    Because it never get's old

Dick Vitale jumped the shark 20 years ago. Now he's unwatchable. All he has done on broadcasts so far this year as far as I can tell is plug his latest book. Also, as far as I can tell it's been many years since he's done a game from anywhere other than the Dean Smith Center, Cameron Indoor, Rupp Arena or Phog Allen field house. Which, IMO, is too bad for the fans of UNC, Duke, UK and Kansas because they have to suffer through his inane crap for nearly every home game, but good for the rest of us because we get real, professional broadcasters doing our games. Except for those poor bastards in Pac 12 country that have to suffer through listening to Bill Walton ramble on about whatever it is he rambles on about.

The way it was explained in another D1 v D2 regular season game broadcast that I saw a few weeks ago is it is an official game for the D1 team; it counts towards the regular season record and the stats are counted as regular season stats and so on. But for the D2 team the game is counted as one of their exhibition games. Which makes sense because we've already had our "secret" scrimmage and exhibition games, therefore we have no available slots for exhibition games.

  9. I keep seeing this (and I would have guessed it, too), so I wanted to put some numbers to it and prove it out. I took a pretty simple (quick) approach by summing the top 5 PORPAGATU! numbers on each team. This has a few caveats - biggest ones being 1) this is an offensive only metric and 2) it's possible that the top 5 on each team isn't necessarily the starters. But putting those aside, our top 5 is #9 in the country. 1. Gonzaga (Clarke, Norvell Jr, Hachimura, Perkins, Jones) 23.5 2. Nevada (Johnson, Martin, Caroline, Martin, Thurman (from Omaha)) 21.5 3. Purdue (Edwards, Cline, Eifert, Boudreaux, Eastern) 20.0 4. Tennessee (Williams, Schofield, Bone, Alexander, Bowden) 19.9 5. Iowa State (Haliburton, Jacobson (Michael), Shayok, Weiler-Babb, Horton-Tucker) 19.9 6. Duke (Williamson, Barrett, White, Jones, Reddish) 19.9 7. Villanova (Booth, Gillespie, Paschall, Cosby-Roundtree, Bey) 19.4 8. TCU (Bane, Robinson, Miller, Fisher, Noi) 19.4 9. Nebraska (Palmer, Watson, Copeland, Allen, Roby) 19.1

my gosh, purdue...auburn 56-purdue 7 2nd quarter. anyway, i think cain can limit thome as long as she stays out of foul trouble. thome will get some points, but, don't think she does huge damage. may be wrong, but, think thome is averaging around 9ppg? the one stat i will be watching is michigan's second/third chance opportunities---because they are a good rebounding team. drive safe for those that may be traveling to the game!!!

    In state kids?

He's 6'5" and one of the best 3-point shooters in the state. I'd be curious to see what @basketballjones thinks. I can see why/how a kid could fly under the radar. Questions I'd want to know answers to are: 1. How explosive is he? Can he dunk effortlessly? 2. How smooth are his handles? 3. What's his motor like? 4. So, he hits at a high percentage; does the shot look good? (i.e., good form, quick, good release point, elevation on the jump, etc., such that it will translate to the next level.) 5. Is he scoring at all three levels? Is he getting to the rim, can he pull up mid-range off the dribble, etc. We don't need another guard this year, but would he be willing to attend prep school for a year? Would he be willing to greyshirt?

  23. I’m an instate homer, always have been, so in an attempt to maintain my homerism - I’ll make this statement: if there’s a 6’5” guard/forward getting 23ppg game in class A - he probably deserves our attention (Central kid). I’m gonna go watch him over break, I’ll report back!

  26. Not worried about minutes. These are college kids. There have been plenty of Duke/Kansas type teams that don't go more than 6 or 7 deep. Far bigger concern is who fills a role if there is foul trouble. Getting Harris back will help reduce a few of those minutes too.

michigan and huskers aren't too far apart in most stats except for defensive rebounds and 3pt% defense. gonna need at least a decent night shooting because odds are they might not get too many second chances. haiby getting to the basket could be key---whether she finishes or is able to dish off (for the open look).

  37. I was thinking about this. Be interested to see B1G road records in first two games of conference play after January for the last 5 years. At any rate that’ll be two Quad 1 games with students away. Great opportunity for us!

But Thor has shown some flashes of things i like. Im sure the jump from Iceland ball to B1G ball is pretty significant. I will also root for him til he is no longer a Husker. GBR

  42. There is rarely if ever a “forget the in-depth game plan and just go out and play.” More time between games allows for more time to plan and implement but coaches are scouting for a game ahead of time and not waiting for the last one to get over. You diminish the work the coaches put in with statements like that. Teams that have a deeper understanding of the game can pick things up quicker and hopefully that’s what Nebraska has.

  43. Keep in mind, that's with Roby being in foul trouble a lot. If Roby wasn't a frequent object of officiating attention, that average probably moves north of 30.

  48. Indeed, and Patton's progress was remarkable and he ended up at 7'. Shanklin is 6'7" and his feel for the game is a significant obstacle. Go actually watch him play a game and you'll see where I'm coming from. Shanklin's frame is better but if you're looking for 2020 bigs with upside Max Murrell at Millard North is much farther along (and even he is pretty raw). Murrell has an offer from UMKC right now and has been to Purdue and Iowa. What was the point of that comment, AuroranHusker? I have watched him play many, many times. I was simply saying he's got a lot of work to do before he's anything more than an NAIA/D-II prospect (which is what he currently is).
