't have? Except immediate eligibility? What did Jeriah Horne have that Kevin Cross doesn't? What did Jordy Tschimanga have that Yvan Ouedraogo doesn't have? I mean, I don't see that anyone would have criticized Miles for any of these players, and they would have been pretty damned elated with Miles for landing quite a few of them. And, in terms of volume, we got 3 recruiting cycles worth of players we would have been thrilled to land in the past ... in 1 month.

  29. No doubt that Tim brought in some very good players. I actually think his biggest strength was getting better players to come here than previous coaches did. But yes like you said, in just 1 month Hoiberg has brought in players as good or better than Miles was doing with 5-6 years of recruiting and establishing relationships. That was my point. We just signed Ohio's Mr. Basketball on the last day of the high school signing period with like three weeks of communication with the kid. It's incredible.

To be fair, one of those three stars was a four star on ESPN and had been committed to two programs better than ours. Walker... I don’t know enough about him, but he’s a bit of a head scratcher.

  38. I have Samari Curtis in the rotation and Thor outside of it. Yvan starting but not playing heavy minutes. Akol redshirting with Walker and Banton. You dont really need Akol to play especially if Shamiel is eligible. Give him a year to work on his 3 pt shooting and get up to 215-220 range.

  40. Looking at 247 this afternoon to look at our recruiting class and they have an interesting feature listing all of our recruits (going back to 2003 - 72 players) and ranking them from top to bottom: https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Sport/Basketball/AllTimeRecruits/ Couple of things jump out at me. Yvan Ouedraogo is the #2 all time (in the past 16 years) recruit for us behind Glynn Watson This year's class has 5 guys in the top 30 of Nebraska recruits (in the past 16 years), 5 transfers and Kevin Cross is unranked. At the moment (and I mean at the moment literally) Donovan Williams is #5 and DeAndre Davis is #12 Interesting. Imagine what this staff could do with more than 6 weeks to recruit...

  46. I’d be shocked if Curtis doesn’t see the court regularly next season. He’s a pure scorer and already knows how to draw fouls like a veteran. He doesn’t remind me of anyone we’ve had before. I think he’s one of the best guard prospects we’ve ever nabbed out of the high school ranks.
