  1. One thing I've learned from this thread: don't lose to Rutgers.

  2. I would pony up for the lowers (which you still should be able to get) as they go better in the secondary market and are just $110 for the whole tourney. In Chicago there are all kinds of persons buying and selling outside but it has to be a little bit on the down low there as there sometimes is some actual policing. The difference between the lowers and uppers view wise is significant in United Center imho. If you really want to go on the cheap, I would just buy individuals for each session we are in as the first few days are fairly cheap outside or online in my experience. I generally have gone and want to watch the whole tourney and imho $400 feels like a really good deal for all lowers. It is A LOT of basketball however. Some LONG days if you choose to go to all the games. There is not a lot to do RIGHT around United Center but there's usually a beer tent set up outside that everyone tries to jam into between the sessions. It's wise to try and get in there early. I like Chicago better than Indy as a town, but would much rather go to Indy for the event because of it's proximity to everything. Also the arena is more basketball centric. That being said, Chicago isn't bad as there is a special bus that heads straight to the United Center or you can take the L on two different lines that both end up about 4-5 blocks from the United Center. Hope that's of some help!

  3. I had forgotten about losing Jack. It would be nice to have him as a contributor this year. As good as I think our starting 5 is, until recently I was wearing rose colored glasses about this team's shortcomings. Though nearly every team out there has weaknesses, our current woes have shined the light on our weaknesses. We are probably a bench player or two away from being a sure-fire upper echelon big ten team. The Xavier Johnson decommit was significant as well, though I think Amir will be a solid player for us. Xavier would have been a major contributor right away. I share the concern that our coach is not a great psychologist with this bunch. It appears to me they aren't having a lot of fun playing the game right now. A little bit of Scott Frost's mantra of "having a desire to excel without the fear of failure" would do these guys good right now.

  4. From the same article you pulled the quote from: History/Tradition-12 Media Exposure-11 Game Atmosphere-6 Budget/Resources-7 Recruiting Base-13 Facilities-2 Selling Pros-12 Admission Requirement-3 Overall-9 So combining budget and facilities were aren't anything too special. Combine that with the other rankings, as I mentioned in my other comments, and there really isn't much reason to expect to be a winning program in the Big Ten. I'm guessing most high level players would rather play for a winning, historic program than one with a nice practice gym and locker room.

  6. Had to beat ISU then win at Baylor to achieve that 8-8 for the 2008-09 squad. Seemed good at the time. And NU beat CU 54-52, too.

  10. 22. Nebraska Cornhuskers Tim Miles has done a great job in Lincoln, and the Nebraska brass has stuck with him rather than stay on the "fire the coach, don't give adequate time, fire the next coach" carousel. Miles has veteran guards in James Palmer Jr. and Glynn Watson Jr., along with outstanding wings in Isaac Copeland Jr. (the Georgetown transfer) and Isaiah Roby. If Nebraska can rebound the ball better, this is a potential second-weekend team. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/25825177/jay-bilas-ranks-68-top-teams-college-basketball-february-nears

  11. I'd get the whole package and roll the dice. If you love basketball, it's still fun if we lose. Otherwise, buy the first day and then just pick up tickets after that when we win. Most people go home after their team loses, so there are plenty scalped or online.

  12. For me, no, nothing changes. I have wanted him gone for a while. I would love to see us win an NCAA game for the first time ever, absolutely. I agree we will just be delaying the inevitable however. The same talk will be held again next year after a likely sub-par year. Best case scenario for me is we win a game (games?) in the tourney and Miles takes a lateral-ish job. Then Moos can make a hire. It would be hard not to offer him an extension after winning a game because what are you saying to other potential coaches? I don't think we can afford to put off the inevitable much longer because we need to strike while our facilities still have a wow factor relatively speaking. This is a tough job but it also has never been a better job than it is right now because of fan support and facilities. Things can turn in basketball in a hurry with just a few players. Football takes longer. I don't feel we are out much if we let Miles go sooner than later. He hasn't exactly BUILT a program here imho. Even in the times of many transfers we are on the low end when it comes to player retention. I don't mind when people leave who obviously weren't up to the standards we need to succeed, but when you start to see players you need and could use leave, it's more concerning. We'd love Ed Morrow, Michael Jacobson ... heck even Jeriah Horne ... this year. Sorry, not trying to play too big of a what if game. Many could argue the uncertainty from administration has hurt Miles's recruiting and assistant retention too I suppose. Yes, Miles has taken us to the tourney and that was an accomplishment for sure. He also gave us the worst 3 year stretch in Nebrasketball history since the early 1950s ... including one year of that being a team that was consensus Top 25 entering the season. In all of the relative awfulness that is the history of Nebraska basketball that is really saying something. My other beefs: - Lack of identity/structure on offense - Consistent scoring problems despite personnel - Players often being forced to play out of position - Significant lack of depth (if you've truly built something this shouldn't happen in year 7) - Lack of leadership (my opinion)

