When I was five my dad took my to my first Nebrasketball Game n February 1989 against #14 Kansas, a game which the Huskers would win. My dad taught me the basics of the game. From that moment on, I was a die-hard Nebrasketball fan. There are many memorable players I've seen play in my lifetime. I have vague memories of Dapreis Owens, Rich King, Beau Reid, and Bruce Chubick. I enjoyed watching guys like Eric Piatkowski, Tony Farmer, Derrick Chandler, Mikki Moore, Venson Hamilton, Larry Florence, Cookie Belcher, Steffon Bradford, Brian Conklin, Kimani Ffriend, Ryan Anderson, Lance Jeter, Dylan Talley, Benny Parker, Shavon Shields, and Terran Petteway play. In my 33+ years, my favorite players have been Erick Strickland, Aleks Maric, Tyronn Lue, and Terrance Badgett. It's time to add Tai Webster to this list. I've been a huge fan of Tai since he committed to Nebraska. As we all know, he came in with very high expectations. Tai was very inconsistent his freshman and sophomore seasons, however his junior season was respectful. Tai's senior season has been one of the best I can recall. 15.5 ppg, 5.2 boards, and 4.0 assists per game, while playing just under 35 minutes a game. Yes he's missed his fair share of free throws and commits far too many turnovers, but to me, there is something very special about Tai. Scored in double figures in has last 30 games, became just the fourth player in school history to have 500 points and 100 assists in the same season, and will likely finish his Husker career in the top-25 career scoring list. A glance at his collegiate stats shows Tai has improved in FG%, 3P%, FT%, and scoring in each of his four seasons. Stats aside, Tai brings something else to team. Heart. When things were not going well, he could have left Nebraska and played overseas. He stayed, worked hard in the weight-room and became a well-respected leader. His smile and personality are infectious. He loves interacting with Husker fans and is often seen posing for pics with kids. With Indiana defeating Ohio State earlier today, a Husker victory Sunday night against Michigan gives up the 10th seed. That being said, Husker fans need to come out to PBA tommorrow and thank Tai Webster for being a class act on and off the court. Thanks Tai.11 points -

Red Zone Plans for Senior Day
Silverbacked1 and one other reacted to jimmykc for a topic
Are there any? I remember some speculation about doing something special for Webster in earlier threads. Certainly he deserves it for his massive contributions this year, for his improvement over his career, and most of all for his tenacity and persistence. I can't help but feel most players would have taken the transfer route given the same circumstances. If no special plans are being made perhaps the red zone can recycle their old fake mustaches, serapes, and sombreros and try another "senor" day. This could be followed by a mass expulsion which would save the administration a lot of time and trouble. And I hope they are not planning to be rowdy with our guests from Ann Arbor. I hope everyone noted the barbarian student section from Minnesota who chanted "air ball" at McVeigh during the whole game trying to make him feel bad.How despicable!2 points -

Not sure school size matters. Much of the evaluation is done during AAU participation. Still, being from a small school isn't a curse. Jordan Hooper, Karen Jennings, Nicole Kubic, Amy Stephens, Anna DeForge, and even Kelsey Griffin weren't Metro area kids. They seemed to do OK. Having said the above, I have no dog in this fight. For the Lady Huskers benefit, I hope this girl is the real deal. GBR2 points

i don't see the rush in firing miles. the current team is about 90% underclassmen and we're adding 3 top 150 guys next year. i like all the assistants, and i like our roster. attendance is still high. we just need a strong offseason and add in some new offensive and defensive schemes. this doesn't seem like the time to blow things up. we're closer than our record would indicate.2 points -
Actually I think that is the worst thing we could do. If you don't give him the extension/renewal now you are really tying his hand with recruiting. That is what SE will do if he truly wants to get rid of Miles but doesn't think he has the political power to do it right now - keep him but don't extend the contract so that you set him up for failure down the road. If SE wants to fire Miles he should do it now. Otherwise you give him the extension and see what happens next year. You can't fail to renew a coaches contract two years in a row and expect him to succeed long term. I want Tim to stay because I think we have made progress during his tenure overall and I don't think this is a good time to start over. But I would rather see us fire him now than keep him and not renew/extend his contract after this season.2 points

I am starting this thread so that people can weigh in without looking at the old thread which has become a bad luck anchor to this site. There are legitimate reasons for letting Tim go and i would encourage those who feel that way to chime in. I would start this thread with the premise that he deserves one more year with the players and assistants he has assembled. With a different schedule and no unexpected departures like AWIII, he just might pull a Pitino Jr. next year with a little luck. I agree that the team looks totally gassed and I do not expect this year to end well.1 point

I think you were joking Norm, but it is actually exactly what they should be trying to do. Teams that don't get the best players, should strive to be great from the 3 point line and should strive to shoot a whole bunch of them and have all sorts of ways to get open ones.1 point -

Media have been wrong before. I don't think Miles is gone. I think he'll be back. And, if he does come back, I think they have some homework in the off-season: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/team-plagiarizes-warriors’-playbook-team-can’t-lose/ar-AAnJxU9?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp It should be noted that not everything South Plains does comes straight from the Warriors’ playbook. The Texans run weaves in transition, and Green is fond of some principles of the motion offense. Most of the time, though, he is channeling Golden State. That means fewer pick-and-rolls in favor of greater movement away from the ball, including flare screens and back screens designed to spring shooters free from defenders. The ball zips from teammate to teammate. “For a long time in the N.B.A., people got away from the five-man game,” Kerr said in a telephone interview on Wednesday as he discussed the impact his team was having on college programs. “It was more of an isolation game. But people are going smaller and faster. And for us, I think the key is that we don’t hold the ball. We almost always have five playmakers on the floor. The ball moves, and nobody dominates it.”1 point -

straightaway speed may be a different issue. i remember hearing a trainer being interviewed on the radio many years ago (man, may be close to 20 years now). anyway, he stated that speed is hard to train for-----you either have it or you don't. at the time, he stressed he MAY be able to knock 2, possibly 3 tenths off your time, but, in his opinion it is very difficult. that interview has always stuck in my mind when people start talking "speed". now, i will admit, maybe things have changed since i heard that interview. i don't know. maybe new techniques have evolved that allow a person to get speedier. is AB the fleetest of foot? no, but, imo, there were moments you saw she could get down the court pretty well----for her height.1 point

