  1. Hard to believe Doc would change his name and get caught with a Russian spy but I’ve seen that face too many times during 6 minutes offensive droughts for it to be someone else.

  2. Full disclaimer, I am fairly young and the first Nebrasketball team I remember watching is the 2000-01 squad led by Cookie Belcher. So there may be some recency bias here, especially since the Tim Miles Era has produced much more athletic ability than the Barry Collier or Doc Sadler eras. Without further ado, my own personal top 5 Nebrasketball dunks of all time: 1. Jason Dourisseau breaks the basket. I'll admit I did not watch this one live, but did listen to the call on the radio and saw it on Sportscenter the next day. 2. Caleb Walker Alley-Oop vs. Illinois. One-handed alley oop from a pass outside the three point line... incredible. 3. Isaac Copeland posterizes 7'2" Isaac Haas. 4. Sek Henry posterizes Andre Drummond. Technically not a Nebrasketball dunk but I can't leave this one out. 5. James Palmer Jr. posterizes Kevin Huerter. This may not even be JPJ's best dunk but in the moment it so unexpected and dunking over a first-round NBA talent is a big deal. Honorable mention: * Roby rises up vs. Rutgers: * David Rivers dunk vs FGCU to open up the PBA * The Aleks Maric dunk, which always looked the same * JPJ Kobe Bryant dunk vs. Penn St. * The Cookie Miller dunk (he claimed he could do it but don't think I ever saw it) * Terran Petteway posterize vs. Baylor in the NCAA Tournament. would have made the list if this game had gone well

Absolutely. Our tickets, our donations, our time, our efforts in turning out game after game, even when things weren’t so good. I’ve probably attended more practices over the years than a player would in a season. And what I missed in film sessions, I made up for in posting videos of various games, practices, drills, recruits, etc. I hope they win GAMES in the tourney this season, but I’m hoping so as much for me as for anyone else. (I’ll be happy for Glynn’s sake too.)

  4. I only watched the first half and maybe it's an unconscious bias but I thought he was mostly out of control and had way too many turnovers. He does handle the ball very well but mostly he used his handles to get to places where he was in trouble and had few if any positive options. And maybe it was a planned rotation but after about three turnovers in a row, he went to the bench for quite some time. I thought Jaylin Hunter looked much better and also felt Akol was a step up from most of the players on OSA.

    Morrow leaving

All the foregoing is irrelevant, if he can’t stay healthy. It looks like his power and explosiveness are too great for his feet and core to endure. Had he stayed healthy both years at Nebraska, both he and the Huskers would be worlds ahead of where both are now.

2019 PF Akol Arop - LOI

First impressions... Shereef could be real deal, tight handle and very shifty, not going to be a star but will be a solid ball handler for the bad guys I hope we get Akol, has a good motor and is a good finisher around the rim. Know what you're getting with him every time.

  7. I think he was gone before that. I'm thinking about the time we added Copeland in January. He was a totally different player when he came back from "injury."

  8. Little refined skill compared to whom? Nana? Who reportedly can shoot the ball (personally haven't seen evidence of this) but isn't so good at dribbling? To me, looks like this kid has some handles, and he can certainly shoot. His juco stats indicate he hit 40% of his treys. The videos show he has Norm-approved form. He gets good elevation and he has a compact stroke with a quick release. He's good at the catch-and-shoot. Can take aim quickly and get the ball away. This is an area of need. You have a guy who can get to the rim and finish and he can also hit from the perimeter. And he can jump out of the gym. What's not to like?

    Morrow leaving

He'll play well when he's healthy and his rebounding and post game will be valuable there. However if you look at their lineups over the last 3 years it's essentially 4+ guys on the court at any time that take and make 3s. If Morrow isn't a guy making/taking 3s then he's going to find himself in a logjam with a few guys for one spot.

