We played a really good team. It wasn't our night for making shots. It happens. If I was going to be mad about losing this game, I wouldn't survive the season. Win the next game and move on to the "next six."8 points -

Well...crap. Could have won that game, but... We were 12 for 26 from the rim and we really struggled with the three ball. Tough to win against anyone when you shoot 29% until the last few minutes of the game. Defense was good. Rebounding was okay. Tom played really well. But jeez, we just were always a tic off. I am disappointed, but know that if we hit our shots, we win. And oh by the way. In my mind it wasn't the offense, we were in the position to make shots, they simply did not fall.6 points -
I think we had about four 3-pointers go in and out, not to mention the 2-pointers that rolled around the rim but wouldn't drop.6 points

One word for my feelings after watching: proud. We showed up and fought to the end. There have been more top heavy MSU teams talent wise to come through here, but man... that group plays unbelievably well together. They’re my pick for the NC straight up, and they have the best coach in the country. For perspective: that’s only the second conference game anyone has stayed within single digits of MSU, and closest game they’ve had so far. They’ve been beating the piss out of everyone. We out rebounded them and had less turnovers. We were tough all night. Hard for me to complain about that.5 points -

Echo all the thoughts above, and I will add that I love how we just BELONGED in that game. How we were so close the whole game shooting that poorly blows my mind. In the past with Husker teams that I talked myself into thinking were good enough, the only way they stay in a game like that is taking the air out of the ball and shooting well. We did neither and were still close. I love these guys, what a ride this is!5 points -

Bold Prediction: Top 25

Wow. That's a very bold statement. I'm a sunshine pumper and I'm not prepared to go that far. And to think you'd have been OK with the coach being fired last March. I'll go you one further: If the coach had been fired last March, we'd be in a 3-way race with Rutgers and Illinois for last place in the league. But at least we'd have a new coach, right?5 points -

It's not like we didn't have the looks, either. The offense produced the shots; the players just didn't connect. Bad time for an off night shooting the ball. A few more of those errant shots connect and we win. I also say if JPJ had gotten rolling just a bit sooner, the outcome changes.4 points -
The clock doesn't stop after a made basket unless it occurs under 1:00. So if it occurs at 1:00.1, like this one did, the clock runs. If it occurs at 0:59.9, it stops. Kind of a silly distinction, they should just stop it at 1 minute in this kind of a case, but that's how the rule reads. MSU is even better than I thought they were - great team that plays hard for 40 minutes. Our half court defense was outstanding, but I bet we'd like to have the first 5 minutes back when we let Winston beat us down the floor repeatedly, even a few times after we made a FG. We adjusted after that, which slowed them down after our makes, but those early transition pts were huge. Throw in Ward tossing in that 3 at the end of the shot clock, Winston banking in a 3, and Winston air-balling a 3 that happened to bounce into their hands for a layup in the first half - with our poor shooting, we needed more of that stuff to go our way. But ultimately, MSU is really good - and we battled them point for point much of the game, despite an off shooting night. Hopefully we can get some shots to fall and be stronger at the rim in the rematch.4 points

By the way, Roby made some unbelievable plays for a stretch there in the 2nd half. Those blocks and saves were just ridiculous. I love how we are seeing those things from him more and more.4 points -
I thought we had pretty cleans looks. We just couldnt hit water from a boat tonight. That said, hanging with the #6 team in the country when you are clearly not playing your A game offensively says a lot about this team4 points

I still believe we had nothing to lose tonight. Plenty more resume games a head. Don't let this game beat you twice, use it as fuel going forward. Special things a head for this team I think. Poor offense, pretty good defense. Average offense and pretty good defense, we win. Kids are mad and disappointed, feel they can play with anyone, that's a good thing. Tied it at 44, then a Freshman scores 5 of the next 7 during a 7-0 run, probably was the game right there. Maybe we'll get another shot at these guys in March.4 points -
Great effort. No shame. in it. Just dont let it go for naught. Need to go at least 4-1 in our next 5. We'll be favored in each.. Dont let it get us down. Regroup and prepare for Rutgers4 points

This is an important takeaway for me. Our wins against them previously seemed more fluky than anything. Last night even though we couldn't get over the hump, it felt like two pretty evenly matched opponents. This is the type of game we'll need to figure out how to win to make it to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.3 points

They had a banked in 3 and we couldn't buy one tonight. Credit to MSU, that's a National Title contender out there and they made like 3 big plays to beat us, but (and I am not a fan of moral victories don't get me wrong) we looked like we belonged out there on the court with them. I believe Izzo when he talked after the game about how much he liked our team. We have a pretty decent shot at winning the next 5 games. I say we go out there and get 'em all.3 points

I will also say that MSU played closer to their best than we played to our best... and we were right there the entire night.3 points

4 points, folks!! This is why you dont leave early. Support your team. Seriously, though: literally never any reason to leave early. You probably wont "beat the rush". Only reason would be if you had an event or work or something. 99% of the time you should stay.3 points -

A win tonight obviously will put us firmly in the Top 25 come Monday (likely #20 or 21). But I'll take it one step further. A win tonight will put us in the Top 25 for the remainder of the season when you consider our favorable schedule the next few weeks and the fact that once you hit #20 or so, the only thing that takes you out is an 0-2 week. Win tonight and we could finish out the year entirely in the Top 25!!!!!!!!!!!!2 points

Looking at NET rankings I think going 4-1 is possible, maybe even 5-0. What do you guys think? It's time that we got some bounces (and calls) to go our way and start a winning streak. @Rutgers 136 OSU 36 Wisconsin 22 @Illinois 99 Maryland 212 points

Huskers vs Illinois...
Red Don and one other reacted to Bugeaters1 for a topic
Freshmen have led or tied for the team lead in scoring in 11 of Nebraska’s 17 games. I didn't relize this stat. shows one of three things, that either the freshmen are really good. Two, that that upper classman are having a bad year. which I think is the case. Three is that the upperclassmen are looking to the freshmen to score because they are being game planed out of our game plan by the opponents.2 points -

Time wasn't going to be added back. It is the referee's judgment if and when to stop the clock in that situation. They chose to let time run off. They were probably slightly confused, thinking the game was over since so many fans were clogging the aisles attempting to leave early. In fact, I was literally praying we would win, just to show fans leaving early that in basketball, it isn't over until it is over. Oops, sorry for that last little rant.2 points -
A loss on the road to Rutgers or Illinois would be devastating and both would be possible if we don't bring our "A" game. Hopefully the senior leadership will prevent this unhappy possibility from happening.2 points

Pretty decent chance to get this thing to 3-3: Wed Jan 2 15 20 Maryland L, 74-72 65 Away 11-3 1-2 Sun Jan 6 13 31 Iowa L, 93-84 76 Away 11-4 1-3 Thu Jan 10 16 64 Penn St. W, 70-64 62 Home 12-4 2-3 Mon Jan 14 15 33 Indiana W, 66-51 64 Away 13-4 3-3 Thu Jan 17 11 3 Michigan St. L, 70-64 69 Home 13-5 3-4 Mon Jan 21 124 Rutgers W, 70-62 65 76% Away × And that would meet or beat most folks' expectations.
