  1. The big east has to be considered a mid major because no power conference can have officials that bad.

  2. I just want to throw out there publically that Tanner gives us so much more than I thought he was capable of a couple of years a ago and Brady had done nothing to embarrass himself. He’s playing at a much higher level then I thought he could. What we are getting is two serviceable bigs and I think that’s all we will need from them.

  3. #25 Huskers throttle Seton Hall 80 - 57 Phantom foul and needless clock stoppage awaken the crowd and the Huskers That game went largely as I expected. This team is pretty good, folks. It’ll be even better when Roby isn’t starting in a production of Phantom of the Opera. - Glynn is playing at an incredible level right now. He was unbelievable to start this game. - I hope you/we/I appreciate this collection of talent on this team. It's not a perfect team and there are still things to work on but if this is our starting point, we could be in for an amazing year. - I loved, loved, loved how the team responded after the Phantom call on Roby. That could have buckled lesser teams. I've seen it take the legs out of NU teams in the past. - This team has a killer instinct. - PBA was great tonight, especially in the second half when things got weird. - Heiman and Borchardt looked fairly effective tonight. Knew where to be, didn't back down. That's all we need from them. - I'm not sure I've ever seen a dunk by a Husker the likes of what I witnessed from Roby tonight. Goodness, gracious! - Why did we have a four minute delay to adjust the clock two seconds? - The officiating tonight was as brutal as I've ever seen. Just obnoxious. - The 3 point shooting probably won't be great this season, but I think it will be effective. They are so good at getting to the line, especially JPJ and our defense should be really good that they can afford to not be elite from deep. - Seton Hall had no answer for JPJ tonight. Je just took over the second half. It was a sight to behold. - I haven't looked at a box score yet, but I thought we rebounded pretty well. - I'm just so freaking excited about what we saw tonight. The ceiling for the team is super high. I can't wait to see what this team becomes. View full article

  4. Heiman due to all of the above. Yet after all that, he stepped up against a solid interior and did passably (which was all we needed). He could be pretty darn good in a couple years. LONG way to go and some growing pains yet but for another night anyway he looked good.

  6. Fair warning: If this season goes the way it's setting up to go, I'm going to be dropping some cuss words in game threads, out of game threads, on top of threads, all over threads. I'm going to drop the MOAFB. It's going to be epic.

  7. Tim Miles is going to get fined based on what he said in the postgame. Kent and Jake were kind of tiptoeing around asking about that phantom foul on Roby, and Miles answered "Which one?!" (Laughter.) And it just kind of went from there. Nobody call the league office. Burn the tape. This didn't happen. Oh, you mean that? Um, that was .... Norm Peterson doing his best Tim Miles impersonation. Coach didn't really dump on the officials (who really deserved to be dumped on.)

  8. It would have been 47-38 with that try by Palmer; instead it ended up being 44-40 and them having the ball out of bounds. But they pissed off James Palmer, and you don't want to make James Palmer angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

  9. We are still #1 in the country in effective field goal percentage defense at 28.4%. Meanwhile, our effective field goal percentage on offense is 59.1%, good for #36.

  10. Still not time to start Brady but man, he did not look overmatched in his action against a physical Seton Hall tonight. He is going to give us quality minutes all year and the future is exceptionally bright for him.

    Rarefied Air

The last time we had a team in the NCAA tourney discussion in November was a full generation ago. This is rarefied air for us. Make sure you breath it in and plenty of it. You don't know when you'll see it happen again.

  12. Random thoughts in no particular order. 1. Brady is going to be very very good one day. He is already good enough to give me more confidence that we miss Jordy very much, as the lane does not get clogged up at they very least. 2. Our defense is sensational right now. Not only are we making good rotations, we are really creating havoc. 3. We are playing very hard. 4. The staff did a tremendous job with the rotation. There have been many times in the past where we struggled. Not last night. Our guys are in good shape. They can play big minutes in games that require them to. 5. Palmer has got to get that shot straightened out. It is not terribly repeatable at this time. Needs to just do a bit more of a set shot type three pointer. They have to respect his drive so much that he can still get it off easily. 6. Watson shot looks much more fluid than against Wayne St. The time he is putting in with the new coach is paying off. And it isn't just because they are going in. They whole thing looks better. 7. We need to beat the living shit out of Creighton. It is time to treat this damn game like they do.

