  1. RE: Moos Because a better coach deserves to be supported by the athletic director? If Miles isn't good enough, he isn't good enough, right? He makes the NCAA tourney this year and we can hire a better coach you do that, right? What exactly is the harm putting forth effort as the AD for the last two years? That you are sitting here telling me that once we get a different coach the AD will do his f$*# job is exactly the reason a big part of the board is up in arms here. TBH I hope we don't see more of him because at least then we know he just doesn't like attending basketball games and he most likely wasn't undermining a program that has been 1-2 wins away from the tournament for the last two years.

  3. If the above occurs and Moos lands Hoiberg, who just turned down UCLA, his PR is going to be the opposite of taking a hit.

  4. Nightmare scenario: Tim goes on a tear and wins the NIT. Fred gets antsy waiting and accepts the Arizona job. Tim gives Bill the middle finger and finds another job. Bill can't find anyone, settles with Ernie Kent.

  5. Let's not try and make the way Moos handled the situation any less terrible. The way Moos handled it was terrible no matter what Miles said.

  6. He's done everything we want our basketball coach to do, at a school very simuliar to Nebraska in terms of geography, challenges and fan support.

  7. Two things. 1. Moos’ travel to the Big 10 was abnormal. He went to like 3-4 games this year that we knew of. Why not just go right out west and not even attend the Rutgers game? Why go for a single day? The whole thing is abnormal for Moos whether you want to admit that or not. 2. I think it is completely unfair to talk about how Miles is “a big boy” and “he knows what he signed up for” in reference to him being in limbo. Then see some talk about how Moos should spend time with family. Moos knew what he signed up for as well. I work evenings. I don’t get to see my daughter as much as I like. But that doesn’t mean I don’t cherish family. Much like a Doctor, Policeman, Firefighter, etc, that’s what the job entails. So don’t bash fans for wanting Moos to do his job. He’s a big boy and that’s what he signed up for.

  8. I have no problem with him spending time with his family. I've said that a few times, even saying that I appreciate that he skipped the Bethune Cookman game for his daughter's wedding. That's a big deal that's way more important than a make-up football game, and I'm glad he was there instead of here. HOWEVER -- the optics are pretty bad, from just about any objective source, for him to fly in for a single Big Ten tournament game and then head back out while using the Cal spring game on Saturday as the reason. It sucks to make the decision to spend a couple more hours with family vs doing a job, and I don't think anyone would fault him for wanting to be there for his son -- but he absolutely could have done both and CHOSE not to, and created unnecessary speculation and discussion. As an athletic director for a high-major program, this is just part of the job, not unlike the on-call doctor who would probably prefer to spend Christmas with his family but has to go deliver a baby instead of have family dinner. By doing it the way he did -- and then following it up with that non-statement nonsense -- he created a storyline where there didn't need to be one. That's utter incompetence. Maybe locally we don't put much stock into the national talking heads, and that's each person's individual prerogative, but that does have an effect on the university's national perception -- again, something it is his literal job to curate, and something he has once again done exceptionally poorly when it comes to basketball.

  9. I'll tell you this: Tim is NOT going to be unemployed next season unless he chooses to be.

  10. If Miles was going to be retained, Moos would have said so in his announcement 45 minutes after our B1G tourney loss to Wisconsin.

  11. If we have Hoiberg as a "done deal" why are we making an announcement on Friday and why didn't we fire Miles Saturday night/Sunday? As it's been pointed out what if Miles makes a run in the NIT and while we're waiting Hoiberg changes his mind?

  12. If in another week Moos has Frost AND Hoiberg overseeing the two major athletic programs, he could drink a 30-pack of beer and pass out in a Haymarket alley every night for all I care.

  15. It you have hoiberg locked up than who cares let the NIT play out. If you don't who cares, your coach is coaching in the tourney so you have to wait. Zero reason to let miles go right now.

