  1. I hope we get to see them in the B1G Final.

  2. Jordy has slightly regressed offensively, but he's improved his rebounding and assists. I still like his ceiling. A lot. He just needs to get mean again. I feel like that's where most of his problems are coming from--he's not mean right now. He needs to get pissed off.

  3. I think it's been the general consensus that Jordy was looking really promising at the end of last season and people were figuring/expecting/hoping to see an even better Jordy this year. And I think the consensus would be that, not only has he not taken the step forward people had hoped, but that he might even have (gasp) taken a step backwards. He seems very tentative when he gets the ball on the low blocks. He takes a lot of time to decide what to do with the ball. He hesitates, he crouches, he lets the defense recover and react to him having the ball. And then ... meh. My theory: It just wasn't a very good time for the sake of Jordy's low-post offensive development for us to bring in an elite shot blocker to practice against. Let's be real honest here. Duby might have some limitations as a player, but elevating isn't one of them. Probably his best attribute and certainly the thing he seems to like to do the most is wait for his man to try to shoot and then use his superior timing and leaping ability to go up and get it. So when you have a guy like Jordy who, again, being honest, is still a bit raw and learning the game, it probably did nothing at all for Jordy's confidence to have to face the robo-shot-blocker in practice all the time. Duby can get to shots that 99% of the rest of the guys in the nation cannot get to, shots Jordy could get off against most anyone else he would play against. Except Duby. I know it's not a perfect theory, but it would seem to explain some of the regression and what look like some bad habits. Ultimately, he's just too tentative and has to think too much about what to do instead of just playing and reacting. And he might have a little Duby in his head.

  4. Forget basketball drills, he needs to work on basic agility, flex ability, and footwork. Should get him some yoga classes (being serious) and other activities that improve his range of motion and overall motor skills.

  9. I truly believe that there is only a short term focus--win. There is no long term plan, or worrying about 2018-19. And the staff knows it. We win enough over the next 8 weeks or so and Miles will get an extension, things stabilize and are secure, and we emerge with a stronger base in recruiting. Can go after prospects we can't get to consider us now. Doors will open. We don't win a bunch during this time and it's over. Moos will be making a hire. A year ago at this time we won at IU and Maryland and won the double OT game vs. Iowa. Then NW at home happened and we cratered. I realize a main point of a message board is to have a place to speculate about the future, but I'm not getting out of my skis until we win a bunch of games. Unlike past years, there is no more time. Assuming we lose to Purdue, the Wiscy home game becomes the next must win (like I think NW was). I think we'll have a few of them, as there just isn't a cushion. Some years that is melodramatic. Not this year. We'll worry about recruiting and transfers and such when we win about 10 more games.

  10. Norm, excellent observation. Jordy seems to overthink everything, from the jump ball at the beginning of the game, to any offensive move that may be in his repertoire. As a result he looks slow and lethargic. When he is forced to think fast, he does so...for example, when there has been a loose ball on the floor, he is one of the first going after it. Absolutely no clue what is happening, but gosh darn, we need him fixed. Lordy, I would love to have him at the top of his game on Saturday.

I'll put this here since there seems to be a lot of lineup/strategy talk lost in other/multiple threads. This is simple. Going forward, if Miles forces opponents to react to us, to our strengths, we will win a lot more games. We have too many weapons to sit back and not play to our strengths. Too many weapons to sit back and let other teams do their thing. Let's do our thing. Come on Miles, lets do what Frost suggested. That is, make the rest of the big ten react to us. Or whatever he said. So, like the last 10 minutes last night...let's do that for 40 minutes and really jump out on and stomp opponents' throats. Lets get the most mismatches out on the court and get out and run. That's when we're best. 1-Watson 2-Taylor 3-Palmer 4-Copeland 5-Roby Filter in Allen and Gill at the guards. Give Borchardt and Duby a few minutes to spell Roby/Copeland. Jordy, use him in emergencies only. Sorry, take a seat for awhile. Heard it mentioned on the telecast last night, been mentioned in other threads, but that Copeland and Roby 4/5 tandem has got to be a thing. Agin (shoutout Doc Sadler), make the opponent adjust to us. Specifically with Purdue, this forces them to put Haas on either Copeland or Roby. Or they have to set Haas on the bench. "They gotta pick they poison"--Glynn Watson. Pull Haas away from the basket and let Palmer do his thing. Let Watson do his thing. Run the court. Run, run the floor and make Haas gallop. Roby and Copeland can get down the floor twice as fast. I don't care if he beats us inside or gets a few extra rebounds. Those points are going to be meaningless if we get out and run. More ideas?