  14. I appreciate this moment and what this history means, I'll enjoy it... However: We cant just see a good season like this as an anomaly we have to enjoy while its here. I understand because of the misery we've experienced as husker fans, but in my opinion as fans and as a program, the attitude and mood around here has to change! Enough of this loser mentality, we have to find 20 wins and some national attention more of a normality in the state, and start to string these seasons together so that we can actually build a successful program and attract talent. Of course, that doesnt mean getting ahead of ourselves and expecting crazy standards like in football. I love where we are as nebrasketball and everything that means, including how special this all all feels, and how much we value heart hustle and hard work in our players and a high standard of fan support (side note, I'm a bit worried about some of the bad fans we attract when we find success, but I suppose that's to be expected. that's also another topic for another day) In the end, we should enjoy this! But dont think this is a one and done. I believe in tim and everyone involved, the AD and the direction we're going. Time to accept success. (This all isnt meant as an attack on you btw, just pointing out something I feel is an important detail)

  18. Wow. Big East playing like a mid-major conference tonight. More of the same to come tomorrow, I'd imagine. Although I now can see why Big East fans are so obnoxious. If I had to put up with the officiating we saw in Lincoln in every game, I'd be a pissed-off jerk all of the time too.

  19. Let's put this one in perspective. we just ho-hummed a 22 point win over a top 50ish team with roby barely doing anything. yeah, it was at home. yeah jpj put on a clinic after his first 7 shots or so... but well... we just ho-hummed a 22 point win over a top 50ish team with roby barely doing anything. we are legit, guys. looking forward to monday.

  21. After a nights sleep, a few other thoughts: - I believe we only had 8 turnovers. This, against a decent defense that put on passive pressure and switched defenses seamlessly. I am impressed. We have good ball handlers and we take care of the ball despite playing with good tempo. That makes me very happy. - The refs still suck after a night of thinking about it. Some of their calls were simply guesses. And what was with the one ref who was always high-stepping down the court??? - I guess I am sort of in the minority when I worry about minutes. Heck yeah, the players are in great shape. But playing major minutes, especially over the span of a season can and does affect the legs, and shots. I think if Isaiah is not in foul trouble, Isaac is not on the floor for 39 minutes. I also believe as the season progresses, Amir will see the floor more than 7 minutes per game. I think those minutes will be better managed in most of our games moving forward. But an additional thought. This season is make-it or break-it for Coach Miles and this staff. The coaches know it, the players know it, and the fans know it. Wins are a must. - Here is a news flash...we have some high flying players. Who here doesn't believe we will be making more appearances on the ESPN plays of the day? - And yes, the refs from last night still suck!

  22. I thought Tanner and Brady were ok. I mean they aren’t big name recruits with high upside... They didn’t miss 5 layups and have 4 turnovers on 10 touches. So I guess there is that. Addition by subtraction.

  23. The last 10 minutes were a blast. They could not stop James from getting to the basket. Our ceiling is much, much higher than we saw tonight. Heck, we did most of our damage despite Roby being on the bench. Good contributions by almost everyone. I was impressed with the hustle plays by Brady. They switched Harris over to guard Nelson after he got in the lane a few times and Amir did a nice job. His length really bothered him. Tanner was always in the right position on both sides of the floor. Glynn held us together offensively early on. SH confused us a bit by changing defenses, but we eventually adjusted. We are a much better team when both the ball and players are moving. Feels good to have a 23 point win over a non-conference opponent from a power conference.

  24. Felt like that whole clown show ignited the crowd and the team. We outscored them by 19 over the last 13 minutes. Taurean Thompson absolutely imploded tonight....part of the reason we were able to live with Roby in phantom foul trouble. Tanner and Brady had to step up tonight and they were up to it. It seemed like after Palmer had that FT bounce around to the point that Nana was running up the court that he settled in and started playing like JPJ. Had as many makes at the Pirates at the FT line. Copeland was the statistical MVP of the game. Double-double and his shot was wet. He's very good at defending without fouling. Watson is locked in. This is going to be a special year. It turns out that "shorten the rotation" is code for Thor isn't going to play

  25. No. Most good teams play their core lots of minutes. Worrying about playing guys minutes is a farce. There have been a lot of Duke and Kansas teams that won 30+ games that only played 6-7 guys.

