  1. The whole part about not wanting to keep the coach that will have taken us to two of the only NCAA tournaments since 2000. Then making it sound like we can hire the next Bill Self when Miles leaves and we’d be just fine.

  2. Maybe I'm just a glass half full sort of guy but I think a close loss like this makes us more, not less dangerous this Saturday.

  3. This probably won't be the last one we don't close on the road. You have to hope this team can learn from it and not let games like this beat us twice. We're a team that projects to lose 10 games and still make the tourney with a decent seed so this season should be a rollercoaster. Make sure to enjoy the ups when the happen because the downs will be big.

  4. It's the pet peeve of mine again. No idea what a foul is or is not a foul. One trip you brush a guy, it is a foul. The next trip you get to tackle the guy with no foul. The blown goaltend. For all the rough calls, we needed to go to zone. We got outcoached.

  5. Going into this game, I wasn't expecting to win so I would have considered this icing on the cake. However, since we had a double digit lead on several occasions and lead for 37 minutes, it's kind of tough to take. Roby missing a chippy after a nice take and T Allen missing the front end which would have kept it a two possession lead were big plays. JPJ was not himself this evening, on both the offensive and defensive ends. Cope did not get enough touches in the last 5 minutes and we were horrible stopping dribble penetration. Offense stalled too much down the stretch. We looked very good for 35 minutes, but it's little consolation because we were so out of sorts in crunch time. A win Saturday would go a long way to ease the pain of this one.

  7. Woke up this morning and wasn’t as disappointed. A few of my thoughts. 1. I know a lot of people say that we cannot blame referees for losses. A few items I guess for me on this topic... if it directly affects points than it directly affects the game. Goaltend and shotclock issues is 5 points. Copeland gets bodied up and should of had an And-1 and no foul called which would be 6. The crap tech meant 8. I get that we probably blew it. Didn’t get to watch but the last 8 minutes. However, referees played an outcome on the game last night. Was it us or the refs? Probably a combination of both. But that is too much. Refs shouldn’t ever even play a “combination” in whether a team wins or loses. We need to open up review for egregious mistakes the ENTIRE game and not just the last two minutes or whatever. The goaltend and shot clock violation were egregious. The other two calls were subjective I guess. 2. I get Minnesota isn’t just the cream of the crop, but they aren’t bad. Top to bottom, this league will battle each night. I said it already... there is no shame in losing a road game, but it’s how we lost it. There is still everything in front of us. 3. This win doesn’t move the needle in whether we are a tournament team or not. Sure it may, for the short term, move the needle on whether we are a Top 25 team or what seed we are. However, we have 22 games to go. Twenty-Two!!!! Take a step back from the ledge and realize that we are 7-2. 4. Biggest thing this loss does is take away the possibility of reaching 30 regular season wins. That’s it.

  8. Trying to find the goaltending clip and came across - The Kalscheur "chicken wing" on Watson because no one is really looking for Kalscheur to push off and Watson isn't trying to defend by falling over. Palmer has the offensive foul stink on him so defenders will look to fall over and he has to correct. - I'd forgotten about the steal that Watson got and when trying to save it the ball ended up going back to the Gophers with numbers instead of a breakaway dunk for us. Big 4 point swing there. - The tech on Copeland where Minnesota gets two free points When we're talking about not putting the game away there is 4 gifted points from the technical FTs and the goal tend. We lost that game because they blew past us on their home court, not because we aren't the better team. Better teams lose sometimes.

  9. 1. Minnesota is a much improved team. They are not bad. 2. That being said, they are not good. They are a bottom 4 Big 10 team. 3. We are more talented and more experienced. 4. We controlled the game and found ways to lose. Inexcusable loss. 5. Creighton is a must win. Resume wise, we certainly have time to recover if we'd lose. I'm more concerned about psyche

  10. Poor coaching in the sense that it was very clear Palmer could not stop Coffey, and yet he continued to guard him get beat and causes others to get cheap fouls. Copeland disappeared down the stretch. Started missing FT down the stretch Palmer shooting 3-14 is not going end well most nights. Twice we had Brady on the pick and roll and threw the ball at his feet. The iffy T and missed goal tending were killers

  12. We made mistakes, but call the game for Coffey as they do for Palmer and he looks like a benchsitter, Just stopped calling anything against him after the 3rd foul, not one foul called after the half...nonsense...2 foulss on "Shoulders" Murphy ...nonsense

  14. It’s a great sign that the sky is falling after an early road loss to a formidable conference opponent who was playing for infinitely more than a simple home win. Say whatever you want about the loss, but this panicky nature is solid evidence program expectations have been raised to a hell of a lot higher level than they were before TM got here. I’ve actually seen enough good play last year AND this year to give TM my full support moving forward. Give the guy a chance to coach what he’s built. We’re going to win a lot of games. I wouldn’t dare change things considering what the expectations as a fan had been for, what, two decades now? Like it or not, your TM tears after THIS game indicate program success. The loss was an anomaly compared to the rest of the season so far.

  17. There are currently 9 of 14 Big Ten teams ranked in the Top 25. Sure, that will change over time, but this is not the same conference as last season. We'll have plenty of "significant win" opportunities. But yes, we probably should at least split the next two games if we don't want to make our lives difficult in 2019.

