  3. OK, listen guys, the Rawlinsons sat in front of me at Devaney. Unlike me, she put her real name to her opinions and had them published in the Journal Star. I don't agree with her, but I do not question her integrity or her support for the program. Her family runs a prominent local business, OK? They support the athletic department just fine. You can disagree with her without invective. I think she's blowing things out of proportion, but I can respect that fact that she sees this differently and not get my nose all bent out of joint about it (which I would be far more likely to do with someone who was posting anonymously.)

  8. Hey Jennifer........ Put yourself in this situation...... -You get set up on a blind date with a guy out of your league. (Fred Hoiberg). He has money, looks, ties to the best DEFENSIVE aging DOC around, and a bright future ahead: Would you rather: A- Get led on for a year, thinking you're going to have a future with him. Until you realize that you were just being used as a piece of meat (scout team), taking a precious year (or 2) away from you finding the right fit. Or B- Get told before the end of dinner, "Hey, this isn't going to work. I'm sorry. You seem like a great person, but our time together is done. I hope you can find a situation that works for you. Best of luck."

  10. Thoughts...A ridiculous stance. So Nebraska basketball is some sort of Samurai style program. Its about honor before all and falling on your sword? A new guy gets his people. Those are rules. Its his head on the chopping block. He gets to pick what sword to fall on. Jeez people there's a freaking portal for a reason. And its not because Nebraska is the only school this happens at. You want that nostalgialistic view. Go watch Hoosiers.

  11. Huskers land 6'6" G/F transfer from Pitt/Nevada Nebraska gets the verbal commit from the 230+ lb Stevenson who has made two moves already in his college career due to coaching changes. “We are excited to add Shamiel to our program. He brings a lot of versatility and physicality to our roster. With his size, strength and wingspan, Shamiel fits in perfectly in our system with his ability to play several positions. He also possesses the toughness and maturity needed to play in the Big Ten.” - Coach Hoiberg The former 3 star and prep school teammate of DeAndre Ayton chose Pittsburgh and coach Kevin Stallings out of high school. Stevenson was a major contributor his freshman year, starting 13 games and averaging 8.7 ppg while shooting 37.5% from 3 and getting to the line at an impressive rate. (His FTR metric was comparable to James Palmer) Stevenson stuck on with new coach Jeff Capel but was relegated to the end of the bench, seeing action in only 4 games. Shamiel decided to transfer mid-season and chose Nevada. With former Wolfpack head coach Eric Mussleman leaving for Arkansas Stevenson decided to move on as well. Currently he's eligible after the fall semester but will most likely pursue a waiver to become immediately eligible. After this season he should have two years remaining. With his size Stephenson looks to slot in defensively as a PF or Center in Fred Hoiberg's 'positionless' basketball team. View full article

  12. It's mind blowing that, in terms of new faces on the court next season, we will have 4 guys that are proven players at the D1 level (Stevenson, Burke, Kavas, Cheatham) and two Top 5 JUCO players.

  16. His pictures at Hendricks don't make it look like he's fat. That was kind of the worry. That he was fat and out of shape and that's why Capel had a problem with him. That's not what his pictures look like. This is a guy who can put it on the floor, who can post up, and who can shoot the 3 about as good as any Husker last year was able to shoot the 3. I'm really curious to know how much remaining eligibility he has. But this might be the best pickup so far.

I understand where you're coming from but aren't you doing guys a bigger disservices by keeping them on the team but probably never getting the chance to play because their skill set doesn't match what you are looking for?

Who will be on campus when summer workouts start? Rn itll just be Dachon and Thor 1v1 ?

  19. It'll be telling when we see where these guys end up transferring to. I'd imagine Amir, Brady, Nana and Karrington will not be playing for power 5 conference teams in the future. Shoot, some of them wouldn't have been on a power 5 team out of high school if we didn't offer. The first time the coaching staff met with the media, Abdelmassih slipped up and said something along the lines of, "The cupboard is pretty much bare right now." During those individual workouts they held, imagine what these coaches thought when they saw Amir's shot and Nana's ball handling abilities. These aren't high major guards/wings.

I'm not sure why it matters, both guys are very average at best and neither would play . Thor committed 2 weeks before his freshman semester started. Harris committed in May before his freshman year at Nebraska. It's not like either guy was a long-term part of the vision plan by Miles. He scrambled to sign both guys just before the season began.

The decision wasn't Amir vs. Thor. It was Davis vs. Thor. Thor compliments what they're trying to put together more than Davis does, so they kept him.

    Lauren Ware

Seems to be way to much hype about how Ware might play among the teams. Obviously hope she picks us to start with. Would be a great opportunity for her. And us too. Like said, if we're lucky enough to have her choose NU....It would be up to both coaches and Ware to work out her overall schedule (practice/ games/travel...etc etc)...for best of all concerned."

