    Hail Glynn Watson!

Not sure I've ever felt worse for a guy than Glynn. Really good guy. This is painful.

  2. Why are we talking about a coaching change when we are about to go on a 8 game winning streak to close the season? Mile's do it now problem isnt this year...it's next year. Plz put your energy elsewhere.

  3. One way we could win: Outfit the entire team with Haarms wigs. Haarms would be so distracted by the temptation to run his fingers through all our players' hair that he'd commit a lot of turnovers and not play any defense.

  4. I’ll give you this... you’ve had a few decent one liners since you’ve been active the past 6 weeks or so. Not enough for a green arrow, but you’re getting there. Sadly I’m not a fan that you get happiness out of our current situation. So no matter what direction this season goes however... it’ll be nice to get a 2ish year hiatus again after the seasons over.

  6. Thoughts after my delayed viewing of last night's debacle: 1. The mass exodus of fans reminded me of the Oklahoma State football game in Callahan's last year. 2. Even the Big10 announcers were appalled by the exodus.3. Believe me, I understand the frustration, but I have seen many college games in many venues and I have always believed the Nebraska fans were no different than most other fans-gracious when things are going good, not so much when we are losing. 4. No need to humiliate the team any more than already had been done-it wasn't getting any colder during the few minutes it takes to walk to the door. 5. We may be the best fans in America at stalking out early, though. 6. Hope I don't get too many down votes, but I have always thought calling ourselves the "best fans" was a somewhat arrogant claim.

  9. I think Miles has been a fantastic ambassador for the program, has brought some excitement back to the team (although if fan turnout and support continues like it was against Maryland, back to Sadler/Bob Devaney Sports Center then we have lost that), and he's found a niche in the transfer market to bring in better talent. But he's struggled to turn that into consistent success. But by Year 7, Miles is either "your guy" or he's not. Extending a coach in Year 7 who has 0 NCAA wins, 0 NIT wins, has only been in the postseason 2 of 7 years, has averaged 10.5th place in conference play so far, and is on the brink of not even making the NIT with his best roster he's had at Nebraska, may just continue the bleeding and delay the inevitable which is why people are deciding to put their energy elsewhere.

  10. Building a roster that can do well in the NCAA tournament is different than building a roster that can do well in the NCAA tournament AND that can survive the grind of a major conference with legitimate frontcourts. (Witness this years Nebraska team, if this team was in the Atlantic 10 or Mountain West or even the Big East or Pac12 it would go about 25-5 in the regular season and make the sweet sixteen, but it couldn't survive 20 games against Big Ten competition - the frontcourt matchups just didn't work.) Shaka proved he could win in the tournament once he got there, but he hasn't proven he can get there when he's in a major conference.

  15. As if Mackey Arena isn't the best home court advantage in the conference already, tonight is the "Hammer Down Cancer" game with the jerseys being auctioned off with proceeds going to The Tyler Trent fund. That place is going to be JUICED UP tonight.

  16. While the basketball on the court tonight may not be pretty, we’ve got ourselves a color vs color jersey matchup tonight with both jerseys having a good cause and meaning behind them

  18. I really don't think now is the time to crap on husker basketball fans. We are the most loyal and have shown up through 2 decades of bad coaches. I'm not sure why we keep showing up losing season after losing season but we do. We have the most loyal basketball fans. Let's not insult them for showing up to watch team on a 5 game losing streak.

  20. I can not agree any more, HB. I fondly recall that Glynn made my 11 year old son's day by snapping a quick pic at the Nebrasketball Buddies function, right in the middle of this season (mid-Dec.). In fact, I remember Glynn telling the 250 kiddos that the team had Big Ten Tournament Championship aspirations as well as seeking the Final Four as their B1G Goal to 2019. It is highly important to set HUGE goals as a leader; so, rightfully, I felt fairly enamored with his leadership by example. Well, despite the latest unforeseen swoon, he's still a leader in my book, as Glynn's getting up shots when everyone else left the arena after that zip-for-10 night. I believe Watson's a baller, bottom line. And I have a huge amount of respect for a dude who stayed when all of his fellow ballyhooed FROSH class left. Go Glynn, let's get this s@^& turned around (a la Roburt Sallie!). GBR !!!

  21. It's interesting times in Husker fandom. I've never really understood the constant bickering back & forth; I suppose it shows that Husker fans are not truly apathetic. Most every other fandom would just not show up, at all. Husker fans may come & go, but they *always* show up. That's commendable, even if some leave early, that doesn't hide the fact they CARE because all those fans were THERE. GBR !!!

    Hail Glynn Watson!

the consensus was glynn made this thing go. I think reality largely confirmed that assessment. He's been way off; so has the team. But always amusing (in the darkest possible way) to take our most optimistic ravings and then dredge them back up just to see if the wound can take more salt.

