Wonder? No. When I taught at UWashington, we occasionally would have an athlete in a similar situation and there's all sorts of reasonable accommodations that can be made depending on the temperament of the instructor/professor pr department policies. Upperclassmen courses are frequently not as attendance-obsessed as underclassmen ones, especially if you know you're likely to be involved in a lot of travelling, which most athletes do anyway. You can trade papers for attendance, for example (my tool of choice) or trade an incomplete for a summer makeup (which would wind up being papers for attendance anyway). Athletes aren't the only undergraduates who can travel a ton during the course of a year. I debated for Nebraska and we were gone far more than any athlete since our competitive season lasted the entire academic year. We just had dispensation from the Dean's Office to have a crapload of excused absences, but we always had to get the coursework done properly.

  4. I really want Mack here, but this is already great news as Cheatham will start. Burke, Green, and Cheatham are all very good ball handlers and at least two of them are serviceable point guards. So right now: Green Burke Cheatham Amir Heiman ^^^^ that’s actually a really formidable lineup. It looks like we’ll get a PF and C though, which could very well mean an entirely new starting lineup. The more I think about Fred’s system, the more I think Amir can be a valuable part. Having a 6’6” elite defender/athlete who can guard 1-4 and play PG is a hell of a luxury. If we can can get a GT C Heiman will likely be a great compliment off the bench. In general, we could field a sneaky deep roster next season if a few of our current guys stay/get healthy enough to contribute.

All the Dominos are starting to fall, dare I say it but Hoiberg’s private workouts with Roby might sway the young man’s opinion about one more year of tutelage from the “Master.”

  9. Not sure why we would want to run off the only guy on our roster who is taller than 6'6, especially since he is an in-state player, 6'11, with some skills (yeah, I know, not great skills). I am guessing that Brady doesn't need to be a prime-time player; he might be perfectly happy for his next 3 years filling a role on this team. Or maybe, when he adds 20 or 30 lbs, he might actually contribute more than that.

  11. Sure. Transferring is part of the game now. There's enough transfers in the portal to field 50-some teams. I would argue that Nebraska gained more through the transfers than they've lost. Outside of Andrew White and Michael Jacobson, can you think of any impact players that have left?

  14. I don’t see Cheatham as a 4, but who knows? His stats indicate a willing enough rebounder. I can see Amir there for sure though (see Iowa), and he’d be hell for an opposing big to keep up with in transition and penetration.

  22. Maybe this has been asked and answered, if so, I apologize. But I am wondering if there has been any word on the status of some of the peripheral staff. Do we know if Greg Eaton (Director of Operations), Matt Holt (Video Coordinator) and Tim Wilson (Strength Coach) were retained? I believe the team, such as it is, is working out and so forth. I would think those positions would be put into place asap.

That she's even here is huge. UNL would be a great school for her. Fairly close geographically...and maybe the biggest reason...she might be able to play both sports. Hell no, I ain't to proud......Lauren...this is the school for you !! The team and the fans... know who you are, waiting with baited breath.. and you'll achieve great success here....easily.

  26. This Cheatham commit has the possibility to be very interesting. Is he a grad transfer that just wants a place to get up a ton of shots and have big numbers? It’s possible I guess. But the other possibility, and he kind of hinted at it in the article, is if Hoiberg has a few other guys that he feels VERY good about coming here. Most grad transfers want to win, and maybe Cheatham was told player X, Y, and Z are most likely coming here

  27. Ha! You didn't read all the way through Hoiberg's contract, then. Paragraph 7.C.2(a)(iii) specifically says, "... provided that all decisions on player personal matters, including recruitment and retention, have received prior WRITTEN approval of Norman Peterson of the Husker Hoops Central Board." So ...

He also said Roby is taking advantage of the rule change that allows college players to hire an agent in an advisory role in the work-through process while retaining their college eligibility.

  36. I dont know much about him tbh. I went with JTT more bc it sounds like they want 2-3 guys sitting out every year and he fits that criteria. I put Jayce Johnson fairly high (even though hes averages 7pts, 7reb, and 20min) bc im really hoping we can convince Roby to stay by selling the idea of being able to develop his NBA skill set as a 4. Johnson and a year older Heiman could hopefully cover a majority of the minutes at the 5.

  37. I agree to a point - if the player is doing everything he's asked to do on and off the court, I would prefer we aren't running them off. However, coaches also need to be honest with players about how they do or don't fit into the system, especially after a coaching change. So maybe it's less about running players off and more about just being honest with them. If they want to play, it's best to move on. I would imagine this is more of what's going on, because Coach Hoiberg has a specific system/emphasis, which is quite a bit different than what Coach Miles had, so naturally, some skill sets aren't going to translate well. Now as I recall, Coach Miles, maybe after his 1st year, did exactly that with Benny Parker, telling him he didn't see Benny earning any playing time. And Benny basically said, I'm going to prove you wrong and earn playing time, which he did. So these things don't always work out as expected during coaching changes.

  38. I could see Amir having a role IF the other 4 guys are three point threats. Amir flashed some nice drives his first year. if you think back to Fred’s teams with Royce White, they used Royce as a point forward and spread the floor. Royce would then just dominate the guy covering him one an one. Obviously Harris is not Royce White but if we can spread the floor with shooters he could be a threat taking a guy to the basket one on one.
