  1. Miles had no problem doing it 3 times.

  2. I've been searching for a thread to add my thoughts... I am truly disappointed in how this has ended for Coach Miles. I wanted him to succeed in the worst way and it pains me to no end that sometimes, the good guy doesn't win. Coach Miles has done more for Nebraska Basketball than any coach in the past 20 years and I sincerely like the man. I've had a chance to meet him and he will always be a part of simultaneously the best and worst night of my life: Back in 2014, I was invited to a private dinner at a country club in Omaha where the guest speaker was Tim Miles. He was phenomenal that night, telling stories and genuinely having fun. At the end of the night, I had a chance to ask him about his version of the motion offense. 15 minutes later, he had diagrammed multiple options for me on the table using empty beer bottles. It was fantastic and something I will never forget as long as I live. It turns out though, that 15 minutes was something I couldn't really afford to give. Returning home that night and pulling into my garage, I was approached on either side by 2 men pointing guns at me. Without going into a lot of detail, they forced themselves into my apartment and ransacked the place while I lay face down on the floor. Like I said, the best night ever talking ball with Coach Miles turned into the worst night of my life, wondering if I was going to be shot in the back of the head. I wanted to share that story because it is an incredible memory, both good and bad. Thank you Coach, for all you have done for Nebraska basketball and for providing fans like me more access to the program than I ever dreamed possible. While it didn't work out in Lincoln, I look forward to cheering for you at your next stop.

  3. I couldn't agree more that he made the smart move. Thomas Allen is a good kid and I can say this confidently after a personal interaction I had with him after the Butler game. As a lot of you probably know, about 30 minutes after home games a lot of the players come out of the locker room to see friends, family or to sign autographs for kids. We were tipped off to this nugget last year after the UTSA game. My 9 year old couldn't have been more thrilled to meet his favorite players. My son and I drive back for a game once a year but made a second trip this year over his spring break to see the NIT game. One player he had never gotten a chance to meet during the three games we had seen in person, including Butler, was his favorite player - Isaiah Roby. We were meandering around the players tunnel a good 45 minutes after the Butler game and the security guard told everyone that was left that the Arena was closing in 10 minutes. The security guard and I got in a conversation and I was explaining to him that we were from Colorado and my son was hoping to meet Isaiah. We were told that there were other NIT media obligations for certain members of the team and that most players wouldn't be coming out. Well, Thomas Allen was standing pretty close by and happened to hear part of the conversation as he didn't have the same media obligations since he didn't play. He asked me who my son was trying to meet and I told him Isaiah. He whipped out his phone and called Isaiah on the spot and asked him where he was because "there was a kid from Denver that came all the way out to the game to meet him". Isaiah was getting treatment on his legs but told Thomas that we was more than happy for him to bring me and my son back so that he could meet him. Thomas escorted us back to the locker room and my son got the opportunity to meet his favorite player: Whatever Thomas Allen decides to do is ok in my book. Coaches can leave on their own or get fired and the kids are stuck either having to play for a new coach they don't know or potentially lose a year by transferring. I hope to see Thomas back in a Husker uniform but wish him nothing but the best wherever he goes. I'll be a fan of his wherever he is playing. I should also add that Roby couldn't have been any more generous with his time. He talked to my son for a few minutes, signed his poster, and certainly didn't have to take time out of his treatment. One thing I can say about every player we've met and quite honestly, we've met just about everyone over our past 3 trips is that all of those young men on the team were very respectful and gracious with the time they gave the hoard of kids after each game. I think this is a testament to Coach Miles and the character of the players he brought into Lincoln.

    What is this about?

What a joke man. Move on bro. Arop isn’t even playing in his current league. Just face it that Miles did the right thing.

I have a differing viewpoint on this. He's choosing to spend time with and support his son and his team. I don't see the difference whether his son is the best player on the team or the last one on the bench. Having two kids myself, I'm learning first hand that the older they get, the less they need you as a parent. I'm not saying Jack needs Fred right now but the opportunity as a parent to support your kids in person and in the here and now becomes much less frequent the older they get. I have no problems at all with Fred trying to take advantage of these fleeting opportunities!

Hopefully the ongoing discussions are going something like: Moos: Still want the job? Hoiberg: You bet. Moos: Great, let's do this again tomorrow.

  9. Wow, amazing story. What a night! Regarding the Miles country club dinner, I may have attended that with you. Tim was great in that setting, and treated the fans awesome with great insight, inside info, and shared his basketball knowledge (contrary to the loud minority, he knows his X's and O's). I believe donors tried to have these dinners with Doc and Collier - just can't imagine that it would have been any fun... The good news for the future is that Miles has left everything in good shape. It's not like new coach is taking over 5 or 10 win team. 22 wins and 19 wins, just one step short of tournament. The new coach doesn't need to "turn around" anything, just needs to take the next step.