  11. He's a freaky athlete...but I found it interesting because of the logjam of bodies that could play there. We are set to have all of 3 guys (Jordy-Sr, Roby-Sr, Heimann-rFr) right now (assuming Roby returns which is a stretch IMO) to man two positions in the front court. That's pretty thin, unbalanced and unless we see a huge step up by Jordy, not very good. Meanwhile we are set to have Thor, Nana, Burke, Allen who can not only play the two but are also going to be juniors as well in eligibility along with Harris who could also play the two. Combined with lack of depth at other spots and the logjam at this specific position, a JUCO offer makes me think we aren't real high on a few of those guys being big time contributors moving forward. Not to mention some of our HS offers at the wing positions as well.

  12. You have a 6'5 freak of an athletic guard. With that ability and length, he could be an incredible defender at Nebraska and if he wasn't he wouldn't play for Miles so I'm going with he would be an incredible defender for us. Now all of these are highlights and highlights are never a true depiction of a players game but what I saw was a player that could finish at the rim even when not dunking and he dunks a lot with a 45+ inch verticle. He makes a heck of an option on the lob. His team last year had about 6 players averaging between 8 and 14 points. He was at 10. My guess is that means the whole team has bought into the coaches system and plays that way without fighting for the ball. So going out on a limb and I'm saying he could be a good teammate willing to play the role that was asked of him. I saw enough mid-range game in the video to know that he at least some and most players today have no midrange game. His stats say he shot just under four free throws a game at 77.5%. I can live with that % and would predict he could get to the line a lot more if that's what the coaches wanted him to do. Of course, he hit every three in the video but if you look at his stats from last year again he only took 2 threes a game but shot right at 40%. That's a number anyone would be happy with. There is not much elevation on his shot but its a quick release and he has good form so I think the 40% wasn't a fluke. He has some room to fill out and that's something the program is good at. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and the only one that really matters is Miles. My opinion is he is definitely worth a scholarship.

Do you think Morrow is regretting his decision to transfer to Marquette now that his old high school buddy, Jabari Parker, decided to move back to Chicago and sign with his hometown Bulls? It will be interesting to see what his role is with Marquette. Seems like they have a lot of talent. He would have been a great sub for Roby and Copeland off the bench this year. Of course I don’t think he ever had any plans on coming off the bench for Nebraska...

  14. Interesting hire. I like Coach Brown and he brings a whole lot of good back to unl, but he also brings a bit of bagage that may alienate a few folks. This would NEVER have taken place if Harvey was still here; but then again, if Harvey was still here, neither Moos or Frost would be here either.?

Yes, Lewis has taken the lead on in-state kids moving forward. He's the lead on Chucky as well.

We may have a lot riding on the results of the MBB Team this season. I remember the uptick in recruiting following our last appearance in the NCAA's.

Not at all - I'm right there with you. They're the ones who deserve it anyway, they've done all the work. We're just the fans cheering them on.

Does it sound too sappy to say that I hope we make it to the tourney and win game*S*, more so for the sake of Glynn and the rest, than for my own wishes?

  21. I caught up with Akol after he got back to Omaha on Monday if anybody is interested in reading some more about him.

  22. The difference is that Akol is only 6'5" vs. Roby's 6'8". I do find it interesting that Miles offered Akol now. I didn't see what he showed this weekend in New York, but from what I have seen I don't think he's much if any further along skill-wise than Ageuk was as a senior, and I'd say Aguek was probably a more natural perimeter defender than Akol is right now. It will be interesting to track Akol's progress this winter and see just how much Prep expands his role offensively (which was the plan already) and what that looks like.

  23. I don't believe what happened between Nebraska and Aguek will have too much of an impact on what Akol chooses to do. We've already seen Akol go out and make his own choices with him going to Creighton Prep over Omaha South for high school (South thought he was going there; they even had him on their bench at state as an eighth grader IIRC), and he has a different group around him offering advice/mentorship. Right now, Nebraska is Akol's best offer by far. We'll see what the next two weekends bring, but Nebraska's in a good place right now, I'd say. I highly doubt he turns down Nebraska to go to UNO or UAB.