  23. Rivals says A+ for Hoiberg: https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/evans-seven-grading-the-work-of-recent-coaching-hires NEBRASKA'S FRED HOIBERG: A+ Fred Hoiberg surprised many by taking the Nebraska job rather than some of the more highly touted positions available. Ever since then, however, he has continually won a number of recruiting battles. Just as he did at Iowa State, he has been relying heavily upon the transfer realm. FGCU wing Haanif Cheatham and Seattle big Matej Kavas each pledged to the program and both will be immediately eligible to compete in the fall, as will junior college standouts Jervay Green and Cameron Mack. Dalano Banton, a former Rivals150 prospect, should pay dividends down the road once his college clock begins in the fall of 2020. Further work must be done, and the Huskers might need at least three more players this spring, but the Fred Hoiberg era could not have started any better.

  25. When all else fails, you can't go wrong with a 6'4" to 6'6" wing. Eff it. Let's just build a roster of athletic 6'5" clones (no.. not.. I mean.. shutup ISU fan). Send them out in waves, hockey-line style. Swarm the other team. Full-court press and aim to score 100 every game. You ever watch tennis?

  26. Although I will add, he hashtagged #notcommited to both his TCU and OSU tweets... but he used #whatif on his NU tweet. If there's anything you can rely on consistently, for predicting the future (or any other answers you need based on sound logic), it's an 18-yr-old's social media page.

    Lauren Ware

IMO, if we didn't have such a tremendously high caliber VB program, I could see this working out better. I think in order to compete for playing time and be a solid contributor on the VB court at NU, a player has to be locked in on that goal year round (otherwise they will get beat out by other players who are locked in year round). And our season runs longer than most schools because of the amount of success we have (and that's a very good thing for everyone). But that means it conflicts even more with the WBB season. It's that overlap between VB tourney time and WBB practice that is concerning to me, plus the demands on the body of the athlete and how it effects their educational progress. It pays to have a few weeks off (or even a month) to recover. In this situation, though, she will be entering the grind of the basketball season and BIG10 conference play. I don't want anyone to think I'm picking on Ware - I think this would be difficult for anyone and that is why we don't see it happen very often. If VB and WBB didn't occur in consecutive seasons, then I could see this working better. For example, I'm really hoping the Meyer gal plays fantastic VB in the fall and then throws discus far in the spring. I do like the idea of a basketball player that is also a DI VB recruit. That tells me that even though she is tall, she can probably jump.

  29. I hate to say this -- I really do hate to say this -- but ... Now that we have Stevenson, and with the other players Hoiberg has brought in, the absolute perfect finishing piece to this roster would be (drumroll) ... Isaiah Roby.

  30. The leading rebounder in the big ten this year was 6'6". We need some post depth, but I couldn't care less how tall the player is. Stevenson has the length, strength and athleticism to be a very good rebounder.

  31. When I see this roster I think the ‘96 Kentucky Wildcats of Ron Mercer, Walter McCarty, Antoine Walker etc. 5 “position less” players who can all handle the ball & shoot it from deep. Excited to see who the final few pieces might be, heady times my friends...

  34. This is a big get. This is a kid who can play some ball and really fills an area of need. He's that guys who's strong enough to mix it up inside (like an Ed Morrow, but unlike Ed) and he can shoot the perimeter J. Plus he puts it on the floor and can drive it. Can score in a variety of ways. This is a really big pickup for us.

  40. I hope the Jennifer gal is not here on Huskerhoops central because what I am about to say is not very nice. That letter is idiotic at best. We can still do things the right way and yet some peoples feelings might get hurt. We dont know exactly what was said to Amir/Karrington and so on, but lets just relax a bit. If those guys werent a part of the plan, Fred has every right to ask them to move on. While he can pull the persons scholarship from our count, if Amir or Karrington wanted to stay at Nebraska for an education they would still have a full ride(or at least how I have read it). He was up front and honest with them and now they have an option to go find a place that can utilize their skills. If we want to win(which we do) we might need to grow up a bit.

  42. It's all in there: Amir has 3 seasons left whereas Thor has 2 at most; Amir can't shoot a lick, and while Thor ain't great, at least his FTs are decent whereas Amir's are horrid; Amir is a PG but dished about half the assists of Thor per minute played, indicating Thor had more of an impact when he was in the game; Amir isn't durable and missed a lot of games, especially at the end when there was an opportunity for significant playing time. Thor isn't a great fit for your system if you're Hoiberg, but you're not investing a lot of time in him, either. Amir isn't a fit at all. Why on EARTH would you keep him? "He's long, he's athletic, blah blah blah." FFS, so are a lot of other guys who have the added advantage of being able to shoot more than 30% from the FT line.

I don't care what the stats show, Amir was the much better player. His sickness really hurt his chance to get more playing time and then for whatever reason Miles barely played him. But when he did see the court it showed by making plays on the defensive end and some timely buckets. Thor just hustled.
