  1. This basketball season is lost. No ifs, and, or buts about it. But this is one of those days for me that puts life into context, and in a good way. My wife and I have been foster parents to a joyful little boy for the last 678 days. We've been in and out of the hospital with him with a variety of issues, among them two cranial reconstruction surgeries. It's been a long, long journey, but in a few short hours he will be ADOPTED. He is my son. He is home forever, and we are eternally grateful. So even though we're mired in the middle of the most Nebrasketball-ish Nebrasketball season ever, all is not lost in my home today. All is found.

  2. First thing is that it's adjusted for our schedule which is the 6th hardest defensively. Our "Raw" ranking is 105th. Otherwise things like our lack of turnovers mitigate this as well as a turnover is the same as a missed shot.

I've been waiting to make a "through these gates walk the fans who thought the coach should have been fired two years ago" joke and finally I found the place to put it!

Lee also started the "reporter's estimated" attendance in Nee's final season. Being a Nee supporter, it irked me at the time. In retrospect, Danny should have left a year or two earlier, anyway. That seems to be kind of a recurring theme around here...

    When it rains it pours

Per tweet from Chris Heady, "probably no Nana tomorrow for Nebraska. Been sick the last two days per miles." Geez, this is getting ridiculous. If we didn't have bad luck we wouldn't have any at all. Ball due to start bouncing our way.

  8. If you want to get really weird... win both of the games this week and we will be in some brackets but still feeling bad about ourselves. Then those two games next week become HUGEEEEEE swing games. If we're going to make a run... it has to start tonight. Has to.

  10. It's still so bizarre... we are first four out right now and talking about canning the coach as an inevitability. And, yet, it feels like it is. Weirdest season I've ever witnessed. I always hope we get wins, but I hope we get a win tonight just to make it weirder.

Possibly not but it doesn’t help when he is one of the few guys that the ball has a realistic chance of going in from outside along with Allen Palmer and roby. It is mind boggling in this era of basketball how we can be so dreadful at shooting the ball.

  12. On March 17, 1983, in the first round of the Mideast Regional of the NCAA Tournament, 11th seeded Ohio Universty beat 6th seeded Illinois State by a score of 51-49, in the then 52-team format. This remains the only win in the NCAA Tournament by a Nebraska head basketball coach, accounting for games coached before, during, and after coaching Nebraska.

  13. That's what a lot of Kansas St's fan base probably thought right up until he made the Elite 8. The guy who didn't win enough at a basketball school is about our best case scenario in a coaching change

And yet we'd still buy tickets to go to the first round If that ever did happen, then hopefully we'd be the "can you believe that they let that Nebraska team in...and they actually won a game?"

I think/feel tonight's game attendance will be a season low tonight. 8:00 start, mid week game, losing streak... I will be there still yelling for us to get out of,the funk. Just win baby!!?

    What if...

Maybe someone has mentioned it but I didn’t see it. Somehow our NET rank is still 40. There is something seriously wrong with that statistic and I assume the selection committee is smart enough to figure that out. But an RPI of 40 for a power 5 has basically been an automatic bid for almost at least the last decade. Just throwing that out there.

Yes, he supposedly is out. My bat-sense was tingling on this announcement. I thought Nana's first half against Purdue was his best half of basketball in about three weeks. Yet he did not play in the second half. After the game, I asked if anyone knew the reason why, and there were no responses. So was he ill then, or did something else occur?

I think we have a much better scout on Kalscheur and we're talking about the 5th option on the team here. Murphy and Coffey are the big concern

which invariably means Kalscheur is left wide open for a dozen clear treys and the Varmint Cong get 40 ft attempts. Got it.

  25. It makes you wonder what's really going behind the scenes. Behind Door #1: Moos has full confidence in Miles and is expressing his support. Behind Door #2: Moos is blowing steam and is planning on hiring someone on his desk drawer coaches list. He just needs to kill time and get through the rest of the season. Behind Door #3: Moos has already contacted coaches on his list and isn't finding any interest, so he's trying to hedge his bets and keep Miles in good standing should Moos need to wait to find a new coach.

