I think you can blame a lot of the negativity on all the pro sports in that area. When people get paid to play a sport, the fans demand production. I would imagine that's why the Bluejay message board is so hate-filled...

  6. @Norm Peterson - Here ya go bud: 1. How explosive is he? Can he dunk effortlessly? Watching him in warm-ups and watching him generally operate throughout the beginning of the game, I didn’t think he had much explosion. Then, he caught a drop off pass after a steal, and drop-step/no dribble, dunked the absolute shit out of the ball- like one of Copeland’s Shaq-dunks. Had another good one hand cram after a steal towards the end of the game. He has a herky-jerky style to his game ala James Palmer, the kid from Boystown (that plays at Witchita State now), and Shavon Shields. 2. How smooth are his handles? Good enough. 3. What's his motor like? Dove for a couple loose balls, rebounded, seemed to play hard. 4. So, he hits at a high percentage; does the shot look good? (i.e., good form, quick, good release point, elevation on the jump, etc., such that it will translate to the next level.) He can stroke. But he didn’t look selfish at all, I didn’t think he took one bad shot all night. Shot looks good, not perfect or necessarily quick - but I find that a bit overrated. 5. Is he scoring at all three levels? Is he getting to the rim, can he pull up mid-range off the dribble, etc. Yep. He has an old man’s game. Will destroy church leagues after his playing days are over. We don't need another guard this year, but would he be willing to attend prep school for a year? I would never do that if I was a player or giving advice to a kid. Don’t risk injury or losing attention. Get the best offer you can and take it. Would he be willing to greyshirt? Same answer. So..... where’s he going or where should he go. First off, has UNO got a hold of this kid? Personally, I think they’d be insane not to snatch him up. Millard South was not very good. But let me put it this way, if I was not from Nebraska but you called me up and said, “hey fly in and watch this kid Nebraska’s got committed and tell me what you think.” I’d answer you, “Dang he’s pretty good, was the best player on that court easily. Looks like ya got a good one!” I’d say his biggest knock is he has the game and thickness of a 6’7” 3-man, but is only like 6’4”, 6’5” (and didn’t seem to be a particularly long 6’5” - but I could be wrong). I dunno bros! Love me some instate kids!!! I’d love to hear @Jacob Padilla ‘s take.

So it will be tough. Haven't seen them play......away game...we liked away games last year.

Agree - they can really rebound, so we'll struggle there. Fernando is a handful for anyone. But their 3-pt shooting is sporadic, so I think we can really shut that down. One key will be staying in front of Cowen on defense. He's been a handful for us in the past. However, he hasn't seemed as explosive with his first step this season to me in the few games I've seen, almost to the point where I was wondering if he was dinged up a bit, so that'll be an interesting match up. I remember when we went there 2 years ago on New Year's Day and the arena was completely dead. Hoping for a similar crowd Wednesday and a similar result. ?

  13. Well... 1st game at PBA in like 3-4 years. My last was Indiana at home in early conference play. Love that place. I’d be a season ticket holder if I lived here. Crowd- good turn out, but quieter. Lotssssss of families today. About what I expected. Didn’t get that free Runza. Oh well, gotta eat there anyways while I’m back! Play- about what I expectedly. After the first 2 minutes you could tell that this was just too fast of a speed for SWMS. Credit to them though... they could shoot. Roby Watch will be interesting heading to Wednesday. Wasn’t worried before the game as most tweets I saw said that it was just “precautionary.” Miles comments after had me a little worried though. Regular starters did great. Loved Tanners effort on the boards today. Unlike some... I like some of what I see from Thor. His mistakes are either due to trying too hard or not having a lot of PT. He has excellent vision. I feel he could be serviceable next year and the following year as a 5-10 MPG guy. I plan on getting tickets when we make the Tulsa regional. The grind starts Wednesday. Huge opportunity.

If they could bottle the last 12 minutes, look out! Good defense, limit the turnovers - the rest will usually take care of itself. Nice win.

  29. Better crowd than I expected. Lots of single gamers around my seats- Mostly families. Quiet crowd. Tanner gave us great rebounding effort. There was a time or three when a SW guy would dribble drive, run into Cope, kind a pick up his dribble, and have this “what now” look to him. I was actually impressed with a couple of the SW Minnesota guys, they had a couple of good shooters. Our overall length on defense will give many teams fits. I about went nuts when Johnny gathered himself and attempted the one handed tomahawk dunk. I also want to see Thorir do well. Seems to have a nice basketball IQ with some of his passes. Had one drive where he rifled a pass from under the basket in traffic out to JPJ who was wide open for a made three. That was nice. Brought some fellow Omaha fans and stopped at Honest Abe’s before the game. Had the 1809. Still full. GBR!!

  34. Boy, not certain whether that was a good win, or a ho-hum win or what. Let's just say it was a win. We now move on to our second season. - Sort of concerned that we seemed to settle for shots. They sort of shut the lane down on us, and I am not sure we worried about it. - Concerned with Isaiah's injury. What appears to be a minor strain, can linger. The dude simply struggles staying healthy. - I will somewhat disagree that we sleep walked through the first half. We simply couldn't hit our shots. For example Tom made a great move to the basket, but missed an easy lay-up. In the second half, we finished better. - We should have won this game by 30 to 40 points, and we did. That is a positive. - That had to be the quickest game we have ever played. One time out was taken, and there were very few free throws or play stoppages. We left a couple minutes AFTER the game ended and was still pulling out of the parking lot at 2:45 PM. Wowser. - Had a Noah sighting. - Lot of little kids at the game. It doesn't add to the game noise, but if they had a great experience, perhaps they will be Husker basketball fans forever. - Amir was present...Dachon and Kendrick were not. Amir looks a couple of weeks away from playing.

  35. I will give credit to SWMS. Solid D-2 team. I thought they were better than Mississippi Valley State. Certainly shot it better.

  36. One thing Tanner does really well is seal his man when our guys drive for layups. Kansas used to always do that to us, and I always screamed for an offensive foul to be called to no avail. Nice that we have a guy doing that now!

  37. When was the last time we went an entire calendar year without losing at home?
    1 point
  38. Yes this one did follow the script, lots of guys got to play, lots of guys put forth a solid effort (especially on D) given the level of competition. Now the rubber hits the road. I know 3 outta the next 4 are on the road, but ya know what? I expect us to WIN 3 outta those next 4 too!

a lot of that was due to getting to rim and making the shots. where as in the other three quaters we were missing the layups. One other BIG STAT is the FT% if we shoot our normal 60% we don't do so well.

The plus minus is a very good tool but you can’t read too much into it especially in one game. Can depend heavily on who is in with you and who is in for the other team when u r in. Ie) if other teams best player is in foul trouble and out during my 6 minutes I might get a good plus minus because my team took the lead but not have really done that much personally. Or maybe I play great and make 3 great passes for open looks but we don’t make them and other team catches up I get a negative but played well. I believe it’s more useful when u look for trends over multiple games. — note in my hypotheticals I rarely play much because I am terribly out of shape.

Wow!!!! What A Game (So sorry I had to miss it but I recorded it to watch this morning. Imagine my disappointment when I couldn't find Matt & Jeff's broadcast to sync with BTN - I guess NeuLion hasn't archived it yet. ).During the Fourth Quarter the Ladies were playing with their I think we can expect a lot more of the same during conference play. Leadership seems to be gelling and this Team can light it up real quick when they are 'ON.' One thing we already know is; They Never QUIT! Well, it's off to watch the Men's game vs Southern Minnesota. (on BTN Plus no less!)