  15. +1, I have the same thoughts, I thought this during the Penn State game, which they won, but it sure didn't look like they were having much fun. Maybe coach needs to cancel practice one night and take'em all out for some laser tag and pizza, or whatever millennials are into these days. amiright, or amiright?

  16. Cope- “It was hard to say no to going home,” he said. “But I had to do what was best for me. I thought Nebraska had the edge. The facilities they have out there you don’t see too many places.” Palmer- “When I came on a visit here, it just blew me away — facilities, coaching staff, what they told me I needed to work on" Roby- “When you like the school and the coaches and the facilities, I don’t know what else more there is to wait for.” "Roby cited the 2-year-old Hendricks Training Complex and the 1-year old Pinnacle Bank Arena as two of the best facilities in the country, and said he felt “at home” in Lincoln from the first minute he set foot on campus." Miles is a fantastic recruiter, but lets not act facilities in college sports don't matter. They do. That goes for attracting players and coaches. Hell I don't think Miles is here if we don't have PBA and Hendricks.

  17. THIS. In fact, if you look at the articles from when we signed any of our starting five, IIRC facilities never really come up, or if they do it's as a secondary thing. (I think we had this conversation back when Kenya Hunter left? I could be making that up but I seem tor recall it.) Having nice facilities might help (admittedly no one WANTS to practice at Mabel Lee) but if we're looking at factors in recruiting, I think we can probably agree that not everything weighs equally, and from the mouths of those who did commit here, having a nice locker room didn't really have much bearing in their decision. Another thing to keep in mind: it's been joked about, but in all seriousness, with all the corruption in men's basketball recruiting, Nebraska has never come up. I'm not saying everyone cheats, but there is enough cheating going on that we don't exactly have a level playing field (which adds yet another hurdle to overcome). If we want to go down that road, maybe we'd pull in some better recruits and have quicker success -- but it seems to me that we can either have a longer road to success OR resort to some less-than-legal ways to speed up the process. I know which way I prefer.

  18. Interesting you should bring up Doc. Funny thing about that is that a lot of the complaints I've heard levelled against Miles were also levelled against Doc and Barry and Danny and Moe and ... And a lot of it by, I think, the same people. Nobody ever develops. Except when they do. But in those cases, you can't give credit to the coach because those players would have developed anyway. But other than those players who do develop, nobody ever develops, and that's the coach's fault. Our offense is sluggish. We run the weave. Can we please not run the weave anymore? That's so middle school. We need to be up-tempo. No one wants to play slow-it-down ball. You want recruits? We need to increase the tempo. Oh, but now we're giving up more offensive rebounds. Can't we slow it down? I'd rather win 45-40 than lose 90-88. And maybe run the weave once in awhile (kidding, no one ever said that.) People who think Tim Miles runs a middle school offense aren't going to suddenly think he's running a sophisticated NBA-style offense next year if he happens to be retained. I just don't want to hear the same shit a year from now, that's all.

  19. There are still a lot of games to be played and lots can happen. Make the dance and, especially, win a game when there, and Miles does not get fired; fail to make the dance, and he almost certainly will. I don't know which scenario will occur and I think either is a possibility at this point. But let me ask this: Let's say the first scenario occurs and we reach the dance and win a game. Miles is still who he is. And, for all you people who have been critical of his "middle school" offense and inability to recruit a big man and keep guys for 4 years etc. etc., he's still going to be that guy. That ain't gonna change. So, I'd like to see a show of hands: Even if this team reaches the dance and wins a game once they get there, do you still want to see Miles let go? If not, why would you want to keep a guy who continues to run a "middle school" offense, etc?

    Scouting Ohio St

How well we match up with them doesn't change the fact that we play them twice and Ohio St. once though as far as computers are concerned. We certainly need to get something going. We cannot lose again Saturday.

  28. We're already 3 games back from 4th place. It's going to have to take a good run to end the season to get there. But fortunately we still have 2 games against Purdue (although we've never beat them on the road), and 1 game a piece for Wisconsin, Iowa, Maryland, and Minnesota over the final 12 games of the season.