  16. A long time ago, I used to watch every game and soak up every word the talking heads said, every point, all the analysis, all their expert opinions, all their insider insights, all their unnamed sources. Then the play, the game, the season, the career would happen and even if that talking head knew all the right people, all the right tactical and strategic details, even if they were the best informed SOB (scholar of basketball) they had (charitably) a 25% chance of being right. So I now understand that "knowing" and "actually happening" are not the same thing. If you see someone on this board with 10,000 posts (or HHC in their screen name) understand that we have listened to 20,000 posts from guys who "know a guy" or "saw the next coach at Valentino's" or "have the inside dirt" Charitably, <5% of those have been right, so it's not personal. If you KNOW and want to share, great, when your prediction comes to pass, you will be vindicated but if you want to stifle disagreement by citing your unnamed sources then the bulletin board world isn't your best platform and you should start a blog.

  17. Let’s not forget Tim is a very good coach and was before he got here. He built up Colorado State, North Dakota State, etc. He definitely has what it takes and wherever he goes I’ll be rooting for the guy. (As long as it’s not against Nebraska)

  19. Good news - we are in! Splurged on $20 club level seats ?. I will say it wasn't a seamless process. I had to go through the order process about a dozen time as I kept getting error messages when trying to pay...system kept saying my transaction had timed out, which it hadn't based on the 15 minute countdown. So, I probably have unknowingly purchased 24 tickets so I'll have many extra for HHC friends! With my son being on spring break, we are also packing for multiple days in the hopes of a 2nd home game or a trip down to Fort Worth! GBR!

  20. This entire thread proves what I've been saying for a long time on here, that Nebraska fans are constantly looking to have their ego stroked. Overly sensitive to any perceived slights. Bill Moos wasn't at BIG Tourny for a very good reason,,,family. Is that something we believe in here at Nebraska or is just something we offer lip service? I can't believe people are actually question this. All this whining about what he said? Really? He made a statement about TM future which under these circumstances was understandable. Tim Miles is going to be let go from Nebraska. That is a fact. Bill Moos will make the hire. That is a fact. Will he do better than the past 3 AD's at hiring a coach? That is yet to be seen. We do know that is extremely difficult to get a good coach to come here. We have tried and fallen flat despite our best efforts. Call it bad luck or whatever. I'm glad that Moos isn't going to fire Miles before the end of the season like I have seen suggested elsewhere. I want to see this group finish out the season on a strong note and will be supporting them all the way.

Seven years ago, Brian Rosenthal tweeted that word was Doc Sadler had been fired. Someone on this board said "It's official!" I tried to point out it's only official when someone who's "official" says it's official. Until then, it's un-official. By definition. It became a running joke on this board that, whenever Brian Rosenthal tweeted something, that made whatever it was "official." Brian now works for the university. That joke no longer works for Rosenthal tweets. Enter Chris Basnett, who works for the LJS and who says we've contacted someone about a job opening. Well, if there's an opening, that means ...

  22. I think I'll wait to see how things play out and hear Moos' explanation of statements and timing and why he was or wasn't somewhere before I'm ready to buy a torch and pitchfork.

  23. If Southern Miss fires Doc Sadler this year, they'd be making a huge mistake. He inherited a lot bigger mess from cheater Donnie Tyndall than most people realize. They're still under scholarship limits until '20-21. Doc's program has shown improvement every season. And he's done it clean. This year, they reached 20 wins and finished 2nd in their conference and they're on their way to the CBI. Why in the actual heck would Southern Miss let Doc go?

  24. I’m all in on Fred. He is one of the few guys i considered “home runs” and a guy i would be fine replacing Miles. I just don’t understand the timing and why if he has a deal in place not just fire him now and move on ASAP. Nonetheless, i am excited to see them play Wednesday and I hope Miles coaches his tail off.

