  1. Definitely not. I actually visit the site most days and follow along during games. I think Tai is a prime example of why we need to remember the guys on the team are just kids and that just because they will have bad games or bad seasons it doesnt make them bad players.

  2. The problem I have with all of this is that would it be automatic that a different coach would have won these last two games if placed in a similar situation? We are down 2 scholarship guys from where we started this year. Excuse? Sure. The truth? Yes. Is Miles out of excuses? Maybe. The way I see it, the expectations have increased. Which they should, but I don't think there's any way a team in any of our previous regimes would be expected to win two league games down 2 guys. We weren't in the winning conversation before even at full strength. A league game was just a loss going in most of the time. I don't believe in moral victories because they don't count in the W column, but we've now played every single one of our league games within 8 points. It's hard to ignore the competitive nature of this team, look at the makeup of the roster, and be eager to get rid of Miles. That's just me. Wouldn't make any sense in my opinion. I've watched to much Nebrasketball to just assume that they next guy isn't going to have the same struggles. Some people just assume the next guy is the right answer. These last two two games are making things difficult to swallow. Ohio State. Rutgers. Two everyone thinks we should've had. Maybe it would be easier to just go back to being blown out.

  3. On the plus side today, creighton just gave up a 100+ and got beat by Marquette. btw, crowd did not look real into it on TV at the clink. I wonder if the scribes will bust their chops as much as they do Husker fans at the Vault? If the crowd was more into the game, could have willed them to the win. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

The thing with the haka is it needs to be done properly to avoid disrespecting its tradition. At my high school in New Zealand we would practise the haka many times before any event where the school would need to perform one. Getting the actions and pronouncing Maori words right is pretty important to doing it justice so the school Maori language teacher would make sure it was up to a standard and teach us of the meaning behind it. A blackout would be a cool way to celebrate Tai on senior night. Im sure he would appreciate it.

  6. This is about where I thought we would be. Granted the way we got here is very different that I could've expected but nevertheless we are here. 3-4 record W - Indiana W - Maryland W - Iowa L - Northwestern L - Michigan L - Ohio State L - Rutgers Where I had us 4-3 record L - Indiana L - Maryland W - Iowa W - Northwestern L - Michigan W - Ohio State W - Rutgers The last two losses come on last second shots/putbacks and the previous two are lost by three or less possessions each. I'm not saying there are any moral victories here by any means but this team is not far from flipping a couple of those L's into W's. the last two are excruciating gut punches but this team has tremendous toughness and will get back to work only to get better. It is tough sledding without Ed Morrow down low and that really hurts to know how much he effects the game in a positive way for us. It was great that we started off conference play 3-0 and there was a lot of talk about those three wins and that we could beat anyone in the conference on any given night, yada yada yada...Well, THAT IS STILL TRUE!!!! Yes we are on a four game skid right now, have some injury issues, fair weather fans are down on the team and people are calling for Miles to be fired (which is ridiculous, but hey, people will always call for the coach to be fired when losing, just the way people are, no matter who is the coach). So don't lose your heads yet Husker fans. Still a lot of games to go. This team has a lot of potential. We've seen how they can play. A win today would've got that good feeling back to take on the road to NW next week. But since we didn't get it, what are they to do? Quit? Say "we suck, we are on a four game skid, our hopes for any postseason play are over". No. Get back to work. Have some good practices and get the positive feelings flowing again, heads held high and go get a W at Northwestern. I know a lot of people on this board are not going to give up on this team/program. I just can't stand the people that are going to ride the highs and leave them for dead when we hit the lows. Go Big Red #Nebrasketball #USAlways

  8. You have to give the scriptwriters credit: While we may all be able to predict the gut-wrenching ending of a Nebrasketball season, how we get there always has a few wrinkles.

  10. I think we tried too hard to get Watson a blow in the 2nd half. We took him out up 7 and by the time, we get him back in, we are up 2, or tied. Ed is a huge missing piece, especially down the stretch. In our wins against Indiana and Maryland, he came up with some huge plays on the offensive glass. Can't let this game, hang with us. Need to forget about it, and continue to improve.

  11. Let me first say that I DON'T think Miles should be fired. Our two best players have either fell or lost the ball in the last 30 seconds on critical plays that both end up costing us. Having said that, what a roller coaster for Miles. Hot seat after Gardner Webb, 3 game win streak to get us and the National media excited, now potential hot seat talk will pry be back in full swing. All I know is that there can't be many fan bases left that have to endure the F'N agony that is Nebrasketball. This f'N sucks so much.

  14. Who was suppose to replace White and Shields this year? No one expected Tai to be 2nd in the conference in scoring this year. He averaged 10.0 points per game last year. Now, he is at 18.1 points per game. Watson, averaged 8.6 points per game last year, is now avg. 14.8 points per game. He shot 26.7% from 3 last year, and this year is shooting 42.5% from 3. Contrary to popular belief, players have improved under Miles. Turner is playing much better. Next year, we will have more depth to help us withstand injuries. We have a backcourt of: Watson, Turner, Gill, and Palmer. We have wings of: Roby, Horne, McVeigh, and Nana. We have a frontcourt of: Morrow, Jacobson, Jordy, and Copleand.

  15. Would we be playing Tai and Glynn so many minutes if Anton was still in the lineup? Those guys are starting to look gassed at the end which is another way you lose in the last second.

Ive been able to find online streams for about half of his games and have listened to Kent P on most of the others. Its been great to see him succeeding. Its scary how similar he is playing now to how he did as a 16/17 year old back here, slashing to the hoop and pushing the ball in transition.

  22. I tried, and failed, to learn the Haka at Rotorua, New Zealand last May. Audience members were invited in stage at the Maori Cultural Centerbto participate. Wearing a black shirt with the Silver fern would be a great tribute to Tai Webster.

