As I was sitting watching the game and listening to the young family behind me trying to keep their youngest entertained. They do a great job by the way 4 under the age of 7 I think the mom said, second year behind me and they are wonderful. Any how that made me look at two of my three that were with me. I started bringing them, one at a time then all three, more than 20 some years, as my oldest is 29 and I pretty sure I started him when he was at least 3 or 4. But then it kind of hit me that this is my 52 year of Nebraska Basketball, but will be the first without my Mom. She passed in April after suffering a stroke last October. She is the one that started taking me to games when I was 4 because my dad worked nights and I think I might have needed to burn off some energy back then. I went to games with her until I was in Jr. High and started going with friends. Mom never went to games with me after that but I know that she and Dad watched them on T.V. I just want to say "Thanks Mom for starting my love of Nebraska Basketball" I know the day when we do win that first NCAA game that I will think back to me making Mom announce my name and I would run into the my bed room and jump into bed. "Starting at forward, a 4'6" Junior from Lincoln Nebraska..."8 points -
Think about how incredibly benign this all is and how unaccommodating Eichorst was. Now imagine the staff trying to figure out anything to help them win games and how some of those benign requests might have been handled. Try not to have as much smoke coming out of your ears as I do.4 points

I didn't think about it until today but I distinctly remember Jordy making two passes in the post to set up teammates for baskets; that wasn't there last year. He finished the game with 2 assists / zero turnovers. Last year his numbers were 8 assists/46 turnovers3 points

Put up 122 points on their first opponent. Granted, they weren't exactly playing Northwoods, but still. Scoring 122 points would be good against ... the team managers. Anyway, they're coached by Grant McCasland, who spent one year at Arkansas State last year and improved their record from 11-20 in 2015-16 to 20-11 his first season, which included a road win against G'town. And now, he's at North Texas. And I'll just leave this here:2 points -

My concern with Jack is that offensively he is taking on the appearance of a one-trick-pony. Perhaps that is his stated role, but he seems to gravitate to the three point line, and currently shows little versatility. As a result, he is not getting any open looks. Now that I say that, Coach Miles did have a complaint last night with some players being a bit selfish on offense. He specifically mentioned James. He took the ball to the hole and he had two or three people collapse on him. If our spacing is correct, that should mean two players are wide open. I think once we get into offensive rhythm, we are going to find those open players and will reap the benefits. At least that is my hope... And oh yes, lest I forget, welcome aboard Faux Mike Peltz2 points -

Hi all. First post but long time die hard season ticket holder. Would consider myself one of the “6500” Lee B has made reference to. EIU was a strange team to gauge, feisty, sneaky athletic, and played loose. I wish Jordy had improved over the summer for better post moves but he does give us some rebounding. Jack had a play on a rebound where he didn’t quite squeeze it and it got poked away. On to North Texas.2 points -

Once the initial excitement wore off after 5 minutes, I think we kind of shied away from the feisty play EIU brought, outside of Roby blocking every shot taken in the city limits. The way he was going I thought he might get another block or two from the locker room on the little kids at halftime. Took a long time for NU to ratchet up the intensity level again after the first media timeout. EIU just outscrapped us for a good chunk of the game. Jordy struggled offensively, but I thought he was the guy that really got our attitude back in the 2nd half. He started throwing his body around and I felt like he got the guys going. He also did a nice job shielding defenders in the lane in the 2nd half, opened up some driving lanes. And he had 2-3 great passes out of the post. So he certainly struggled - mightily - in some aspects, but I was encouraged that he found other ways to contribute. After Turner was on the bench for that long stretch in the 2nd half, I thought he brought some nastiness on the boards too when he came back in. This team needs its big guards to rebound. And Glynn just took over late, showed a lot of toughness, because you could tell he was hurting. Liked the way Allen played. He has a big time confidence to his game. Certainly wasn't perfect, but never shied away from anything either. When NU asked him to guard EIU's #2, I was really concerned, but I thought he did a nice job staying in front of him. When you think about where guys like Glynn and Tai were as true freshmen & where they are now/ended up, tons and tons of upside coming for Allen if he can follow that same trajectory.2 points -

