  2. It was a must win the minute it was put on the schedule.

Looking forward is the right answer, 12dozen, the future is bright. I think we have the right coaching staff to make this fun. I've bought in as a fan, 100%. Not that I would ever abandon my Huskers, win or lose, I'm just trying to find the right way to say how excited I am about this team.

Give her a couple of years with this strength and conditioning department, and we might not recognize her. The current team looks like they have bought into whatever the S & C department is selling. We might not get the number of wins we'd like this year, but there sure seems to be enough positive signs, for one to be encouraged.

While I see your comparison, I'm not convinced that fits a girl from New York. Plus, she's not rocking that flat top. Got to love the freshmen though, so psyched about this team.

After watching the game from last night today. I wonder if we can call Kate, Ms. Big Country? Most of you should know who the orignal Big Country is. She reminds me a lot of him a bit slow but always in the right place and is hard to defend.

  7. On the flip side given that college basketball is 30 games and you can overcome the loss of any one game stating that any game is a must win, especially early in the season, is an overstatement.

  8. If we don't win this one you might as well board up the PBA and just get it over with...

  9. Heavy roster turnover cannot continue to be an excuse for Tim Miles. In year 6, this is completely his program - both the good things and the bad things.

  10. Thanks. I completely messed up my jump shot my sophomore year trying to imitate Smooth as Silk Jamaal Wilkes.

  11. BTW Dean, I have to compliment you on that Magic photo. Fantastic. Lots of folks remember when he scored 42 as a rookie, game 6 at the Spectrum. But, most don't recall one Jamaal Wilkes had 37 the same game. Go Lakers, and GBR!

  12. Nailed it. All the time spent debating Jacobson, Horne and Morrow's flaws, and drawing up imaginary lineups, and this is the bigger issue. What happened against St. John's is exactly what happens when you have heavy roster turnover. Nobody knows how to play together. The good news is that it's a long season, but the first look at how Miles has put together the pieces is brutal.

  13. If you want him to stop shooting , sit him. He can’t shoot front the bench and if he wants to play he will do what you ask him to. I always had 4’s that I wanted shooting the three out of the secondary break so that was never a problem for me.

  14. I slowed this down. Jordy sealing 6'7" 210lb Ahmed. Waston trying to get him the ball early on. Was this one Jordy making himself so small and/or Watson trying to deliver it down there? Also this is part of the motion offense we're trying to run, right? Watson as the option to deliver it down to Jordy or catch Copeland rotation to the top. On the other side Palmer and Taylor are spaced out ready to start the same 2-3 man action on their side of the court should when the ball comes their way.

  15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we've yet to make the tourney with any former Butler guys on the staff.

Not a huge WBB follower but i did like the Amy Williams hire last year. I think she will do a good job here. As good as Yori? Who knows. But she will have the ladies in the post season regularly.

  18. He is not going to take any. If you noticed he took a 15 footer and immediately Duby was on the way to the scorer's table. Both he and Duby sealed early and never got the ball. Our perimeter players look at them until they are covered and then pass the ball somewhere else. That becomes frustrating and you begin to work less hard at sealing as the game goes on. I watched the one open practice this year and some in previous years and they do work on post moves and when they get the ball in a proper position they (try) execute them. The staff really likes the drop step middle with the jump hook/flip over the rim and you can see that a lot in the two of them. OK not a lot because they don't get the ball a lot. They also like the Sikma move where you face the basket on a reverse pivot and then do a rip move to get all the way to the other side of the basket. I saw Jordy do this in a previous game but he missed the layup. The coaching staff might be good or bad but they are not inept. I've seen Roby work on post moves but he is not willing to try to use them in a game. Up until now, our best post player has been Copeland. He has been very successful in a limited sample size with a middle drop step turnaround jump shot. I would, at this time prefer he get off the three point line and get in the lane where he can actually make some baskets. I think he could be very effective there. So if we were running a high low, I would have him low and Roby high. It was only one game and everybody overreacts to everything in society today but boy was that one painful game to watch.

Even from my living room (BTN), you could see Nicea contributing from the bench. Looking forward to her taking the floor. These kids seem to like each other and are having fun. Might be wishful thinking, but I'm seeing another Cady/Hooper type combo in Cain/Kissinger. Their games might be a little different, but they already have a similar chemistry. Early yet, but sure looks like we are on the path to better things. On the other bench, Arkansas has some nice players. Hope we don't run into many more like Monk. That girl can move. Didn't see anyone dressed in white last night, that could keep up with her. We just might have beat a tourney team last night. GBR

  20. I get the frustration with the Athletic Director interview, I really do. It totally detracted from watching the actual game for a much longer time than was probably necessary, but... Anybody that thinks this Gavitt Games event is ANYTHING other than a pure hype/PR machine for the Big East Conference and it's member schools is really kidding themselves. This whole thing was created as a means to hype up a brand new conference of schools that stole it's name from the conference that most of its schools left. It's named after the man who started the Big East in the first place. This was intended to be used as a way for the 7 Catholic schools that left the Big East to form it's own new conference to tell the world "See folks? This is the Big East you all remembered and loved, never mind that so many of the best founding members are not here..." I had misgivings about the Big Ten being involved in this deal from the start and nothing has been done to change my mind since. The schedules are made - it appears - just imbalanced enough to give the Big East schools the slightest advantage. One could even put his tinfoil hat on and say that even the refs are in on it, too but I'm not going to do that. It's kind of sickening in the same way the SEC gets so much media hype and praise in football. You can't "prove" it isn't the better conference, but you just kind of get that feeling that it really isn't all that it's hyped up to be. Of course all this sounds like sour grapes from a fan of a school that lost its game, I get that too, and let me be clear when I say the Nebraska team that played last night has no business being involved in these games, it sucks to have the path to even mediocre success laid out before your eyes and to see just how long and winding that path is still. But to be surprised at all that FS1 spent so much time talking with the St John's AD is probably just a tad naive. In my opinion.

Not to try and diminish anything, but I think Northwestern is still going to be a good team. The pattern for them under Collins has been to start off slow (not really doing anything impressive in the non-con) but right about conference season things start to really click for them and they start to become a much better team.

A lot more hustle this year on defense especially inside. The guards showing the added year of experience. Nicea and Janay will add a whole lot to the team in leadership and experience. We can afford to bring them back cautiously so they are fully healed for conference games. Although only playing a Division II team still a nice win.

As I stated in the game thread, 72.2 % from the charity stripe will keep the Huskers in some games this year. One other thing is that it looks like it will be a long bench again this year. I know some people don't that that is a good idea, but with the type of game coach wants to play it will tire them out and will need the all of the bench.