I was squarely in TM's corner two weeks ago. I'm not anymore. I'm fairly certain we will finish the season with 12 wins. I didn't expect a good year with the schedule and loss of White, but 12 wins is 100% unacceptable. This is his 5th year and even with all of the issues we have had this season, there is enough talent on this roster to finish with more than 12 wins. Yeah, we gave Collier and Doc more time. Expectations have changed though due to facility upgrades and Collier and Doc are not some sort of threshold. I like Miles, but we really don't owe him anything outside of what's left on his contract. A lot of people think that our roster will blow up if we make a change. It might. There will probably be players leaving this year anyway even if he is retained though. If we brought him back, Miles would virtually be on the hot seat after every loss. If we had another poor or even average season, he's gone. That sophomore class would be about finished with their junior years and some could grad transfer out. If Miles comes back next year, I will support the heck out of him. I'm really thinking we should move on though. We won 12 games in year 5 and consistently play poor basketball.1 point -

I'm nervous, and i don't want Tim to be fired, because basically all of our top underclassmen have their redshirt year so the threat of talen exodus is real in my eyes. And I really like miles and I think he is on the verge, and to be honest I'm tired of change, I'm more on the boat on erstad being let go than miles but that's a whole mother conversation... that being said I wouldn't be surprised at all if we let him go and we start the merry go round again, and I have zero confidence that SE would open up the books and pay for a big time coach, mid major for the 4th time here we come1 point

I hear you, but there's gonna be a transfer. As long as there isn't a second player to leave, we'll be fine. And if one of the coaches gets a chance to be a head coach, I'm not gonna fault them if they take it. And we don't need exponential growth. We need incremetal growth across the board. If a couple of them grow more than that (like Roby or Jordy), that would be ideal.1 point -

You guys fail to distinguish between levels of d-1. Every kid on the roster could go to a different d-1 school and get a scholarship. I certainly agree very few could go to another power 5 school. Probably only a handful. But what isn't being factored into the rough record is also that brutal schedule we played. Very hard non conf with the small schools such as drake and creighton ending up being top 25 teams who won conferences, the bad draw on the big teams we played twice all being in upper half and 2 being in top 3, and then the lower half teams we got a larger share on the road and u want those to be home Gms because they r more winnable. Combine that with a new system and youth and it was a struggle. However schedule and experience alone and no new players we will still be substantially better next year. Add the transfers and other new kids and redshirt and if healthy we will be close to 500 I predict. If we add another quality big either from Europe Jc or 5th year kid and I think we could have a fun year and maybe win half or more. Certainly not the long term goal but good progress1 point -

would have liked to see hannah get to the line more. actually, i thought that quite often, especially when we started to see hannah start to come into her own. against illinois, it was a little difficult because they clogged the lane pretty well, but, there were a handful of opportunities there for her to maybe draw some fouls going to the hoop. anyway, it has been great to watch hannah blossom as she adjusted to the college game. future looks bright for her. i think the team "foot speed" was a sore spot that was pretty obvious all season. i am sure something coach williams will try to address during the off season and going forward. there were teams (players) that were able to exploit that area.1 point -

I'm all about the defense too, I find myself more intently watching that than I do the offense during games. If you can play a good solid defense you can win a lot of games. The coaches had to play a lot of zone this year because we had to many players who couldn't stop the dribble drive, especially when they're were in the man to man. That's coincides with why we had too many players giving up open 3 point shots. They didn't want to get beat off the dribble so they guarded their opponent five feet off them so they might have a chance at stopping that drive, that and our help defense has been missing in a lot of games. I think it should be one of the big emphasis that the coaches need to address with all returning players all through-out this coming off season.1 point -

It seems this discussion will continue to go on until something happens. It is sad in my book that the enthusiasm that was created by the Miles hire has gone mostly away. I can remember going to games in the past when Danny Nee was coach and the Nebraska team I see now isn't even close. The coach gets called out on this board and others after each game for his poor in game player management. I personally don't see a whole lot of difference in Miles or Doc. Both teams play poorly for long stretches and both are sub par at shooting free throws. No amount of talent will fix these things. I liked Doc and I like Tim both are losers. Get a real coach no matter where you have to go. Big money will not necessarily fix this mess. We can go into detail about the Miles era and we can find many good high lights. Maybe we can agree to disagree that he is not the one. A good coach coaches to the strengths of his teams and recruits to the strength of his coaching ability, Tim does neither. I like what the assistants have brought to Nebrasketball and think Craig Smith was a good balancing factor to Miles. I feel he knew the players better. I believe Miles is gone. Then again maybe he will get retained and super things will happen. Thankfully we have a bunch of loyal fans that fill the arena and Lincoln is getting large enough to fill it almost by itself. I believe we can do a lot better. tux-1 points

Very true, Jimmy. And another lens into Eichorst's views. Miles is not his kind of guy. He could survive that winning, I suspect. But now it makes it easy for SE to do what he wanted to do anyway. Looking back, it was basically over when AW III transferred and SE didn't extend Miles' contract. Then Gill and Ed went down, and the fat lady sang.-1 points