Game Day Essentials: Game #2 vs North Texas

Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-0) vs North Texas Mean Green (1-0) Date: Monday, Nov. 13Time: 7:00 p.m. Arena: Pinnacle Bank Arena TV Broadcast: No (Internet broadcast via BTN+, a $$ service) North Texas Head Coach: Grant McCasland Location: Denton, TX Conference: Conference USA Nickname: Mean Green Mascots: Scrappy the Eagle Last time out: Beat Eureka! College 122-65 Typical Rotation Depth: Probably 8-10 Line: Nebraska by 14.5 4 Factors: N/A Tempo: Probably faster Style: Pressure Chiefs Shirt not to wear: Green, anything that says Texas Fun Fact: Former Husker assistant Tony Benford was the head coach but was fired this March. Former assistant David Anwar was THIS CLOSE to returning back to Nebraska Fun Fact: The Mean Green play their games at the "Super Pit" Player to watch: Roosevelt Smart The sophomore SG is the most consistent 3pt shooter for a team that doesn't seem to have a ton of 3pt shooting nor height. Is 7-11 from long range when you include their exhibition. Mean Green Nation has a rundown of the roster if want to read more The Skinny: Tony Benford is out and has been replace by up and coming Grant McCasland. This team has 8 new players, mostly made up of freshmen and sophomores. Their first game beating some Division III team probably produced worthless game tape. They had a close exhibition game vs Houston Baptist that has lost on the road by 30 to Providence. Everything points to this team running and gunning. It's a team Nebraska can shut down if they care enough and destroy in the paint with their lack of size. Probably the biggest concern is the lack of scouting we can do on this team. Miles and company are top notch scouters but when something unexpected comes along (Dererk Pardon anyone) it often times kills the Huskers. This Mean Green team is a mystery box. The Huskers looked like a team capable of making the NCAA tournament and executed like a team that looks to finish in the basement of the B1G. Who shows up tonight? Keep an eye on North Texas. They were 8-22 a year ago. McCasland manufactured quite a turnaround in his only year at Arkansas State. Another similar turnaround at North Texas and some bigger name programs are going to start taking notice. He's a Baylor alum and was an assistant to Scott Drew there before taking the Arkansas State job last year. He's not much younger than Drew, though, so it probably doesn't make sense to bide his time until Drew retires and then take over at his alma mater. Have no idea how long he plans to be at North Texas but if he turns them around as quickly as he turned around Arkansas State, he's going to get a shot at a bigger program soon.1 point -

The best ADs clearly state their vision and expectations, provide you with anything you need financially or resource wise to facilitate your success, and then GTF out of the way. Eichorst only took care of the financial side and resource side (as I believe all Husker programs have the finances and resource to be National contenders in all sports).1 point -

I almost always have trouble with Huskers.com audio and video. Usually have to refresh or reopen it multiple times just to get it started and then it cuts out/stops quite often. Probably a combination of internet connection, wifi (if being used) and crappy software. I tend to blame the latter for the lion's share of the problem since the glitches are evident across multiple platforms (i.e., home (direct connection & wifi), work (excellent connection with plenty of bandwidth) & mobile).1 point

Certainly agree with EIU being a bad matchup for McVeigh - and apologies if my reply earlier came off a bit harsh or anti-Jack. We're a better team if he's playing and contributing. I guess my thought is that he only is going to play the 4 for us - maybe he gets minutes at the 3 in a big lineup where we're playing zone. Defensively, he just can't guard a 3 or a 5, I don't believe. So at the 4 he's competing with Roby & Copeland for minutes. To take minutes from those guys, he has to be scoring, because he can't match Roby's rebounding and defense, and Copeland is just going to get better and better the healthier he gets/more minutes he plays - I liked his mid-range game last night and really am looking forward to seeing him make progress. But when Jack is hot offensively, he can score in bunches, which I don't think those other two can do. For those reasons, It's going to be tough for the coaches to plan on playing McVeigh 20 min a game. He's the kind of player where I think he gets 5-7 min in the first half, and if he's scoring, you leave him in. If he's quiet like last night, he doesn't get many more minutes because you have some other really good options. He's going to have some big games, and some games like he had last night I'd guess. Love to see him earn more playing time, because that means he's scoring, and that makes us better.1 point -

What still amazes me is that Andre was 1980 Big 8 Player of the Year, started at Center, and was all of 6'6". The strength, the footwork, the guile and oh those sideburns. For those that never saw him play, he was a LOAD down low, even at 6'6"1 point -
Handy - yes 82-83 was Stan Cloudy's first year - of 2, he was a JUCO transfer. Starters that year were David Ponce, Greg Downing, Cloudy, Claude Renfro and Hoppen. The other center on the 81-82 team was Lenard Johnson. Lenard actually started most of the games in front of Terry Smith. They were both 6-6. Terry Smith was bulky and very athletic. Lenard was not athletic at all - even though he was 6-6 he could barely dunk at all. Remember sitting in the bleachers during warmups and Jaime Williams from the football team was giving Lenard a bad time challenging him to try to dunk.1 point

I thought that Jack played pretty good D last night. When he comes in his "job" is to stand and wait for the pass. He got one. So not all his fault for the rather weak stat line. He is a heady player, just a bit slow against that team.1 point -

A few other idle thoughts: 1) We ran one zone set (1-3-1). I believe that our length was causing issues, but the little 5'1" dude hit a tough shot. We didn't go back to it. 2) Perhaps the crowd would be a bit more spry IF they turned down the heat five or ten degrees. Just saying... 3) Game PA announcer still does meet my expectations.1 point -

EIU reminded me of that fly that gets in your car and keeps flying around you when you are driving down the interstate. You can't hit him well enough to kill him and when he is on the window you roll it down and he is pushed into the back seat where he then comes back and flies around your face again. They are a team that hangs with you, makes you work hard, shoots and makes some shots that shouldn't go in, and are smaller so you which makes for match up problems on D. As always a win is a win. 1-0 baby!1 point -
