  1. Hi Karrington. Apparently, you check this board. That's awesome. We're happy to have you. Welcome to Husker Nation! And welcome to HHC (feel free to PM me with your screen name and I'll keep it just between the two of us.) Apparently, @aphilso1 and I are the only ones on this board who think you might make the regular playing rotation this year. And about that, I need a small favor from you, actually. Make the top 8 rotation for me, would you please? Pull through on that one, OK? I need to re-establish some board cred after that episode where I said we shouldn't waste a scholarship on Terran Petteway. Thanks, man. I'll owe you one. Top 8. We're good, right?

Just trying to be realistic...... Right off the bat, we have a great 5 or 6 starter quality kids no doubt. But......that's not enough to get us through games, let alone the season. So, as I said the balance of the team will have to come through ASAP. The potential's there. The staff has it's hands full...maybe do every year as far as that goes. But our potential is very very good. The season seems a long way off. But it will be here just like Husker football in a week or so. GBR!!

  8. To be fair, if he had lived in Michigan at the time, he would have voted Nebraska number one. That vote was about proving his impartiality. Also to be fair, millions of people also thought Michigan was better than Nebraska. What those people had in common was that none of them knew much of anything about football. That said, much of the time I felt his work was commendable.

I don't know whether you're a 'Glass Half Full' or 'Glass Half Empty' type guy, Steve; But on the brighter side, We're returning Six very experienced players, all mainstays of last year's team: Maddie (Sr); Juniors Nicea, Hannah, & Grace; and Sophs Kate.& Taylor. Sr transfer Kristian Hudson, should be experienced and transition quickly into the line-up. That leaves the four incoming freshmen, all highly acclaimed and by some accounts representing a top 20 class. No doubt we'll miss Jaz, Janay & Emily; but the one that really hurts is losing Rachel this year for medical reasons (knees). A healthy Rachel would have been a valuable addition to have in this year's line-up. The schedule will be hard, and we won't be catching anybody 'asleep;' But it seems that we had just as difficult early schedule during Coach Amy's first year when we had to play several former NIT teams. No doubt there will be some hiccups, but if there is anything we know it's that this team has Heart! ? (Now as to pleasing the Forum; that's a completely different 'kettle of fish!' )

If Moos is trying - in any way - to influence Miles or for want of a better term, tell him how to run his program, then my opinion of him (which is already not great) just got that much worse. Protest all you want but in my eyes his track record of managing hoops programs is poor to bad. I want him about as far away from the hoops program as he can get thankyouverymuch. I have never gotten the Moos love around the state. To me, he's got a lot to prove.

It was reported yesterday that Lee Barfnecht will be stepping down at the OWH. He will be sorely missed. Not only has he been one of my All-time favorite sportswriters in general, no one ever did a better job of covering Husker hoops. His writing was always well thought out, insightful, and well researched. He was fair minded, never a rah rah guy, and not afraid to use a touch of gallows humor as required. Also, other than Ed Weir and myself, maybe the most famous Superior Wildcat alumni ever.

    Nebraska Football 2018-2019

Never a bad thing to shed dead weight. All three were 3rd or 4th string. Glad Barnett put his health first. Jackson has some stuff to figure out; if he finds a new school it will be his FIFTH one (Kentucky -> Iowa Western -> Mesa -> Nebraska). Roberts will probably find a team out on the east coast. I still think he will be a good player and hopefully this experience matures him and makes him realize the work he will need to put in at his new school. He is very talented.

  16. Sort of like a certain RB recruit who excitedly accepts our offer via a verbal commitment, and then looks at our other RB recruits along with, what now appears be a decently strong RB room, and sort of saying 'never mind, I can't compete against those dudes' -- or something like that.

    Most Improved Player?

Since you asked, here's a distinction the internet provides: https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/30507/differences-between-sleeper-and-dark-horse Here's a part of it: dark horse |ˈdɑrk ˈˈhɔrs| noun 1 a person about whom little is known, esp. someone whose abilities and potential for success are concealed : [as adj.] a dark-horse candidate. 2 a competitor or candidate who has little chance of winning, or who wins against expectations : a preseason dark horse as the nation's top collegiate football team. sleeper |ˈslipər| noun 3 a movie, book, play, etc., that achieves sudden unexpected success after initially attracting little attention, typically one that proves popular without much promotion or expenditure. • an antique whose true value goes unrecognized for some time. Actually, Black Beauty is a "dark horse," while a lazy, old nag is a "sleeper."

    Most Improved Player?

It's the difference between sundown and midnight. IDK. Sleeper feels a little more buried on the list to me. Or it's just a way to add a name to the list. That's probably it.

Ha! I just read the article. Overall, this is "decent" news. Here are my thoughts ranked from best news to worst news. - As everyone has stated, RPI was terrible and to kill it is truly amazing - Looks like they will continue to use the quadrant system with the NET being the metric driving the tier. This is completely fine to me. The quadrant system isn't nearly as bad as what Husker fans give it credit (give it another chance), and part of the reason it wasn't good last year is because it used the blasted RPI to determine the tier - which really hurt the Big Ten and really helped the Big 12. It was very skewed. The quadrant system using NET should be pretty good - I find it interesting that they back-tested the NET to make it most accurate as possible. This tells me that this will be much more of a metric to rank the "best" teams (think KenPom) rather than "most worthy" teams (think RPI or strength of record). - Worst news is that it doesn't appear this will be transparent at all. This sucks. ----- No data on prior years (I'm guessing Nebraska would have a pretty decent ranking in 2017-2018) ----- More of a black-box calculation - does this make people question it more when their team has an unfavorable ranking? And did they say how often new rankings will be released? ----- How will websites like Bart Torvik, Warren Nolan, etc that try to project NCAA Tournament team sheets and tournament chances incorporate this? Just wait until the NCAA releases new numbers every time? That blows. I'm pretty sure @Cookie Miller Wasn't Dirty is an actuary too, but it doesn't look like he's visited since April.

  25. I don't think its terrible because it is not what we've done. I think its a terrible idea on it's on merit. Now maybe if we get Coach K as a future AD. NBA GM's are hired to run professional basketball teams. Moos was primarily hired to straighten out football. And all AD's have a lot more on their plate than one sport. I've seen nothing that shows me Moos knows anything about basketball. There are always exceptions but I don't think too many coaches (with job security - I know that greatly reduces the number) would put up with an interfering AD.

The schedule is pretty tough from the get go. Good teams to play in the preseason. Will be a demanding season coming up. Couple of months to wait ....then buckle up....here we go. The new girls will have to catch on early. Almost half the team is new to NU. Coach has her work cut out for her this season. Lots of challenges ...4 freshman...one new transfer...few seniors.....tough schedule..and a crazy forum to please. ?

Why he may have done a great job with basketball, he will forever be marked by the fact he voted for Michigan over Nebraska in the 1997 National Championship vote. He is dead to me unless he takes Dirk C with him.

Lost in the discussion is the key point here. RPI is gone. That thing was so damn stupid it was mind boggling. No more watching Marist and Delaware St. games on my computer in hopes they don't set our RPI back 8 more spots. While the quadrant system was horrific last year, the reason it was so horrific was because it was based off the dumbest metric possible, RPI.

If you’re going to have a margin of victory factor, don’t limit it to ten points. It could be neck and neck with one minute left and crawl to ten after free throws.