  32. I think there's hope if a guy works on it. I mean, here's my frame of reference. Have always said I'm no expert, just a guy with an opinion. I didn't play college ball but I played a lot of ball in college, if that makes sense. My shot used to suck (and it does again thanks to age.) I completely (and I mean completely) overhauled it as a freshman in college ON MY OWN. Without coaching, without cameras to film myself, etc. I just knew I didn't like my shot and it needed to get better. So, I started watching the guys who I thought shot the ball really well and tried to figure out what they were doing differently. One of the things I did wrong was my right elbow was not in good alignment with my target line. And my left hand was also not working correctly in concert with my right, so it was almost a two-hand push rather than a shot. I worked on my wrist-snap, I worked on my follow through. I worked on getting my right elbow in. I worked on the feel of the shot starting in your feet and as your knees bend to gather for the jump, the ball starts moving upward fluidly through the shot. I worked on all of that. So, say I'm walking into the Rec Center and I'm going to play basketball. The windows on the doors to the Rec are like you have a full-length mirror, right? What does my shot look like? Practice my jumper while seeing my reflection in the window. Is my elbow in? What does my follow-through look like? Is that what it's supposed to look like? And I got to the point -- without playing major college basketball and having hours to work on your shot with coaches in practice -- where I was a pretty decent shooter. So I know it can be done because I DID IT. I don't want to hear people say mechanics don't matter because manifestly they do. I don't want to hear people say they can't be changed once you're in college because they can be. I don't want to hear people say don't fiddle with it because you'll mess it up. Mess it up any worse than it already is? For Amir Harris? I don't think so. Anyway, in my humble opinion, he can fix it. He just has to be determined to break his bad habits and do it.

  35. The answer to the trivia question about who had the best single-season 3-point percentage of any Husker player in the last 15 seasons (including this one) was JR Strowbridge in 2006-07. He shot 46.3% from beyond the arc as a true freshman on 25 of 54 shooting.

  36. The question is who got screwed more Roby or Borchardt? I have to say there were tons of bad calls all one sided too, but we didn't buckle and still won by 20+ Two fouls "need" to be looked at by the NCAA. The 4th foul on Roby and the hustle play by Borchardt

  37. The last time Nebraska had three senior starters: 2012-2013 Brandon Ubel Dylan Talley Andre Almeida I love nearly every Husker (Looking at you AW3), but you can't compare: 2018-2019 James Palmer Glynn Watson Isaac Copeland It's a new day.

  39. The moral of the game for me is that even when this team struggles offensively, their defense is absolutely nasty and will keep them in any game. Then, when the offense gets rolling, look out, because you blow the doors off teams like we did in the second half. I hope this team realizes how good they can be ?

  45. There isn't a 5 in all of college basketball who can even remotely guard Roby. That's the mentality we have to have with our starting lineup. The fact Roby can hang with opposing 5s in the defensive post and then ruin their lives on the other end and in transition is an enormous advantage for us we need to exploit on a nightly basis. Having said that, I've seen two games with Brady now, good competition or not. I don't think he's a redshirt candidate at all. He's already better than Jordy. BH looks like he's already up to about 220, and he's a lot more athletic than some want to give him credit for. He fits very well in TM's offense. That's the best looking true freshman center we've had since... who? Someone from the 90s probably? Venson Hamilton? As for sliding anyone down to the 2, I think Tom is playing pretty damned well, and shooting 45% from three so far. He looks mightily improved on the defensive end as well. I'm thinking the lineup shakes out like this by the end of the year: GWIII - AH TA - AH JPJ - AH Cope - Nana Roby - BH/Tanner ^^^ AH is really proving his versatility as a defender. He's a real luxury for us this season. I think he and TA each get 20min a game this year. Nana looks great at the 4. It's shaking out very well. I personally think BH is a better player than Tanner already, but they both look serviceable.
