  2. If we can get Glynn, James, and Roby to play at a high level and everyone else play like they did tonight is it a stretch to say our season can turn around? I'm two beers deep and about to start hitting liquor. So if I sound crazy pardon me

  3. yep, no worries here about it being pleasing to the eye. I watched a shitload of Marist and Delaware St. basketball last year.

  4. I'm not sure why there is such disagreement with the foul on Coffey, his arm was not vertical, he was in the vertical space over JPJ's head and both shoulders James has every right to go up

  5. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A TRAVEL ON A BASELINE OUT OF BOUNDS PLAY This was egregiously called in the 2003 Final 4 with Kansas vs Syracuse. Don’t remember situation. Know I got into a big argument about it though. They were talking about it tonight on the BTN postgame and maybe Hummel and Katz need to actually know the rules before they call out Glenn on that throw in. You can do the Tommy Boy maniac dance on the baseline if you want on a stationary throw in. As long as you don’t leave the throw in ‘box’ there is no such thing as a travel on a throw in. Other misunderstood rules miscalls. 1. Offense throws a pass during live play that gets deflected and gets called for a foul trying to recover a loose ball. This is a team control foul therefore no FT awarded unless the defense gains possession prior to the foul . 2. Catch. Hop. Jump shot. It’s a travel. 3. Rebounding your own airball is NOT a travel. 4. Recovering a loose ball and sliding across the floor is NOT a travel (rules changed recently so I’ll give a pass to some)

  8. I do think it's telling that they've all but given up on the Runza noise meter thing. Last night it went up a couple times but didn't really get much above 92. I was so looking forward to a free burger today, too, but I'm also five months pregnant and was out-shouting most of the sections around me, so there's that. Crowd was present for the most part, which I appreciate. But I'm not about to fall all over the place congratulating ourselves for how amazing we are. Help pitch in to earn me some Runza and then I'll start dropping accolades like "best ever" but I'm burger-less and hungry today (and the lunch I brought to work doesn't sound so wonderful right now) so nope.

  9. My husband is a referee and has been for over 30 years. He loves being around the kids. He tunes out most of the fans although he has occasionally kicked fans out of the gym. That usually stops the ridiculousness. He usually sticks up for refs saying they call what they see at the time. However, last night, for example, as soon as he saw who the refs were, he said 2 of them were known to be terrible. There is a big time shortage at the high school level in Nebraska and Iowa—maybe all over. I think there is a college class at UNL that teaches how to ref. My husband recently reffed with a couple of guys in their late 20s who had taken the class and he said they were really good refs. I always have teased my hubby that he loves it because I don’t yell at him enough. Ha!

  10. The people leaving the game last night at the 1:29 mark are the true hardcore game leavers. Everyone staying until the end added about 5 minutes to my drive home.

  11. -Stull for Minny isn't very good. He had no chance guarding Palmer and Watson. Wished he would've played more. -Watson guarding Coffey was effective. Not sure why Slick Rick jr. didn't have him post Glynn up. -Murphy may be considered a beast but he has great touch around the basket for such a physical player. -Charge on Murphy was on other end of court so didn't get good look. Appeared to be good call. Not sure why Slick Rick jr. had him drive? -Last call was definitely questionable. However, did see a still photo that showed Coffey brought his arms down about 45 degrees. And how many times have we seen Borchardt and Roby get called for that very thing.

  13. i just don't feel like this team can score enough points to realistically make a run. hope i'm wrong. the next 2 are very winnable. 16-11 with 4 ranked games to finish the season would at least provide some excitement.

  14. Palmer was definitely fouled on his last shot. The defender made contact on his shooting arm before going vertical. Thor Tripp has the evidence. Here it is—the second video below:

  15. Nana may have missed the scout or not have been in game shape. Amir was pretty effective and with Watson and Palmer hitting we needed more D than O. The last foul reminded me of our poor close outs that cost us the Incarnate Word game a few years back. Fouling a guy on the three. You can't close out that way and have contact. (especially on the road. ;)) I am in the minority here but if Nebraska scrapes to a winning a record then I say: We won the state this year, we are starting to win the state in recruiting (with talent trending up), we have some nice pieces coming back and coming in, we had back to back winning seasons in a conference this year which was an absolute beast. Tim is my guy. I think the most likely scenario is 17-16 and a new coach, but it's not what I want. (Finish 2-4 and then 1-1 in tourney)

  18. I wanted this win so bad in the second half, not even for our resume or any hopes of the postseason, but just to reward these guys for sticking with it and how hard they played and well they shot.

  22. After 19 years of futility, after a 7 game losing streak the fans still showed up. We easily have the best turnout to result ratio of any team at any level. Maybe it has something to do with hope forged by disappointment that has made the fanbase steely; the resolve this fanbase has is unmatched. Either way when we got loud last night I was proud.

  24. I could see scenarios where we make the tourney and still fire Miles or where we don't and still keep him; last year certainly was one. After living through the gut punch that was the month of January personally I'm rooting for us to win every single game with no strings attached as to the fate of Tim Miles.

