  1. I fail to see how anyone can blame this on Miles. First off, how do we know he wasn’t trying to recruit a big? If you’re a grad transfer or Juco, you want to probably go somewhere to play. All spring we had our Big 5 coming back, then Jordy off the bench. When the recruiting pitch is that we have our top 6 returning, we start small, then bring in our Jr center off the bench first, it doesn’t sound appetizing to recruiting a big. It would have been a completely different recruiting pitch if it was “after our starting 5, YOU could be the 6th man off the bench.” That’s why this is all on Jordy. The timing is crap and therefore the decision is crap. This one isn’t on Miles because it’s a lot different sell had Jordy been gone earlier.

Smiles, your posts on here have the appearance of someone waiting to pounce at the first bit of bad news. If Miles doesn't allow Jordy to return in January you're probably hammering him for not giving second chances and not listening to his players. And how how do you know we didn't try to sign a juco /transfer big? Getting good enough ones isn't exactly easy. No one should be immune from criticism but yours seems over the top.

Buh bye. Obviously if you walk out on your teammates twice, it’s a “don’t let the door hit ya on the way out” situation.

    Morrow leaving

Morrow and his handlers have rather "unique" expectations and/or demands. Yet the kid busted his balls on the court. If he worked on his game during his redshirt year, he will play, and he will play well. Same with Jacobson. People can be bitter about both of them leaving, but both played well while here. Remember, we only saw them as freshmen and sophomores. Arguably, both played out of their preferred positions; yet both played pretty well. I expect both of them to play well the next two years.

The 50 minutes some substitute big guy gets in November/December over 5 games is 50 minutes fresher for Roby/Copeland in February/March.

I had thought it unlikely he'd return based on last season's incident. So the timing is strange, but maybe not if he's been rehabbing on NU's dime and is now ready to leave. If he turns up somewhere else in the next few days, then it seems like maybe this is how it was going to play out all along. I'd guess word will filter to the media about how everything went down, but it's hard to believe we knew he was going all along. Don't care either way, time to move on.

The positive side is this removes the temptation to play Jordy. You're right in that it does bog down the middle. The issue it creates is depth issues. Once again the reason we should've been going after a big transfer

Cant say Im surprised. It's exactly why I harped on recruiting a JUCO/grad transfer big all spring. It is/was absolutely stupid to sit on that last scholarship. Especially while we were in flux on Roby and Copeland.

A real friend will be honest. Your friend may want to get back together again but you know better and are willing to risk having them be mad at you to tell them that. Continuing the metaphor this is the second time we caught him cheating. Once maybe forgiven but twice is a pattern. And this late date is the equivalent of leaving you at the alter. The wedding and the reception have been paid for and there is no recouping that lose. So it is human to hope that he never finds true love. I hope he makes a nice living with the psychology degree that he earns I but am petty enough at 1:00 AM to hope he never makes another jump hook in his life.

I feel he is weak and lets his “handlers” too easily push him, regardless his actions are incredibly selfish. I would say good ridence but now our only option is small ball. So late we can’t find his “Evan Taylor.” Much worse than Andrew White. Tomorrow maybe I’ll get past the pettiness but tonight I’m bitter and hope his basketball career ends badly for him.

Kudos to Glynn, he could have transferred at any time like the rest of his recruiting class but ended up sticking it out and will get rewarded for doing so. I think he has a big year ahead of him.

I'm worried about about all 5 seasons and looking out for the best interest of each Kid....just because he might help the team a little, i don't think you sacrifice his 5th year if he wants it, so you ight be 0.25 points a game better...

That is a lot of speculation that Heiman is better than Tanner in some of those areas. No doubt that Heiman has a height advantage but not sure he is better than Tanner in all those areas. Also, you are comparing Tanner to playing against Big 10 talent to Heiman playing against high school kids.

Borchardt was just as effective as Jordy at times. He's not skilled. In that, you are right. But unlike Jordy, he knew and embraced his role more. I'd have hardly called Jordy a NY strip. More like an uncooked sirloin.

Better off without him because he clearly didn’t want to be at NU. It seems to me that he regarded himself as a starter. Roby will have to avoid the silly fouls that plagued him last year. I don’t believe in handing out scholarships just to get a big body. Make do with what we have.

I'll add...I wonder if this will be a positive on the offensive end? Jordy seemed to clog things up and was a black hole when touching the ball. It was almost a given that he was chucking it up if he touched the ball. On the defensive end...it concerns me. Miles is going to have to get real creative if Roby gets in foul trouble. We may be seeing a lot of 1-3-1 this year.

