    Nicea's Injury

Hearing that Nicea's rehab is going well, and even a little ahead of schedule. She should be back for the San Juan Shootout at the latest. Could even suit up Sunday. Janay isn't too far behind Nicea with her recovery.

  4. It clearly isn't Coach Amy's scheme to live or die with three shooting. She has said so, and her past teams indicate that too. But it is a part of the plan, and we have several that can shoot from long distance. In today's basketball, men and women, 3's are raining down. In the last game several players were driving to the basket....it obviously has been emphasized in practice. Coaches overall team scheme isn't fully in place yet, not enough time or games yet. But it is clearly on going.....she has said so in press conferences/articles. Hanah and Bria have been making assists with regularity. While it's early in the season, I'd guess they're leading the team in assists, and that's one of the primary goals of a point guard in Coaches scheme. (most teams obviously) As a team we're making far more assists than our opponents thus far.......may have been one of their weaknesses. Team chemistry.....the players clearly enjoy playing together. Particularly compared to the last couple of years. The ego thing is in check, they're sharing the ball. The fast beak in the last game with Bria and Maddie was classic basketball. It seems to me anyway, one of the big reasons the team is turning around is the improvement in chemistry...players/players and players/coaches.

  5. What u r referencing Huskerfrank r player and team growth issues that will occur over time. It's not a chemistry issue. The kids like each other, respect the program and each other, want to be here for the right reasons and are learning how to work and play. That's how the foundation is laid. Then it will build from there.

  6. Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-0) vs St John's Red Storm (2-0) Date: Thursday, Nov. 16Time: 5:30 p.m. Arena: Carnesecca Arena, Queens, NY (Cap 5,602) TV Broadcast: FS1 (FoxSportsGo) St John's Head Coach: Chris Mullin Location: Jamaica, NY (Queens) Conference: Big East Nickname: Officially: Red Storm. Unofficially: Johnnies, Redmen Mascots: Johnny Thunderbird Last time out: Beat Central Connecticut 80-55 Typical Rotation Depth: 9 Line: Saint John's by 7 4 Factors: Great at turning over teams, good shooting, poor rebounding on both ends Tempo: Run and Gun Style: Frantic 3pt shooting combined with defensive on ball pressure Impress you friend's facts: St. John's is 9th all time in all time Div 1 wins Impress you friend's facts: Before NBA stardom Mullin played for St John's in the early 80s and led them to their only Final 4 in 1985 under legendary coach Lou Carnesecca. He is still the school's all time leading scorer. Impress you friend's facts: Chris Mullin and assistant coach Mitch Richmond along with Tim Hardaway Sr were known as the dynamic scoring Trio "Run TMC" for Golden State for two magical years. Impress you friend's facts: St. John's has generated 30+ points off of turnovers in the last 2 games Notable Injuries Nebraska: Anton Gill (Questionable), Thomas Allen (Questionable) Seems likely that Gill still won't play in this one. I think we'd prefer to rest Allen here given that it's a long season and I doubt Miles wants to throw the freshman into the deep end right now. If Watson gets into foul trouble you might see Allen check into this one. Player to watch: Shamorie Ponds and Marcus LoVett The 6'1" sophomore SG just oozes talent, leading the team in rebounding while currently 2nd on the team in scoring. He can score anywhere on the court and it's a matter of containing him vs stopping him. You could say most of the same things about PG Marcus LoVett. A lot of people consider the duo to be the best backcourt in the Big East Player to watch: Justin Simon The Johnnies shoot a lot of 3s but Arizona Transfer Simon doesn't. The physically imposing 6'5" guard is going to take you to the rim or pull up for a jumper. How well did we read the scouting report? Will the guys bite on a pump fake at the 3 for a guy who doesn't shoot them? Player to watch: Marvin Clarke The Michigan St transfer is a classic Izzo 6'7" 230 PF capable of hitting from outside and playing some center. His versatility is noteworthy as he's either the small ball center with an extra shooter or the 4 paired with one of the shot blocking but offensively limited centers. The Skinny: This really isn't a pivotal game for either team; it's a nice little matchup for two High Major teams to gauge where they're at early in the season. St John's is in their 3rd year under Mullin who has been increasing the talent and expectations. After 2 losing season the Red Storm is picked by many to finish in the middle of the Big East with a shot at making the tourney. St John's is completely guard driven with LoVett, Ponds, and Simon dominating the minutes and scoring. Beefy freshman Bryan Trimble adds some 3pt shooting along with tweener Bashir Ahmed. Supporting Clark in the backcourt are shot-blockers Yakwe and Owens. Also in play is seldom used senior center Amar Alibegovic who joins Clark as the only Johnnie weighing over 220lbs Offensively, St. John's is Creighton-Lite, attacking either the basket or from the 3 quickly and through great ball movement. Defensively, they're trying to hurry you into mistakes and turnovers, which in turn generates more offense; the Red Storm have scored 30+ points in their first two games off of turnovers. If you've followed St. John's at all you know that with those great guards comes a shaky front court and serious rebounding issues so Nebraska doesn't necessarily have to outshoot the Red Storm if they can grab second chance rebounds. Speaking of rebounds, just how good are the Huskers? The loss of Morrow and Jacobson hurt the most in the rebounding department and the Huskers with Roby, Jordy, and Copeland have looked serviceable thus far. What happens when you need to rebound against a team with actual players over 6'9"? Nebraska hasn't necessarily been tested here. Miles already talked about slowing down this road game against a team that thrives on speed. Offensively look for the Huskers to attack the rim anytime to St. John's goes small and to attack the foul prone post players when they go big. Anti-turnover machine Glynn Watson should hopefully handle the ball a lot in this one and look for James Palmer to finally get back on track. While I think this is a better 3pt shooting team that we've shown, look for the Huskers to continue driving into the lane and drawing fouls; they'll be here against this team. Look for a small rotation of players tonight with Watson, Palmer, Taylor, Roby, and Copeland dominating the minutes. St. John's will take and make 3s this game...it's what they do. Miles will attempt to keep his quickest and most athletic players on the court to counteract the Johnnies ability to space the floor and to limit those attempts. At the end of the day though the name of the game is turnovers and that is where tempo really comes into play. Can Nebraska make St John's bend to its will? Will St John's turn this into a track meet? It will be Nebraska's ability to limit them and the easy points that will make St John's have to outshoot Nebraska by a large margin to win. Look for the upperclassmen back court of Nebraska to be up to the challenge. Prediction: Nebraska 80 - St John's 76 View full article