  25. After a period of mourning our disappointing season, it's fun to return to HHC to see the passion that exists for Husker hoops. Several weeks ago, I heard what I considered to be credible information that an "agreement in principle" had been reached with Dana Altman. The reason I found it at least plausible is because it was consistent with something I heard from another person who had "first hand" knowledge of an alleged meeting somewhere "outside of Lincoln." Perhaps pieces of those stories were true and Altman used this as leverage for his contract extension at Oregon. Who knows. I've learned over time that until the announcement is made and a new coach is introduced to the public, it's all merely speculation. I am not even close to being an insider. Nonetheless, part of the reason it's enjoyable to discuss these scenarios is because we have such a passion for our team. The bottom line for me is that I will root for the success of whoever happens to be the coach next year, be it Miles or someone else. My hope would be that we could lure a proven coach who has won at a power 5 school. The exception would be for a guy who comes from a distinguished coaching tree where he has learned how to create an identity for a program and is a proven recruiter. I will say that unless we have been in discussions with such a person and it's essentially a done deal, I'd almost rather keep Miles than take another chance with a mid-major guy. I didn't feel that way until we made our run in the tournament. My other hope is that "something" happens which will convince our fan base that being a legitimately competitive basketball program is important to the UNL administration. Pure speculation here, but I am wondering whether Moos' trip West included a stop somewhere, say Las Vegas or LA, to meet with representatives for a prospective coach? GBR and let's beat Butler!!

  26. That would be another major hit to Moos' PR. Making a deal BEFORE the other coach is fired is a horrible tactic. Add to that, if it should be announced next week sometime, what if Nebraska goes to the NIT championship games. Makes me think it is not Nebraska, and probably an NBA job.

  27. Sort of a depressing thread and board in general today. Much as I would like to pontificate, I will stick with my statement of last week that the AD should have made his call when he gave his momentous (non)statement then and that he should have declined the invitation to the NIT. With that said, now that we are in, let's just roll out the ball and hope we win every game we play in the tournament. It is obvious that nothing will get done regarding next year's team until the season ends and our present players and coaches deserve nothing less that our full support.

  30. WHO'S THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF TICKETING??? (@hhcdave, any chance you happen to know?)
    4 points
  31. Spitballing, but because we had an AD who actually attended games and spent time around the program? And it doesn't seem all that transparent to me to leave the staff in the dark as to what the contents of that announcement would be. Chris Heady's entire article about it is pretty much a testament to how non-transparent it was. It looks bad to attend a Wednesday night game and then leave when it would have been just as easy to go after an afternoon game Thursday (played at noon Pacific time -- he literally would have had to shift his flight a matter of a couple hours). Doing what he did gives the appearance that he was only there to fire him after we lost. If that was just message board angst it'd be one thing, but it isn't; that's the storyline his actions led to, which was reported on both locally and nationally. Look, I don't like Bill Moos for a lot of reasons. You do, and that's fine. But objectively speaking, this whole ordeal was a mess of his own making. He's paid handsomely to do the exact opposite of what he did in the last three days, which is to make Nebraska Athletics look foolish on a national level, as evidenced by several well-known pundits weighing in on it when it would have been just as easy not to.

    Fred Hoiberg

Sorry @Norm Peterson i'm commandeering your thread title so that we don't have 10 hoiberg threads.

  35. Please let Hoiberg be named coach so that everyone can shove crow in my face. Don't want to search up post in which I said "Hoiberg has no interest in Husker job per family member". The venom will be bitter but I will accept the consequence.

  36. Are you even reading the posts here, Ron? No one is saying family is not important to the university, or Cornhusker fans. Of course it is. What some people are concerned about is using "gotta go see family" as an excuse to shirk your duties as AD at the University of Nebraska. Even if Moos' intentions were pure, you have to admit, from a PR standpoint, he's bungled the last few days horribly.