  27. Watson has never been a point guard in my opinion. He dribbles aimlessly at the top of the key. When he does drive he is out of control and does not see his open teammates. At the end of the first half I told my wife that Watson will dribble the clock out to about 8 seconds then either jack up a desparate off balance three or drive wildly. He drove all the way under the basket and then out to the free throw line where his wild shot was blocked. He he did not see two or three wide open teammates on this predictable journey. On the other hand Thor is always driving and looking for an open teammate but I noticed in his 17 minutes he seldom touched the ball as Watson, Palmer or Allen started with the ball. If Thor is in the game he needs the ball to distribute because his shooting ability is not good.

Hate to say it for her sake, but that history of injuries with the same knee may not project to a long, continuous college career.

Had Moos attended the basketball game one has to wonder if it would have raised our FG% atleast 5 points to get over 25% for the game.

Totally get that it isn't basketball-specific, but it does seem like a weird policy, especially since it seems to be sort of randomly applied (Volleyball was allowed to work with him for the majority of their season, and does anyone really think that if Scott Frost wanted to have someone come in to talk to the football team, it wouldn't be permitted?). Maybe it doesn't make a difference at all, I don't know. But if it isn't costing anything, and the coach feels like it's worthwhile, and literally the same person has seen good results with other teams within the same department, I guess it seems like an odd policy to enact. If it flips even a single game outcome (and gives us a two or three or four game losing streak instead of the continuous slide as we bottom out), isn't that worth it? Again, not saying THIS is the reason we're losing. But the question was about support shown for the coaches by the administration, and this is one example of a place where there was a very easy opportunity to provide something the coach felt was useful (without adding a penny to the budget or a minute of time spent) and instead a random policy was enacted, thus denying said support.

  37. Yeah, we just sold 80,000 tickets in 24 hours for a scrimmage by a team that has gone 4-8 in back to back years. We sure do suck and there are a lot of much better fan bases doing that.

Ew. It's one thing to cover for your player who steals a bike or cheats on a test. But covering for your player who habitually rapes people (and using a ministry to do it) is a whole other level. I'm not asking for a saint but this should be a pretty low bar to clear. UCLA caught plenty of flak for hiring him after that (and there were plenty of protests at Iowa too), as they should. I'm not a fan of how Osborne handled stuff in the 90s either (arguably it cost him the governor's mansion too), but I would hope we could learn from that and do better now. "Hire someone who doesn't try to actively cover up serial rape" shouldn't be a groundbreaking statement. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

From CBS Chicago in 2013: Pierre Pierce performed unwanted sex acts on a female student at his apartment, covering her mouth when she tried to scream. He eventually plea-bargained to a charge of assault causing injury, later issuing a public apology for “inappropriate sexual contact with a fellow student.” Had Alford succeeded in his efforts to strong-arm the victim, it all would have evaporated. The disgusting ploy backfired, however, and only steeled her resolve to pursue criminal charges. Alford enlisted the help of close friend Jim Goodrich, the campus representative for Christian group Athletes in Action who often traveled with the team and conducted bible-study sessions. Per specific instruction from Alford, the victim was invited to what she was told was a “prayer meeting,” at which she was urged to back off and not cause problems for a basketball program that could overpower her. This could describe James Naismith and I would beg for someone else. If we have even a shred of decency we will stay far, far, far away from Steve Alford.

From a couple pages back...I think this is a bigger deal than the airtime it's receiving. You had a resource being given freely to the AD (if you follow Twitter you see that his services were on a volunteer basis, so it didn't even cost the department a penny) that clearly was effective -- the volleyball team certainly benefitted from his services, and the basketball team looked entirely different in November (before he was axed) than it does now. But the administration, who allegedly is committed to providing all the resources the team needs for success, intentionally eliminated this one. Why? (If you want to say that this should be the coach's job, I hope you'd tell John Cook the same thing and to give back that national championship.) Support doesn't have to mean a nice facility to practice. It doesn't have to mean a big buyout. Sometimes it can just mean showing a modicum of interest in the program, and not cutting out the resource the coach himself identified as being a need for his team.

  42. The fan di*k measuring contest gets old. I'm a better fan then you becuase I do X, Y, Z. Worry about yourself. People might leave early because they have a babysitter and need to get home, or they have work early the next day and need to get some sleep. I think the only people that care about this issue is other fans worrying about what others do with their time and money.

  43. I'm upvoting this because it's more than obviously true. I don't like population exceptionalism in any context, and the "best fans" thing is usually just some insecurity stroking by people hell bent on selling something you otherwise wouldn't buy. Fans are fans. Some good, some less good, some borderline psychotic and in desperate need of therapy. So there ya go. You got one agreement from the peanut gallery.