  25. Since Miles' job was brought up as was inevitable, one last thought regarding 2020 starting lineups : With Miles: Brady Heiman, Dachon Burke,Thomas Allen, Isaiah Roby, Jervay Green Without Miles: Heiman, Burke, and three other guys. Not saying it will happen, but certainly a possibility. Final thought-Pitino was played by Dustin Hoffman.

  27. Just really happy for the players. Hopefully they can play a little looser now. A big win Saturday would at least make those final 4 games intriguing. I don't think they have enough offense without Cope, but they'd still be in the conversation with a win vs NW. I thought the last call was a good one - as rr52 said, he had his arms at an angle, inside Palmer's "cylinder" - Coffey threw his arms up and flew backward when he felt the contact, tried to sell Palmer jumping into him, but I thought it was a foul because of his arm angle when Palmer started his shot. Palmer did come forward just a bit, but Coffey's arms were in his cylinder, so Palmer's vertical plane shouldn't matter. Uhhhh, you just let a team that has not been able to make 1/3 of its FGs the last month make 1/2 of its FGs against you. You didn't deserve to win. If you deserved to win, it wouldn't have come down to a last shot/referee call. This quote, among many other reasons, is why he'll always be Mr. Jackwagon.

  28. You don’t have to score a ton of points to win. You have to be efficient. If we play a 65 possession (130 total) game and score 65 we will win. PPG is rubbish. Quality decisions and quality shots will suffice as long as we don’t shoot awful % like some of the guys have done recently. Even from the FT line. Get out of our own heads.

  29. What was great about Palmer's 24 was that it was an efficient 24. It wasn't a volume result, like many of his are. He played a really good offensive game.

  30. That's because they suck. Ref the game, and not the player or the time. They are so bad and Inconsistent they are sucking the joy out of the game. May give up watching the sport

What I don’t agree with was the way Pitino was able to act after the call on Palmer before the game was over. He was well onto the court and some of those words were.... not nice. I realize that it was a bad call and ole Kelly probably knew it. But that still doesn’t give Pitino an excuse to act like that.

  41. hahaha. Kent getting a little salty. But before he has to wade in here and clarify this, I'll happily play Kent's lawyer: Dick is a common patronymic for Richard. (cough cough).

  42. Glad we got the win. We needed that!! Hopefully we can keep it going & bring back some hope/belief again. Is it just me, or do we seem to have a bunch of near turnovers because we don't catch a ball cleanly or lose it slightly while dribbling through traffic? It seemed like Roby could have had a few more turnovers if he didn't corral the ball himself.

  44. Whew...nice win, a much needed win! A few things that jumped out at me: - Murphy is a very good college player. But man, does he get away with a lot sh**. So when something does go against him, I can understand his/their angst. - Defensively I thought our bigs did okay, but man, statistically, it appears their bigs blew us away... - James played well last night. I was a bit concerned at the start of the second half with his "ole" defense, but after a few minutes, he tightened up his "d" as well. - Good minutes from the bench last night. I thought, offensively, Brady again showed glimpses of positivity. - Amir's length was once again a weapon on defense. - We shot 50% from the floor yet scored only 62 points. That my friends is taking some air out of the ball. Like it or not, that is how we have to play right now. - I am very happy for Glynn. One negative...stop being a drama queen. Not trying to be overly critical, but that turnover on the inbound pass towards the end of the game CAN NEVER happen. - Tanner is likely bruised and battered today. I cannot believe his empty stat line given the work he put in last night. I am sure he doesn't mind. - Isaiah, Isaiah, Isaiah...trust your shot my man. Dribbling into turnovers after giving up an open look has got to stop. That said, he gave one heck of an effort on the defensive end trying to contain Murphy one-on-one. - Player of the game in my mind was Tom. Heck of an effort last night. I only wish he would have gotten a few more shots. Again, this was a much needed win, and such a relief to get it.

Pavelka called him an "idiot" after the Murphy charge. Jake tried to calm him down and Kent was having none of it! Husker Sports posts the games on their Soundcliud, highly recommend giving it a listen!

  50. No need to pile on Miles. The die is cast. I'd rather appreciate the months Tim has given us in that seven years that we didn't enjoy in the previous 13: Feb. 8-March 9, 2014: an 8-1 run that culminated with No-Sit Sunday and the Selection Show excitement on March 16. January 2016: a four-game winning streak that included Nebraska's second-consecutive home victory against Michigan State. January 2018: a 7-3 record with a last-second win against Illinois and a manhandling of Michigan. February 2018: a 5-1 record with a thrilling Senior Day blowout of Penn State. Nov. 14-Dec. 16: 2018: a 7-2 run that included Nebraska's first victory over Creighton in nearly a decade. Yeah, it will end badly. Most coaching tenures do, including Nee's and Iba's. Cipriano's tenure ended tragically, of course, putting all the rest of this pouting in its proper perspective. Just like that ex-wife you have (OK, maybe it's just me): it wasn't meant to be, but at least we can remember the good times, no matter how few and far between they may have been.