  29. This is completely true, but Miles obviously feels this is our best option as he regularly plays 40 mins a game if fouls allow him. Miles has had someone who plays hero ball on some level most years he's been here. To me IT IS Miles's fault. We don't have the depth to sit him and he continues to give him free reign.

  38. Touche. If you ask Cope why he came here facilities are either lower or not on the list. Quite certain there is an article that already has this answer floating around. Having good facilities is a reason for guys to not cross Nebraska off the list.

  39. We clearly haven't shaken enough couch cushions to find the $100K necessary to get them here.

  40. If were being technical, wasn't Cope one? and I don't think the resources and facilities make us more attractive to guys that have offers from Duke, NC, KU - but those aren't who we are competing with. Those facilities have gotten us 4 stars and given us the talent to compete with Iowa, Wisconsin, KState, ect.

  41. https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2014/isaac-copeland-1040 We start four players that were 4* according to rivals and one that was considered a 5*. If facilities don't matter...why do football programs and basketball programs take the time and money to invest in them? There would be no use if recruits don't care.

  42. Winning cures all ills... no one ever bitched about the Devaney when we went to 4 straight NCAA Tourneys. Conversely, if you think facilities/money translate directly to success, well the examples to the contrary are too numerous to mention. Let's sign Tim up long term, and quit wetting our finger to see which way the wind blows.

  43. “The facilities are ridiculous. You can make a case that they are the best in the league. Fans also show up – because there’s nothing else to do in Lincoln.” – Big Ten head coach B1G basketball coaches ranked our facilities #2 in the league this past fall.
    1 point
  44. I think fans tend to only see their own team's improvements and assume we have top of the line facilities. I don't know where they would honestly rank. But let's just say we are on par with every team in the B1G. We should also be relatively even when it comes to budgets due to revenue sharing. Now factor everything else: history, location, fan support, etc...Why should Nebrasketball be any higher than 10 or 11 in the Big Ten pecking order? Our average finish under Miles is a shade better than 9th. So while we may want the program to be better, I don't know what really tells us it should be better.

  45. I'd sit Tom and Roby down and say I am starting Nana and Tanner. It's nothing against Tom or Roby. I want some bench points. I go to Nana, and tell him the number of minutes you play tonight is totally up to him. I give him the best offensive player on the team and shut him down. If you can't do it, I will get Harris. I think we need our best athletes playing and stop assigning their best offensive playing to Glynn or James. Could you imagine the starting lineup of Glynn Nana Palmer Copeland Tanner Then, the under 16 time-out You have Glynn Nana Palmer Roby Brady (4) Go to zone at the under 12 Tom Palmer Cope Roby Tanner (8) Back to the under 8 to Glynn Tom Nana (12) Cope Roby Under 4 to Glynn (16) Tom (12) Palmer (16) Cope (16) Roby (16) Adjust to shooting, foul trouble, and defense. The key is shutting down the 3 or making more 3's We are allowing conference teams to shoot at .356 and we are shooting at .323. And, then get to the free throw line, and make them when we get there. And, none of this BS of being like we just need to beat team A and B because it will help us make the dance. How about just rolling the ball out, and say "we know we're better than you, so we're going to kick your ass?" Tim, you made them soft.

  46. What's really frustrating is that last year's team was as good, if not better. It's too bad the B1G got no respect and, in turn, we didn't either. When you think about what we lost, you had to figure we could possibly struggle. We basically lost an entire lineup that was as good as most Doc Sadler starting lineups: Jordy, Duby, Jack, Anton, and Evan. We replaced those guys essentially with Tanner (played some last year), Nana (hardly played at all last year), Amir (been sick, true freshman), and Brady (undersized weight-wise, true freshman, hasn't done much since 9-5 at Minnesota). I think last year's squad would beat this team more times than not. Now, Watson, Copeland, and Allen are playing better than last year, but I'm not so sure about Roby or Palmer (at least not Palmer as of late)

  47. Not to mention the complete embarrassment our program would look like nationally if the coach that finally was able to win us a tourney game was fired immediately after.

  48. I know that he's had a lot of success but in the last two years in what is essentially the worst Power 5 conference with Nike U resources he has been about to slightly less successful than Miles. Why do people think he's going to waltz into the Big 10 towards the end of his career with easily less resources and have success? Not sure why he'd want to unless he wants to get away from the laundry list of off the court issues that have happened during his tenure in Eugene.