  37. Miles is coaching himself into another job after he gets let go with the big ten run/whatever he does in the NIT. Which I'm happy for
    3 points
  38. I wish I could up-vote this 100 times! For those saying Moos has done nothing wrong with the basketball program, this is exactly my argument. Even after his tepid one year extension last year, Moos could have handled the entire situation differently. He told everyone that his expectations were to repeat last years success in the wins column and implied there would be consequences if Miles didn't achieve. Well no $hit Sherlock, that describes what everyone already knew. Instead of finding ways to insert drama at nearly every opportunity, he should have simply said "Tim is our coach and we are excited to see what the team achieves this year". Fully back him publicly and do everything you can to make him successful. News flash - EVERYBODY knows there are consequences if the boss deems your work sub-par, there's no need for the boss to publicly imply it. If you can't bring yourself to say something nice and supportive about YOUR team or coach, then STFU and say nothing. If what it takes to get the administration all on the same page is hiring a new coach then fine, do it. But to sit here and effectively say "after he hires his guy, the AD will do his job" is a bunch of crap. For all the people saying "Tim is a big boy", so is Moos. With great power comes great responsibility and part of that is to do everything you can to make your program (or company) successful even if you don't like some of the leaders or people in it. Hopefully someday we will see Moos (and Greene and Bounds) do their jobs properly. If firing Miles is what it takes to get them all singing Kumbaya so they can finally do their jobs, then lets get on with it.

    NIT watch

We can't. We just absolutely cannot do this. If this is Moos's plan, it isn't a plan. It's more gutless than his non-announcement announcement. You either commit to Miles and say he has your FULL support (which Moos did NOT do) OR you commit to finding a new guy. It is NOT good for the long-term health of the program to have a coach coaching for his job and wondering about his status at the end of every season. Fish or cut bait. One or the other. Don't try to play some hedging kind of bullshit game for the 4th year in a row.

  41. I don't ever want the AD to decline an opportunity for our players to play if they want to keep playing. They earned that right. There shouldn't be a category that says "screw current players so that future players may be better". Anyway, I have my NIT tickets and Mrs. HB and I will be there living the dream and providing our full support.

  44. THIS 100 times over. As fans should we not be happy we get to watch at least 1 more game? I know I am. If what at least one poster here says and we do have our next coach lined up, let the kids play. Do any of us really think that 7 to 14 days is going to make that much of a difference for the next guy?

  45. I know people at least as close to Fred as you do who said he wasn't interested in the job but that was months ago and things can change. Your problem is that you say you know and all you have is trust me, and get pissed when people question you. I don't doubt you have been told things by people you trust, and I appreciate your input but calm down.

  48. Dude, lighten up some. Don't play the wahhhhh card.. Say what you want let it simmer and then tell all of us to "Suck It" and if it is wrong come on here and say sorry I was wrong. If you had been on here longer you would know we aren't the typical message we are kind of more mellow and try to let things go, but we also like to be respectful. And lastly maybe take your own advice and don't read everybody's thread.
    3 points
  49. Maybe you do know people who know things. But to me, it feels like you state everything as fact and refute everyone else's opinions out of hand without acknowledging that other posters also might know people who know things. In which case, I can come up with three explanations: You truly do know people who know things. Why spend so much time arguing with everyone on the board? Just wait for the facts to become public knowledge, come back, tell everyone told you so, and then watch as people take your insight more seriously next time. You know people who think they know things. They may or may not be right, but again we'll find out eventually and you can double down on your stances for as long as you like. It sucks to be lead astray and have to eat crow; I'd guess most people on the board could empathize with that. You don't actually know people who know things. Are you just making stuff up for the attention? Are you trying to manifest things into existence by putting out that energy into the universe? Again, totally your prerogative - many people don't have the time or patience to give that energy to you. Regardless, it seems somewhat juvenile to say "I have the best ball, lot's of people are telling me it's the best, and everyone should want to play with it." But then if people are trying to argue about which ball is better, you come back and say "I'm not willing to debate which ball is best, so I'm just going to take my ball and go home."