He was there for them. “He said he’s gotta make a decision after the year on what to do, retention is certainly an option, and he wanted us to know, ‘Don’t listen to any noise out there,’” Miles told The World-Herald. Check Twitter or message boards and Miles is considered a dead man walking after this year’s collapse from 11-2 to 13-11. So that encouragement from Moos out of the blue, amid this losing streak, energized Miles, he said. “I think at his heart, Bill is a coaches (A.D.), and he loves the locker room, he loves the interaction with the people, it’s what he’s best at,” Miles said. “It felt great. It was a nice boost of energy. Everyone had a little more hop in their step after.”

  36. This is awesome. God-willing, my husband and I hope to someday get to expand our family by adoption, although I don't know how that will look for us (I'd prefer via foster care, but we've got our first biological little one on the way now too so who knows what comes down the road after that). But there's a special place in my heart for people who open their homes to the joy adoption can bring. It's amazing. All the best to you and your family!

With a three-game winning streak (beginning tomorrow night) @Bugeaters1 and @NebrasketballJake (16-11) would win this contest. (I hope they win!) With a 2-1 record over the next three games, my 15-12 prediction would win. (I only said 15-12 because nobody had guessed it yet.) No one predicted 14-13. @Norm Peterson (AKA Normstradomis) predicted 13-14. Nothing against Norm, but I hope he doesn't win this contest - our players need a win!

  40. Of Iowa's nine rotation players, five are in-state kids: Baer, Bohannon, Wieskamp, Kriener and McCaffery. Pemsl is also an Iowan, but is out for the year. Moss is from Chicago, of which Iowa City is an unofficial suburb.

  41. The bad thing is that you can make all the adjustments in the world and still look bad if the shots aren't falling. I think the Purdue game was a great example of this. We looked much better offensively. Was it because we were doing something different? It didn't look like it. It looked more like the shots were falling. We lost the Purdue game more on the defensive end than the offensive.

  42. About ten years ago I made the front page of the OWH standing in the football stands at the end of a particularly bad football game. It was cold and the mood was sour. But I sit in a real good seat surrounded by pretty decent fans. But at the end of that particular game I was one of about five people left in the entire section. Not saying anything beyond that our fans do show up. We are not LA fans that arrive fashionably late and leave early. We are usually there on time, we typically are respectful and loud and we have a high percentage (typically) that will see it through to the end. That said, we have some that will always leave early. I can judge and my judgment is a thumbs down to them, but hey, they bought a ticket and we live in a country of the brave and the free. BUT, I also have the right to respectfully tell them that they should not be leaving early, and if they do, sneak out the back, and do not parade in front of me, distracting me from my game enjoyment.

  43. I agree with the OP almost completely. Leaving early is baffling. Yes some people have babysitters or something important happening, but only some people. So I can understand some people leaving but not that usual ‘mass exodus’. I guess I am a basketball-only husker fan so I look forward to every game, want to watch very minute, and when I can, drive down from Omaha in crappy weather to watch even a struggling team play. The mass exodus doesn’t bother me as much as Wednesday though. Arrived one minute late to a half-empty, dead-silent arena. Only a half-full student section. Could hear Turgeon from the 300 level. People booing college kids that are playing a game for our entertainment who are in a funk. Honestly, I bet our guys are passing up shots because they don’t want to hear the groans for a miss or a sarcastic cheer for a make. Disheartening. Yes there are die-hard basketball fans (anyone on this board obviously) but I think I have to face the music and realize many fans that come to the games are football fans and FAIRWEATHER basketball fans. I think we just should take the classic JFK approach to watching sports to heart. ‘Ask not what your team can do for you, ask what you can do for your team.’ In other words, we need to be that sixth man and pump up the players so they aren’t afraid of upsetting the fickle fans in the arena who won’t show up/leave early.

  45. That is true for last year but overall, if you look at the top 10 highest attended spring games ever, NU comes in at #8 with Ohio State taking the top 3 spots followed by Georgia at #4 and then Alabama #5 - #7. NU is 8th followed by Alabama and Auburn.
