  1. "It sure sounds like?" Does that mean you read something on this board or you heard Coach Miles say something? This is the problem trying to read the future. The board was wrong about Tai for years when projecting his future. If you look back at the beginning of last year JPJ was underwhelming to many after the first scrimmage. Does anyone actually have any evidence that Thor is going anywhere except many think he probably won't be able to help the team and assume he will be or they simply want him gone? That might be exactly what happens but it might be way too early to jump to any conclusions or totally write anyone off. Maybe I'm just soft but I feel uncomfortable throwing college kids (no matter how athletic they are kids) under the bus without any real evidence. If you want to disparage Jordy not being a team player I'm on board with that because that is what the evidence shows. Thor did not look like a world-beater last night and honestly, I watched quite a few of his games this summer with Iceland and was disappointed in what I saw in the way of progress. Part of that had to do with the entire team seemingly having no discipline with shot selection, meaning everyone took bad shots but I digress. I know people's opinions are what these boards are for but, I think we should be able to look ahead without walking over the bodies of those who are already here. I'm too excited about the coming season to get pulled into negativity already. Let's save that for the first crisis after we lose our first game before we start writing people off.

Appreciate the support, but Miles isn't "supposedly" on the hot seat. He is absolutely unequivocally sitting right on it. Moos has made that absolutely clear, including some unfortunate recent comments shortly before the fall signing period. Folks can debate whether he should be on it, but he's on it. And if the team succeeds sufficiently to take him off of it, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a big extended middle finger right back. Wouldn't blame him at all.

  5. As a junior, he helped Blue Valley West to the first round of the state tournament and a 15-8 record while posting nearly 16 points and six rebounds per game. Okay, this bio isn't from Zane Meek's bio, since he went to Shawnee Mission East in suburban Kansas City, Kansas and not Blue Valley West in suburban Kansas City, Kansas, and Shawnee Mission East went 14-10 and not 15-8. This is from Brandon Ubel's bio.

  6. HUSKER HOOPS CENTRAL CHALLENGE IS BACK! The season is fast approaching; much faster than last season as we're tipping off the first game 5 days sooner than we did a year ago. The temperatures are plunging, the leaves are falling, and the baskets this season will hopefully be dropping. Believe it or not, we're only one week until November and 12 days away from the opening game tip-off! Could you be more excited that Nebraska basketball is preseason ranked this year? Yes. Because, I've got an offer you can't refuse. For all you regulars and all you newcomers, the Husker Hoops Central Challenge is back at it again! Whether you've played every season or you've never played before; whether you made your picks since Game 1 or you're just not starting halfway through the season; whether you're here to prove you're smarter than Ken Pomeroy or you're just here to beat everyone else on the board, then this is the place for you. Seriously, the more people, the better. And if you're reading this in January, I've seen people join in late in the season and still make a deep run on the leaderboard, so don't let that deter you. Besides, this year I'm told that Dimes is going to put $1,000 of his own money in the pot to be divvied out to the top winners at the end of the season.* * This is not true; Dimes never once agreed or was even aware of such a thing, but it doesn't hurt to try This is where legends and leaders are born. Bragging rights are on the line. Don't live a life 10 years from now thinking, "Boy, I wish I had played in that HHCC game back in 2018-2019." But seriously, this game is fun and it's a great way to kill time throughout a roller coaster course of a season. The rules are the same as last year with more opportunities to earn some bonus points throughout the season. Last year's Top 10 finishers were: 1 jimmykc 2 Husker4Life 3 hhcdimes 4 AuroranHusker 5 HB 6 ConkintheCorner 7 aphilso1 8 HuskerFever *9 KenPom 9 trickey 10 Buglem Now let's go out, have a blast, and enjoy this season for what it may be. Game on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HHCC SCORING AND RULES If you want to be part of the HHCC, all you need to do is guess the score of each game. Participants with at least one entry will be included in the overall standings. There will be a thread available following the completion of the previous game. Scoring is based on how close you were to each team's actual point total and the margin of victory. HHCC GAME SCORING: The object of the game is to have the lowest accumulated points at the end of the year. Scoring is taken from three variables (margin of victory, actual score, correct game winner); with possible bonus points. Margin of Victory: This is how many points either team wins by. Scoring: Difference between Actual MoV (Husker score & Opponent score) Predicted MoV (Predicted Husker score & Predicted Opponent score). This is then multiplied by 2. Bonus: There is a -5 bonus for correctly predicting margin of victory. To get the bonus two things must happen. 1. Your margin of victory must match the actual margin of victory. 2. You picked the correct winner. EXAMPLE Prediction: NU 79 Opponent 72 Actual: NU 72 Opponent 62 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (Actual (72 62) = 10 - Predicted (79-72) = 7) = 3 * 2 = 6 MoV = 6 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Actual Score: This is the final point totals of both teams. Scoring: (Predicted Husker score vs. Actual Husker score) + (Predicted Opponent score Actual Opponent score) Bonus: There is a -5 bonus for correctly predicting either the Huskers score or the opponents. EXAMPLE Prediction: NU 79 Opponent 72 Actual: NU 72 Opponent 62 ------------------------------------------ (79 72) + (62 72) 7 + 10 = 17 ------------------------------------------ Game Winner: Picking the correct winner. Scoring: Zero points for correct winner. 20 point penalty for incorrect choice. The final score for this game would be 23. Correctly predicting the actual game score nets all -5 bonuses and a -25 bonus, for a best possible score of -40. Missed Game: Your score for missing a game is (the highest score of picked games + 25 points). End of year: Your highest score will be subtracted from your final point total. No Games Missed equals a -25 bonus to your final score. HHCC RULES: All new HHCC game threads will be posted following the previous game. The first game will be up after the last exhibition game. Post your prediction in the HHCC thread. All predictions must be in by the scheduled tipoff time (noted in the thread's title). Any corrections to your prediction should be done in the HHCC game thread. If you are unable to edit your score, just quote your previous score and post the new score underneath. All score updates will be posted throughout the season.