  18. I will admit that I am close to a Miles apologist. There are certain things here I agree with. Yes, our transition defense was atrocious all night and yes, I don't think we challenged at the rim like we could have. It would have been nice if someone was willing to take a charge tonight. I can understand the frustration with Miles. I would have loved us to use a timeout or two to settle the guys down at any point from the six minute to three or four minute mark. Palmer didn't bring it tonight, that's not all on Miles. He is a senior. However, I don't get why Miles didn't help Palmer. Switch defenses, bring him help when Coffey catches the ball. Do something! Doing nothing and expecting a different result saddled us with a loss. I put that on Miles but I certainly won't bail on him or the team . There is a lot of basketball left in the year and better days are ahead, specifically on Saturday. Let's shelve the fire Miles talk and support the team!

  19. Tough loss. I don't think that's the end of the world, but some problems from last year reared their heads again. Going long stretches without a FG. Or a solid look. The 1-3-1 seemed to work to end the half, I don't know why we didn't go back to it to close the game. That was a big boy game for Amir Coffey. Which killed us. And effected JPJ on the offensive end. Brady REALLY impressed me. Very active and kept the ball high. We need to come out Saturday, punch Creighton in the mouth and show that they are learning from mistakes. These next two are going to be huge for us resume and confidence wise.

  21. I can't for the life of me figure out why we didn't change up defenses. Minnesota has struggled against the zone but if you are afraid Coffey is going to dribble through it, stay in man and run another guy at him when he catches the ball. Make someone else beat you!

    KANSAS GAME THREAD

Caveat — i never used the word selfish. I consider selfish to mean intentional. I don’t think anyone is being intentionally selfish. I think it is normal youthful misunderstand of what it takes to have a successful team Every girl at this level was the star in high school (even more so than guys) so they all assume they have to shoot right away to impact the game because that was always their job growing up . It takes them a bit to learn that you defend, rebound, and value the ball your way in to more minutes as that earns trust. They will score in the flow if they will concentrate on the other stuff first.

  27. Crap people, the game is over, move on. The loss does not mean we are horrible, but it was a bad loss in my mind. You have to overcome obstacles in games like that, and with our senior leadership, I thought we would of, could of and should of. But we didn't, so I consider it a bad loss. That said, it was a tier one game and we have to learn from it and move on. Hard to do, I know it, but we play again this weekend, and we need to come out and smoke a pretty decent team. By the way, Minnesota IS NOT a bad team. They have beaten Okie State, Utah, Washington and Texas A & M and their losses were to Ohio State and Boston College on the road. So again, we should have found a way to win, but we didn't...we have to move on.

  28. If we lose on Saturday, we’ve got to shut this board down for a week. Promise?

  29. Right now they are projected to finish 11th. That’s a team we should smoke at home hopefully.

  30. Exactly...I can't believe we don't get Copeland the ball at the end of games. Hell, more during the game. He is money from deep and mid-range off of a turnaround. He can pump fake that and get to the rack as well after he drains a few. Copeland needs to be getting the looks in crunch time.

  31. That was a tough one and gonna hurt for awhile. Although a win Saturday would be a good salve. A lot of big plays a calls. But I think one that could be overlooked was TA missing the front end late. I think we had a 3 point lead. He makes both and we're back up to 5, stop the bleeding, and maybe we hang on. Instead it was the dreaded and familiar feeling of "uh oh, here we go". I called game when he missed it. Might not be fair but it was pretty big.

  32. Bottom half is probably accurate but bottom 4. I don't think so. They have Curry coming back in a couple weeks also

  33. My objection is that it wasn't consistent. Coffey and Murphy were pushing off on offense and bodying defensively and they got 5 fouls combined. Roby plays an athletic and graceful game and get 5 himself.

  34. No 1-3-1 in the second half? I thought we rolled that out to protect some of our guys in foul trouble. I wonder if that will be asked in the post game. Palmer had no business guarding Coffey. A step, or two, slow all night on the kid. I guess I'm not sure who he would have switched with though. Long season, lets get'em on Saturday. BIG is going to be a grinder this year.

  35. Guys, I’m on a plane from Phoenix and it was killing me so I bought the WiFi. Just followed along this game thread. First time in a long time I haven’t been able to watch the game live on tv or in person. I must say, I’m not nearly as angry, simply because I didn’t see all of the garbage calls and scoring drought. Unfortunately, we are not a team that can afford to pee games away if we are in control. That being said, we beat CU, Cal State, Ok-State, and SW Minnesota, we are still heading into the meat of our conference with a good start-

  36. these bogus charge calls on Palmer are getting old!!! man it pisses me off!!! takes him completely out of his game, I don't think any have been the correct call either.. Frustrating loss, this one will sting for awhile that's for sure. I'm not sure what happened to our defense but we had no answer for Coffey..

  38. Say what you want about officiating but Nebraska has absolutely no one else to blame but themselves. Too many lulls on offense. Let Amir Coffey look like the best player in basketball. And they were not clutch at the FT line when it mattered (TA missed the front end of one and one and Glynn split a pair). Hopefully they come out with a fire under their @$$ against Creighton and play hard for a full 40 minutes.

  39. I almost have to put this on Miles. He rolled out the same defense on Coffee the entire game. I mean the last ten minutes he was there whole offense and it couldn’t have been any worse than it ended up.