  15. Roy Williams: A drop step is not a post move it's a layup and everyone needs to be able to make layups. Post players need ONE move and the counter. That's all." Jordy's go to move is the jumphook to the middle. He needs to learn a double drop when that move ist taken away and he's good. Catch the ball, Drop step either way if available, if not go to your go to move, if they take that away use the counter, if that's not there kick it out and repost. There should be no "thinking" in that process. Just train the muscle memory and then go through the progression everytime you catch the ball.

Here's the full quote on the small lineup: “Isaiah Roby is tremendous. I just don’t think it’s in his best interest or even Isaac Copeland’s to battle with the big guys like Dererk Pardon who’s an all-conference-type player and Isaac Haas who’s having all-conference-type numbers, to go in there and think he’s going to play them for 30 minutes and not foul and not get worn out or whatever. Now, certainly I’m going to get that lineup on the floor at important times.”

Miles echos the statements about lineups. “It isn’t really important who starts. The lineup that is best will be on the floor at the right time and when it needs to be..” is how I took it. My favorite quote.... ”Man I guess being up by 17 isn’t enough for huskerfan42”

  19. I thought I would post this here as it hasn't happened in the womens game for 25 yrs. Point guard Shakyla Hill had a quardruple double. Has a mens college player ever been honored with this feat? https://theundefeated.com/whhw/shakyla-hill-gets-first-quadruple-double-in-womens-d-i-hoops-in-almost-25-years/

  20. In November 2000, Jason Kidd pulled off sort of an infamous quadruple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 14 turnovers, does that count?

  21. Lester Hudson is the first and only Division I men's player to have recorded a quadruple-double (25 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals) in 2007.

  22. It's so nice looking at our schedule to this point and not seeing any horrifying losses. That's just as important as quality wins come Selection Sunday. This team has proven enough to me to believe will absolutely protect The Vault, but they have absolutely NO reason to be intimidated on the road against any team outside of MSU, who I think will run straight through the NCAA title this year. The NW win told me a whole lot of good news about their ceiling as a road team.

  26. Quick update this morning, there's been a good deal of shuffling this week and we are as high as we're likely to be for a while so I wanted to get this up for posterity's sake. Michigan State is now #1. Here is today's KenPom update: KenPom rankings as of 1-5-18 ======================== B1G (2-1): 1. Michigan State (10) - L 4. Purdue (17) 32. Michigan (32) 35. 30. All PR and I'm fine with it. They did the absolute most they possibly could and the country clubbers of college football are crapping on it. It probably cost them their coach, which is our gain. They're not the national champs. Nobody's gonna remember them as national champs. They're rousing some rabbles, likely in hopes of starting a movement to reform the system. They're keeping the conversation about their program alive. For a team like that, that's exactly what they need to do, kitchey as it may be.