  23. Haka's out. NCAA regs...but. Since New Zealand uses the color black and the fern symbol for most/all of their sports teams, perhaps a PBA black out is in order for senior night. The AD could provide some T-Shirts too:

I'm pretty sure I have never down voted anyone on this board...ever...until just now. ...and it was a reflex action too, not like I had to think about it or anything, just read and "where's the down arrow". I may or may not have also said BOOM a la Tom Eades when doing it too. My point is, no it is NOT okay to be a Jaysker. No No No NOOOOOOOO! Snap out of it @brfrad

  29. Not saying an under .500 record isn't possible as we do play in the Big 10. However... we have 9 wins and when a 20 win season is also still possible, there is too much time left to say we will be under .500.

  34. Northwestern had 25 points at half against this same Rutgers team. They played against Rutgers about the same way we are. They shot 26% from the floor, and 15% from 3. Good news: we are 4 - 4 from the line. Let's just hope we can play the 2nd half like they did.

  42. Well said - Tai is the perfect example for anyone who goes through some struggles. The way he has just put his head down and worked and worked and worked -- rather than sulking and giving up and going somewhere else, as a lot of players would have -- has been simply tremendous. He has made himself into an All B1G player. And on top of it all, to be counted on to provide tons of leadership on a really young team and be asked to take and make huge shots late in games, that's a lot on his shoulders this season. Yet he has handled it all tremendously well, answering the bell every game. I hope folks in New Zealand are as proud of what he's done the past 4 years as we are here. He will be a very deserving 28th member of NU's 1000-point club in a few more games.

Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-9) at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (11-8) Date: Saturday Jan. 21 Time: 11 am CST Arena: RAC TV Broadcast: ESPNU Rutgers Info Head Coach: Steve Pikiell Location: Piscataway, NJ Conference: B1G Nickname: Scarlet Knights Last time out: Lost at Indiana Typical Rotation Depth: 10+ Line: Nebraska by 1 Tempo: Middle of the road Style: Very Low 3pt attempt %, Low assists 4 Factors Good: Rebounding on both ends, Shooting Defense 4 Factors Bad: Shooting, holding on to the ball Four Factors Effective FG%: 44.8 329 45.3 21 50.3 Turnover %: 20.4 272 18.9 173 19.0 Off. Reb. %: 38.9 8 28.5 121 29.6 FTA/FGA: 34.0 214 29.4 62 35.3 Rutgers Most frequently used lineup Not worth posting. They swap guys in and out all the time and Corey Sanders is the only lock to play 30+ minutes. Will be interesting to see if they try to match up with what Nebraska puts on the floor or try and outsize the Huskers. Expected Nebraska Starting Lineup 5 Glynn Watson 6-0 175 So 0 Tai Webster 6-4 195 Sr 11 Evan Taylor 6-5 206 Jr 15 Isaiah Roby 6-8 214 Fr 12 Michael Jacobson 6-9 230 So 12.3 Until Ed Morrow comes back Roby seems locked in as your starter. At that point you re-evaluate who comes out. Miles Presser Notes Had a good practice Rutgers has size/physicality Not overly concerned about the travel schedule Rutgers does a lot of things right. Pikell well studied, worked at UConn under Calhoon, won a lot at Stony Brook. Physical team like UConn, not all the skill in the world but guys like Corey Sanders and Mike Williams can get hot. They're one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Talked about the losing streak. Put ourselves into good position and it's going to be a fight every night regardless of if it's Rutgers or anyone in conference Only showed one clip from Ohio St game. Wasn't last game. Was a clip with 2 minutes left and we made 3 tactical errors. Guys have to have the mental maturity to go down their defensive checklist and we could be 5-1 if they did Notes we've been out-rebouneded the 2nd half of every conference game this year. You can't play volleyball with Rutgers An always superstitious Miles wearing the same Muhammad Ali shirt he wore to Maryland and Indiana The only clip the team watched from the Ohio St game Video not supported Made a wrong assumption on Lyle, no one picked up the big man, didn't help in. The Skinny Rutgers is essentially a pretty good defensive team that can't shoot a lick. Defensively they're able to guard the 3pt line aggressively as their front court height and shotblocking ability allows them to clean up when the offense penetrates into the lane. Offensively everything is an attempt to work inside as Rutgers is Nebraska 2014-15 bad at shooting 3s. (They also don't shoot a lot of them) Defensively, Nebraska will need to stay home in their pack and only truly pursue the guys who will take 3s for Rutgers (only the guards and lanky Fr Issa Thiam). Expect Nebraska to really crash the boards on shots today as they try to limit 2nd chance Rutgers points vs fast break opportunities that will come when Rutgers inevitably turns the ball over. Offensively you can draw contact on Rutgers so driving into those trees to draw contact will help the cause and the Huskers will need to capitalize by making some FTs. Rutgers will counter with some zone and whatever they've cooked up with the break so Nebraska will need to be patient in working around the ball at points. Both teams don't figure to have great shooting days so it's really a matter of Nebraska winning the turnover battle more than Rutgers winning the rebounding battle. Expect this one to be uncomfortably close like Rutgers has done at home and look for Nebraska to pull this one out in the end. Prediction: Nebraska 74 - Rutgers 68 View full article

  46. I wasn't able to watch last night, so missed the action. Reading here it sounds like all the fouls crippled us. We're just not deep enough to survive that kind of assault. Can't tell from your descriptions what was happening with Jess....some funny stuff going on ? Penn St had the bench presence apparently to get some points from their bench, and carry the day. Would loved to have seen another freshman...Miss Rylie have a breakout game for NU...good for her. We three freshmen guards and Grace coming on strong too, and they will be a great platform for the future.