At the beginning of the year Anton really exceeded my expectations. I thought he would be rusty and perhaps a shadow of his old self due to his injuries. But he really was good for us. He tailed off towards year end though. We lost four contributors from last years squad and are replacing them with a lot of inexperience. In a major part, that is why I am concerned with our depth.

  12. I only saw the scrimmage before the scrimmage. Agreed that the top 5 are very good. Thomas will benefit by playing with several guys who can take defenders off the dribble. If they leave him to help, he will get open shots (and will likely make them at a higher rate than Anton did last year). The optics say that Nana has really taken a step forward. He has a nice stroke and looks explosive and athletic. My question is whether he can handle the ball out on the floor, but if he can adequately guard stretch 4's and is playing with enough other ball handlers, that may not be such a big deal. Amir Harris is an x-factor. He had a very athletic play in the pre-scrimmage where he took it baseline and tried to flush it two-handed over a defender. Looks like he can handle the ball and could finish at the rim, but as others have pointed out, his shot is shaky (it needs to be re-constructed). Hopes are that he can be a positive contributor, especially on the defensive end, by January 1. No doubt in my mind Tanner will play and will have to provide interior defense (especially if Zay or Cope are in foul trouble). Brady has some athleticism, but he needs to add some muscle. If he could eventually spot the 4/5's for 3-4 minutes per half, that would be a huge plus. Last year, I was pleasantly surprised with Thor, but he didn't look great last night. Perhaps it was just an off night, but from the looks of it, Nana took a giant stride forward and Thor did not. I won't give up on Chan as an eventual contributor, but it doesn't look like that will happen this year. He actually showed the ability to handle the ball in some pre-scrimmage drills, and his frame is much sturdier than what I saw on tape. My guess is he's a bit lost scheme-wise, and he has a way to go to adjust to the basketball played on this level. Dachon is gonna be a good one. Wish he could play this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's the next all-big ten-type transfer player from Nebraska. I enjoy reading everybody's input here. It's good to watch basketball again. GBR!!

Wasn't sure where to put this, but how about the job Miles and his staff are doing recruiting!!! I mean for a guy whom is supposedly on the hot seat he has really done an incredible job this last 4-5 months recruiting for 2019 and beyond.. I hope Moos awards him and gives him the extension he deserves!! No doubt his recruiting seems to continue to improve and he has established a niche with transfers coming here and being successful that can continue to help us down the road. I really like what his staff is doing also and just hope we can keep them on board, but sooner or later I believe Lewis is going to get a head coaching job. I'm hopeful we can all have the season that Miles and all the Nebrasketball fans deserve this year and Miles can get his extension and shut up all the doubters.. #GBR

Like Miles said earlier, i believe atleast 3 of the "Fab Four" will be on the court at all times in most cases. So whoever is in from the bench wont be expected to do much except play solid defense and convert easy scoring opportunities.

Wasn’t it Lee Barf that said Nana was one of the best Husker shooters he has seen in practice? If so...there has to be a spot for him to get some minutes. This team is probably going to struggle some again from deep so anything helps. He could possibly fill Anton Gill’s role.

    Next Year *Trigger Warning

The reality is that we have all of our scholarships filled for 2020 which means we can't sign another kid for either 2019 or 2020 without either losing someone on scholarship or someone who has committed. The other reality is that we are actively recruiting post players for 2019 and 2020 because frankly we don't have enough. While I agree in your assessment that we don't know how people will develop we're having this conversation because ultimately it appears at least one person or commit for 2019-20 won't be here.

As usual, Coaches Kid dissects things pretty well. I agree totally about Nana and Thor. Last year, I was pleasantly surprised by Thor and thought he looked like the better player. Nana appears to have taken a much bigger step forward, though. Thor's shooting is still not very good and it should have gotten better over the off-season. During the drills when they separated by position group, Thor was air-balling his set-shot jumper thing and generally missing badly. I agree about Tanner playing. We'll need him. I think he looked quicker out there.

Got a chuckle out of your description, Kid. I have a vague recollection of Tim Miles describing Nana, when he committed, as a more-athletic Andrew White. And your description, Kid, seems on-point with that comparison.

Absolutely. Your market value is what someone will pay. Brian Bowen's market value was $100k from Adidas. The market value for Syracuse decommit Darius Bazley is minimally $200k for a year and potentially $14 mil over 5 years