  31. Andy Katz was on BTN live last night. Said some really nice things about Nebraska. Spoke a lot about the "quadrants", some of you have mentioned (as bigred4 did last week), the new system for NCAA selection committee, and how badly we needed the KU win. We are 0-4 in quadrant 1, but 3-1 in the 2nd quadrant. The breakdown will be as follows:Quadrant 1: Home 1-30; Neutral 1-50; Away 1-75 Quadrant 2: Home 31-75; Neutral 51-100; Away 76-135Quadrant 3: Home 76-160; Neutral 101-200; Away 136-240Quadrant 4: Home 161-plus; Neutral 201-plus; Away 241-plus. To those of you that have enough time to read my thoughts on this sheet, I apologize in advance. The new system, as I've found messing around with it all morning, is much more in-depth than the old system, but I think much better. If this was college football and UCF had.......... never mind. I'll stay focused. Current: Q1: L's @ St. J's, @ Mich St., @ PukeBirds, vs. KU (0-4) Q2: W's vs. BC, vs. Minn, @ NW, L UCF* (3-1) VERY SOLID! Q3: W LB St.* (1-0) Q4: Rest (7-0) (Never a doubt) Remaining: Q1 remaining: @ Purdue, @ OSU, @ Minn, (3) Q2 remaining: @ Penn St., vs. Mich, @ Wis, vs. Mary, @ Ill, (5) Q3 remaining: Most likely all the rest (6) (assuming Iowa jumps up) Q4 remaining: Except vs. Rutgers??? (1) Some of these teams could move to higher/lower Q's. The game against Wisconsin at home on the 9th is a Q3!!! That seems pretty tough to me. Anyway...... Lets say we get 4 more Q1 games (1 in B1G Tourney) and snag 1 win, finishing 1-7 in quadrant 1. That's obviously not good, but I think the Q1 wins are going to be VERY hard to come by, not just for Nebraska, but for most teams outside the top 25. (KU and Pukebirds , one of, or both of those would have been nice) But, what I think is going to separate Nebraska from others is that Q2, especially if we can get our Q2 to 7-3. (looks like we'll get 5 or 6 more Q2 games. Hopefully some more B1G teams can make a jump in RPI so we can get a few more Q2 games. (IOWA AT HOME WOULD CURRENTLY BE A Q4 BTW!!!!) I think Q2 (7-3) that would compete very well with all bottom 1/2 NCAA tourney schools and would make it much easier to over look our potentially rough Q1. I'm just thinking out loud here. My goal was to see how many wins I think we need to get to the tournament. 1 WIN FROM HERE? Q1 remaining: @ Purdue, @ OSU, @ Minn, (3) (1-2) CAN WE WIN 3 OF THESE??? (I'm only marking 2 for now) Q2 remaining: @ Penn St., vs. Mich, @ Wis, vs. Mary, @ Ill, (5) (2-3) WIN 5 FROM THE REST, PREFERABLY 6, ONLY DROPPING 1 BAD ONE? Let's say we drop 2 though. Q3: vs. Wis, vs. Illinois, @ Rutgers, vs. Iowa, vs. Rutgers, vs. Indiana, vs. Penn St. (7) (5-2) Finally, Beat a Q2 in B1G and lose to a Q1. 20-13 overall, 10-8 in conference. 1 win in B1G tourney We'd be: Q1: (1-7) (added 1 loss coming in tourney) Q2: (6-5) (added 1 win coming in tourney) Q3: (5-2) Drop 2 badish game Q4: (8-0) or pick up an extra win in conference play (3-2 in Q2 instead of 2-3) and loss first round (probably be a double bye @ 11-7) We'd be: Q1: (1-6) Q2: (6-5) (1 loss coming in tourney) Q3: (5-2) Drop 2 badish game Q4: (8-0) 20-12 overall, 11-7 in conference. No wins in B1G tourney I first wanted to put this together to make my point that you guys are crazy if you think we're not going to make the tournament getting to 20 wins, but.... I don't think you're far off. I think 20 wins is the MINIMUM and i'd give it a 50/50 shot at getting us in. Now, obviously my records can be different getting to 20 wins (1 more big win, one more lower loss, etc.) that could improve our resume both positively and negatively depending on how you look at it. I think 21 is going to be really close to a lock though. That's what I think should be the teams "magic number" of wins. 10 more! You have to remember that there are 20 something teams in-front of Nebraska in the RPI that are going to drop in conference play due to the competition they are playing, win or lose. Skers' SOS and RPI will keep creeping up as long has they take care of business and play like they have shown. Katz mentioned that HCTM talked about making PBA the toughest home court in B1G. Katz said he hasn't experienced it yet but has been told, "...how great a home court it is and can be....". He spoke very highly of our top 5 playmakers (Glynn, JPJ, Gill, IC, and Roby) He said Nebraska is the one team in the BIG that, "...we're trying to place and don't know yet..." I hope Katz and the committee finds out that the Skers are a top 4 team in the B1G and I believe we can and will get to 21 wins. My prediction: Q1: (2-6) (1 win/1 loss coming in tourney) Q2: (7-4) (1 win coming in tourney) Q3: (5-2) Drop 2 lower Q games Q4: (8-0) 22-12 overall, 11-7 in conference. Runner-up in B1G tourney Final Season Record: 24-13. Now you do the math.......

  33. I would say it's too far, except that I think it's clearly just a play to make sure that they have the possibility of playing for a title in the future. Danny White (rightly) recognizes that if he wants to attract (and retain) good coaching talent (and good recruits, etc.), UCF needs to be able to play for a title in a year like this. (Arguably, if there's an 8-team playoff and UCF is in, Scott Frost doesn't come to Nebraska). A wise move. I don't think it will have the desired effect this year, but it's one step closer. All for the better in my opinion.
