  1. This basketball season is lost. No ifs, and, or buts about it. But this is one of those days for me that puts life into context, and in a good way. My wife and I have been foster parents to a joyful little boy for the last 678 days. We've been in and out of the hospital with him with a variety of issues, among them two cranial reconstruction surgeries. It's been a long, long journey, but in a few short hours he will be ADOPTED. He is my son. He is home forever, and we are eternally grateful. So even though we're mired in the middle of the most Nebrasketball-ish Nebrasketball season ever, all is not lost in my home today. All is found.

  3. This is awesome. God-willing, my husband and I hope to someday get to expand our family by adoption, although I don't know how that will look for us (I'd prefer via foster care, but we've got our first biological little one on the way now too so who knows what comes down the road after that). But there's a special place in my heart for people who open their homes to the joy adoption can bring. It's amazing. All the best to you and your family!

  6. The flight is overbooked. You take out the cursed monkey paw in your pocket * I wish I could get on this flight * The paw moves. The airline calls your name and has your ticket. You spend the next 6 hours on the runway in the middle seat of a plane where two people are arguing about post coach Tom Osborne Nebraska football the entire time.

I disagree. 6 5-game losing streaks in 7 seasons (twice in 1 season) sounds pretty consistent to me!

With a three-game winning streak (beginning tomorrow night) @Bugeaters1 and @NebrasketballJake (16-11) would win this contest. (I hope they win!) With a 2-1 record over the next three games, my 15-12 prediction would win. (I only said 15-12 because nobody had guessed it yet.) No one predicted 14-13. @Norm Peterson (AKA Normstradomis) predicted 13-14. Nothing against Norm, but I hope he doesn't win this contest - our players need a win!

  10. I know the feeling! My wife and I are having our first little one (girl) in a couple of months, and even though this basketball season has sucked - I still usually have a sh*t eating grin on my face most of the time for that reason. So happy for your family!

I wouldn't mind seeing the script huskers at mid-court. I like that look, maybe inside the state outline. This is the court I grew up with. (Man the three point arc and basketball at the free throw line were so cartoonish)

Another necro'd thread reminding even the most pessimistic of us that we weren't anywhere near as cynical as we needed to be...:) You would think Nebrasketball would have us conditioned better by now. Preseason hope really does spring eternal.

  23. We could do a lot worse, winning is all that matters but it would be nice to have someone that actually plays an exciting brand of basketball. Weber does not fit that mold IMO.
    1 point
  24. He's a lot more valuable than he was a year ago at this time. K-State likes Weber a bit more than Maryland likes Turgeon as I think his original $500k buyout clause is still in effect . (You can purchase Turgeon for just $350k)

If we make the Dance then there is no question he should stay. There are a lot of solid teams that go through rough stretches. Even without losing one of their top players.

    What if...

I'm sure NU is still in the conversation on some brackets - losing streaks aren't part of the team sheet, so that's not something the committee will consider. As of now, NU is still #40 in the NET and has 2 Q1 wins and 4 Q2 wins. Taken alone, that's a bubble team. At this point, we're going to have 23-24 Q1/Q2 games before the B1G tournament. That's a crazy high number. So I can see why people who haven't seen us play much the past month would look at the team sheet and see we still have 5 Q1 and 2 Q2 games left, plus a conference tournament, and think there's still a chance. Those who've actually seen what's been going on on the floor, though, would have a vastly different opinion.

    What if...

People at work said sharp and benning quoted a projection that Nebraska is Firat Four Out. I mean if a seven game skid still keeps you on the discussion, it doesn’t take a huge winning streak. But they haven’t been able to compete. If NU wins both this week, we’ll have so many optimistic posts to read ?

If Miles is let go before the season ends you're basically giving our current recruits and players head starts to get out of their LOIs/transfer. Assuming we're hiring a new coach we'd want to give him every opportunity to retain the guys we have. You're also sending a message to any new coach that you're willing to cut bait when the going gets tough and you're willing to do so with a coach that is well liked by the guys in the industry in this place where it's hard to win. Let this thing play out and we'll go from there.

    What if...

Honestly think it's more likely that we win 4 more in the regular season, 2-3 in the BTT and go dancing. Either way, my goal was a to make the dance. An overall body of work would show that Miles has been able to do that twice in 7 years. The question would then become... is that enough for you?

I'm a purist - traditional wood color, red N in the center. Simple, clean. No stupid designs, no color filling in the 3-point area. Just worry about what's actually playing ON the floor. #GetOffMyLawn

  42. We were a tourney team last year. By the end of the year, the league was far better than the perception was and the ridiculous reliance on the RPI to develop the quadrants was devastating.

  43. It is all so sad. This was going to be our year. It was not meant to be. I grew up watching Nee's teams. I never thought that Collier really fit in (That time he skipped the postgame after a big loss at Creighton was it for me). Doc I like but he could never get it going. I thought Tim would be the one. We had flashes. It all built up to this year. It looked so promising. But then it imploded. It is time to move on. No Sit Sunday reminds me of a quote from Dr. Hunter S. Thompson: "Our energy would simply PREVAIL. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave... So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in ... (PBA) ..and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high water mark — that place where the wave finally broke, and rolled back.” No Sit Sunday was the high water mark. It should have been the beginning of greatness instead it was all we got. I will be there to cheer at all the remaining games and wish them all the best, players and coaches. Go Big Red! Let's hope the next coach and players will show us what we can be.

  46. Palmer and Watson provide an intriguing and painful conundrum for Miles as all three head out the door. They've all three given their hearts to the program (along with Borchardt), and they've all had a limited degree of success here — and by "limited," I mean as much as any player or coach has had since Lue and Nee took off nearly 20 years ago. So do you give them fewer minutes? It's not like Miles is indebted to the program at this point that he feels it's important to HIM to play younger players in place of more proven players, especially because any demotion will not improve team morale, and it would really cast a pall on the March 9 Senior Day against Iowa, the one and only game that I consider a "must win" from here on out. In short, yeah, Miles could adopt a WTF attitude and do some unexpected things with the rotation, but it could actually make things worse and tarnish whatever small legacy the seniors will be leaving.

  47. Building a roster that can do well in the NCAA tournament is different than building a roster that can do well in the NCAA tournament AND that can survive the grind of a major conference with legitimate frontcourts. (Witness this years Nebraska team, if this team was in the Atlantic 10 or Mountain West or even the Big East or Pac12 it would go about 25-5 in the regular season and make the sweet sixteen, but it couldn't survive 20 games against Big Ten competition - the frontcourt matchups just didn't work.) Shaka proved he could win in the tournament once he got there, but he hasn't proven he can get there when he's in a major conference.

I don't know. Hoiberg's coaching profile is beginning to remind me of Tim Floyd's, without the dishonest accusations but with some health issues. He may have reached the "burnout"stage of his career or at least a phase where the ambition is lacking.