    2018 recruiting

Sounds like the grad transfer/ and 4 or 5 star transfer and sit out a year is really the best way for us to accumulate talented players. Obviously we would all love to sign 4 and 5 star HS kids but I think Miles is finding its really damn tough. Hopefully he can keep landing the transfer guys and hit on the HS kids he is signing. The homer in me can't wait to have our version of Khyri Thomas-- in state kid who develops into a 4 year BALLER

Miles insinuated in one of his radio talks that he's waiting for some of the dust to settle on this Adidas kerfuffle and that there might be some transfer opportunities available when that all shakes out.

  17. Have our size be an advantage and use it to exploit their lack of size not the other way around. Our bigs were essentially neutralized in the first game. Cant let St. Johns do that to us.

    Scouting St John's

It will be interesting to see how Tim uses the lineups. If our bigs can exploit St. Johns lack of size then we can keep Jordy/Duby/Tanner on the floor for most of the game. That would limit the amount of minutes Glynn, James, and Evan all have to play together since none of them really have a back up due injuries. Idk if it will work, but i'd like to see a two gaurd lineup with James, Glynn, and Evan rotating in and out of those two spots. Have Jack, Zay, and Copeland man the 3 and 4. And some combination of our bigs at the 5. Is it game time yet???!

    2017 Gavitt Games Schedule

Not to try and diminish anything, but I think Northwestern is still going to be a good team. The pattern for them under Collins has been to start off slow (not really doing anything impressive in the non-con) but right about conference season things start to really click for them and they start to become a much better team.

  36. We still have a long ways to go but I love how our players really hustle and care about each other. You can see it in their unselfish play. Our team is very young and will continue to learn more about each other and about the higher level of competition facing us. The next two games should give us a good indicator on our progress.

  37. Over the past 2-3 years I have this searing vision of Husker players desperately running/jumping in futile attempts to contest opposing players draining 3s. Much of this seemed to be lack of a Big and doubling down in the paint, and wasn't quite as prevalent last year. It will be interesting to see what happens this season with our increased size and length.

  39. I couldn't watch the game last night, but watched the replays on the Husker site. Looks from the replays anyway, we're driving much better to the basket. Looking for open players is becoming much more in play. ...assists. Did anyone else notice Kissinger driving to the basket with both right and left hands. Shoots right handed, but can use both hands dribbling. She's obviously going to have 4 years for the Husker record books. She has a complete game,....maybe more so than any true freshman in many years. Cain and Taylor are from the get go.... go to players already. (I'm biased though) Maddie looks to be a force this year. Her change in position to forward better fits her game, and her gives her more opportunities to rebound. Coach Amy's game style is ideal for Maddie's skills and mindset. Really great to see her athleticism put to work. Coming together as a team very, very nicely ! Not that I'm counting......but anybody notice we're 3-0. Last years win record is being threatened already.

Nice work, KM. Wish an ACL injury on a young lady you've never met, who changed her commitment only when the HUSKERS didn't stick with the coach she was recruited by and signed with. Proud to have you as a Nebraska fan. You have the maturity level of an 8 year old, not to mention a mean spirit. Hide behind that keyboard and keep lobbing bombs, big guy. Would love to see a player's parent find out your pitiful identity and see how that ends for you.