    1. I feel bad for Roby who will have to play the majority of the minutes at the 5. Have to wonder how that will effect his NBA prospects. 2. Miles failures in regards to recruiting bigs continues to be a black eye for him. 3. Jordy was/is a mediocre basketball player up to this point who was likely going to be just another warm body to eat minutes this year. But still a tough blow as we are now razor thin down low. Probably would have been a good idea to use all of the available scholarships for once.

Miles talked to the family and must have heard enough right things to allow him back. Either Jordy or his family or both knew they were being untruthful at that meeting. This is 100% on Jordy even if the decision was guided by others.

Where you there? Did you hear any pleading? Miles has a conversation with his family and when everybody was done talking Jordy stayed with the program. That’s all I know and unless you were in the room you don’t know any more either. I assume that Miles let him back because he recommitted to the program because as a coach that’s the only way I would have let him come back. I wasn’t there either but based on my experiences coaching I’m assuming Jordy lied whether he knew it at the time or not and just threw his team under the bus in an incredibly selfish act. I’m assuming that someone in his camp decided that leaving then would lose Jordy a semester of eligibility and they started planning his exit at that time. The best word that comes to my mind to describe Jordy right now is weak.

This board sometimes reminds me of two best friends talking to each other about dating... Introduces a significant other to their best friend: "Awe, they're so awesome!" Breaks up with a significant other: "You're better off without them." Gets back together with significant other: "You two are so great together." Breaks up again: "They didn't deserve you anyway."

  40. I watched two highlight videos. I don't see what I would call a raw player. The first video showed him hit five threes. Three were vs. zones off of good ball movement or penetration. The other two were in the fast break where he ran to a corner and got the kick out. Three he had space but was facing closeouts shooting against high hands and the other two he had a more space but people running at him. In the second video, he did have some wide open shots but those appeared to me to be caused by defensive over-rotations and not anything in a scouting report. It was in a different era but when I played junior college ball there wasn't much to scouting reports so I think both you and I are over-extrapolating the evidence to support our argument with insufficient data to prove either of us correct. I am anal enough to take a couple of screenshots showing him hitting with a hand in his face. Odds are he won't come to Nebraska anyway and all of this will be moot.

  41. I’ll add my two bits (this is more than I actually know—no snarky comments, please, on such being my normal state) : I’ve always thought that Juco offers are commit-able in the late signing period, not in November. Both sides usually want it that way because, (i) schools want to see how the second Juco season progresses, and (ii) players don’t want to commit until they know what needs a team has—they can ill-afford a mistake on this score.

  42. I only watched the first half and maybe it's an unconscious bias but I thought he was mostly out of control and had way too many turnovers. He does handle the ball very well but mostly he used his handles to get to places where he was in trouble and had few if any positive options. And maybe it was a planned rotation but after about three turnovers in a row, he went to the bench for quite some time. I thought Jaylin Hunter looked much better and also felt Akol was a step up from most of the players on OSA.

  43. Akol would be a great get. Even at 6’6 he can give us really good minutes. Great hands, really really elite quickness off the floor, and really good basketball iq (think all the think Okeke sucked at)

  46. According to the juco stats, this kid was 4th on his team in scoring (top freshman), 2nd in steals, 3rd in assists, 3rd in 3-point accuracy, and #1 in assist:turnover ratio. Freshman. Best on the team in assist:turnover ratio. That's unusual for a freshman who plays starter minutes and handles the ball enough to be 3rd on the team in assists.

    Morrow leaving

He'll play well when he's healthy and his rebounding and post game will be valuable there. However if you look at their lineups over the last 3 years it's essentially 4+ guys on the court at any time that take and make 3s. If Morrow isn't a guy making/taking 3s then he's going to find himself in a logjam with a few guys for one spot.

    Roby (is Good)

Maybe the 2 biggest challenges this year (1) developing depth at wings (2) maximizing efficiency on offense by figuring out who gets shots. As Dean said above, it's not as simple as saying Watson should shoot less and Roby more, since a lot of shot selection is taking what the defense gives you. Teams let Glynn take 3s because he doesn't hit them and they can play back to cut off his drives. If everyone else is locked down, Glynn often has to take the shot. Also, is Roby our best player based on NBA potential? Maybe, but does he become the priority over a potential BIG first teamer in Palmer? And Cope was our most efficient player on offense, does he have less priority than Roby? I don't have the answer to any of that, and neither does the coaching staff at this point. They'll figure it out this fall and in early games. Actually, defense is always the biggest challenge, but who wants to talk about that?