    What is this about?

He's bitching because he didn't think Miles treated him well. Has to do with the Arop deal, I would assume. It's in another thread around here, somewhere.

This is the most time he's had to spend with family in quite some time. He's been able to spend time with his wife and kids, do things like go to the Carribean, and get the family together to go support his son. Making the most of actually having free time.

  13. Isaiah Roby, in particular, is really a salt-of-the-earth type of kid. He was extremely generous with his time and attention when my 11 year old and I attended the Nebrasketball Buddies at the Hendricks Training Center back in mid-Dec. The Nebrasketballers had just came back from beating Okie St. in Sioux Falls a couple days earlier, and the players could have bolted out the back-door if they so chose after the hubbub of the event that Tuesday night. Glynn and Zay were especially kind and helpful. They signed the memorabilia and took pictures like 2 pros -- I have no doubt in my mind that those 2 dudes are going places. They conducted themselves very, very well that night when they could have snuck out & no one would've been the wiser. And, of course, I had to have a lengthy conversation with Coach Miles and Greg Eaton, who conducts the Summer Camps. Both were more than gracious with their time, as was Coach Gates, who said he LOVED Lincoln--way better than Gainesville, FL (his words!). All in all, I have such fond memories of a couple hours of Nebrasketball Buddies. Credit to Miles & Co. -- they don't cut corners, even on a "fun night" with fans & young ballers !!!!

The continued pronouncements on the ongoing negotiations are beginning to smack of the old SNL (when it was actually a funny program) weekly updates on Generalissimo Francisco Franco's condition.

  15. It is easy to say family is important to us, until that belief is tested. As a fan base we have been tested...twice, and have failed both times. Family seems to be important to us only as a means to virtual signal. If FH is indeed our next coach then it will happen in due time. Whether it happens next week or the week after doesn't matter in the larger picture. Everybody needs to R.E.L.A.X

Ah HHC... It seems like just yesterday we had our pitchforks and torches ready about the Bill Moos trip for his sons spring game at Cal. Not calling anyone out or stirring things up, it's just interesting to see how the interests of one's son are perceived, even thought the situations are both very similar and very different!

  18. Matt Abdelmassih being Fred’s first call seemed to be the only secret that was worst kept than Fred being the guy. Abdelmassih is one hell of a recruiter. Seems like he was bringing in quite a few transfers at ISU and at St John’s, looks like he’s got some JUCO ties as well which could help with convincing Jervay to stay (maybe). Interested as to who else might soon be N when it comes to assistants.

  20. Timing is huge, I think that is why we're waiting. It serves two purposes, one Hoiberg can enjoy a weekend with his family without being "New Nebraska HC", but also we get more bang for our buck with an announcement right before Final 4 festivities get kicked off. While Nate Oats to Bama will be second page news, Hoiberg to Nebraska would be one of the big storylines at the Final 4. But you're right in the sense that you don't want to wait until AFTER the final 4. I think Moos gets it right though, his timing has been thoughtful and well executed these last few weeks. He's had his ducks in a row.

Realistically, Michigan State's performance in the tournament should have no bearing to when a coaching announcement is made. Regardless, it would be a shame if Moos doesn't lock down a coach before the Final Four, because that would be a missed opportunity with all of those coaches networking events and meetups.

    What is this about?

This is what it is. Chubick used to post here way back in the day and up until the Aguek signing went sideways he regularly appeared on 93.7 so it's almost definitely about Aguek. The sad part about all of this is how unnecessary it was from either side because we always had scholarships.

  31. Edwards initiated the contact by kicking out. You do have to give the guy room to land, but if you watch again the defender did a nice job of situating his body on the fly by so Edwards would most certainly have been able to land. It should have been a no call at the very least and the only call that should be considered is an offensive foul for kicking the leg out in a neutral space. The defender is every bit as entitled to that space as Edwards is.

  32. I still have to pinch myself, thinking its not real, but I just can't see how it's not at this point. The rumors/stories from all over. And it's media, not John Doe on Twitter or Rivals.com. I think it's also telling that there really isn't any sort of rumors out there about other candidates. You have one Arkansas writer mentioning Anderson, some light twitter scuttlebutt about the Bradley guy and Sip's blurb on Lue. That's it. And Sip just a few days ago was basically saying that Hoiberg was a done deal too. If there was truly a search going on, you would be hearing rumors about guys. And I think this has been a done deal for a while.

Woj's sources come from the NBA, so I'm guessing that info is coming from the Hoiberg camp. The way it's worded makes me think it won't be announced or "finalized" until next week. Don't think Fred would want to overshadow his son's games this weekend. IMO opinion it's best for all parties (NU / Hoiberg family) to wait until next week anyway. Make it a story leading into Final Four weekend as opposed to getting drowned out by the games this weekend also eliminates the distraction for the younger Hoiberg while his games are being played.
