I can firmly attest that it is not a vegetable at least, although Wisconsin's student section may not be aware of that either.

    TP tonight

It might be true that the roller coaster ride will continue, the problem for Nebraska is that Crayton, Incarnate Word & Hawai'i are already in the 'bad loss' category; thus, the Huskers need to win a lot of matchups that are on the road & against great competition. It'll be a rough road to greatness, but the only way to find out is to COMPETE your tails off, Husker hoopsters!

  5. Most interesting stat of the game: Scored tied - three times, Lead changed once. You only have to lead at the end of the game.

Mascot for Minnesota sort of looks like Curious George with an overbite. But back to basketball, the question here is can we make the Gophers play any worse than in Lincoln? This will be very difficult. However, perhaps we could manage a better effort ourselves. This should be easier to do. Which coach will make the necessary adjustments? Tune in tomorrow, boys and girls.

We need to quit falling into the trap of comparing this years' team with last years' just because MOST of the players are the same. Each season is a different proposition. Different personality, variables and numerous other dynamics. I fall back on the "Eyeball" test, does this team look like it can rattle off 5-6 wins in a row? I don't think so. Hope I'm wrong, but our inconsistent play hangs on us like a stink.

I like the philosophy of "one game at a time!" If I allow myself to get wrapped up in the whole bubble thing, I will just drive myself nuts! If you look at the margin of loss with Minnesota, Penn State and Northwestern(all left remaining on our schedule) in conference games, it's crazy to think what their records could be with one more play here or one more made bucket there. I just want the fellas to bounce back from Tuesday nights performance. Win or lose, just have a better showing. I hope they don't hang their heads if the shots aren't falling! Anyone else having Gopher stew for dinner tomorrow night?

Yeah, I would also disagree about having to reach the tourney final. I don't care, if someone wants to be a pessimist on the board then thats ok. Having been on this board for many many many years, I know there are yearly pessimists that just don't want to be let down. Shoot last year I was always saying theres a chance, theres a chance, theres a chance. Even after our Wisconsin game there were some that said we needed a few wins in the tourney still. I said we were in either way. Its all about how everyone views the team, and what not. We are fine, as last year at this time we were 3-5 in the Big 10 and 11-10 overall or something like that. We didn't need to "make the finals" to get there. I remember saying this quote many a times last year, especially after the Michigan loss, and some ridiculed me for it. There is still a chance, and a good chance at that. We just can't falter in games that we need to win, and have to win a few surprisers. Not a LOT, but 1-2. As for me, I have always been an optimist, and I set the goals high. Some people say they would rather be surprised instead of disappointed, but I disagree. If you are surprised, I feel you set your goals too low. If you are disappointed, I believe you set your goals high, and you just didn't get there. To me thats ok because that means we are never giving up until the end. I would rather be disappointed than surprised, and I hope the coaches, and players feel that way as well. Its a message board, these guys one here do not play the game or coach the game... as fas as we all know ... so let them be pessimistic or optimistic. The only ones I need with me being optimistic is the players and the coaches. In the words of a famous sports movie that has nothing to do with basketball........... "Win em, and they will come."

  15. Full of nuggets Beilein was constantly switching defenses any time the Huskers started to look comfortable Only the second time they've seen 1-3-1 and Huskers didn't have anyone from the corner scoring. Mentioned wondering about playing the right guys (Fuller?) Terran was patient and got good looks but all the misses took a toll on him. Shavon had a bad start but finished well Tai didn't play well...didn't seem to come back with the same edge as the last two games - Some guys handle success differently...that might be the case with Tai Miles wasn't surpsised by Aubrey Dawkins, the son of Johnny Dawkins who put up double digits in the first half. Miles tried to recruit him. Miles was telling Molanri to win on the road you need to set the tone defensively and take care of the ball, play with the lead. Molinari replies "You gotta make shots...one way or another you need to make a certain amount of shots." Probably played Rivers too long in the first half. Made a run with him but he was winded and his man hit a couple of 3s on him. Moses wasn't supposed to play due to matchups, specifically Princeton-style teams with mobile 5s. That means you don't see Moses vs Wisconsin or Michigan but you will see him vs Iowa and Maryland. Minny has big 5s plus smaller 4s Our fouls on jump shoots have been a little up which is part of us closing out shooters. On the we're one of the best if defensive FG%. Joked about Terran shooting from 30 Ft during Mich St game and how he'll look at Miles after shots now. "If you're going to stare down anyone after a shot I'd rather it be me" Talked about Avery Harriman and the AveryStrong day Darin Erstad story Asked about offensive philosophy: Has had to take what he's given on every rebuilding project but at the end of the day wants a motion offense that attacks the paint in some manner and takes great shots. Team isn't a good motion team so they run a lot of sets that don't include everybody. For example if TP isn't involved in a play he might just be standing somewhere to space the floor for something else going on. People aren't going to leave TP and hopefully that opens things up for someone like Shavon to drive. Would love the have everyone moving without the ball and run motion but doesn't think we're good enough at it. "The guys don't have it in their DNA and it's hard to change that after X number of years." As we go on, we'll build it. Also, we're expelling a lot of energy on defense plus playing some guys 40 minutes so I need to run sets to give them breathers. Running zone can help but the team is much better in man. After the one possession in zone against MU Shavon came to the bench and said "we don't need that zone crap" Asked about bringing in post players for next year: Talked about Hammond and how it takes time for post players to add physicality (size). Cited Michigan St with top 100 recruits not playing. Talked about Ed Morrow at 6'7" and Michael Jacobson at 6'8" coming in to make an immediate impact next year. Can still play Shavon down low and Andrew White is a terrific athlete on the wing. Still not exactly where we want to be with size. 'I like our younger guys and I recruited them to play. That's how you get a top 25 recruiting class...it's with the idea you are recruiting them to play.' Miles jokes that he burned his zone offense and the black uniforms after returning home from Michigan, noting that we've worn them 3 times with the others being at Creighton and on the road vs Penn St Link to the audio - starts around the 1 hour mark

    TP tonight

I get so sick and tired of fans ragging on TP. The guy is a freaking stud!! Look how many times he is asked to bale us out with tough shots too. And still before last night he was shooting 51% on 2's and 36% on 3's! He may take some bonehead shots, but at the same time he makes a ton of those tough shots. For years and years and years NU fans have bitched and moaned about not having that "go to" guy and now we do and some fans aren't happy. I wanted to wait to post for awhile as I knew in typical message board form that some fans (that never post here) would come on this board and rip the team to pieces after last night. Typical. We have such a "football" fan base that has no idea how to cheer for NU basketball at times and it can drive me nuts. We are an "NCAA team" after 1 win, and a "CBI" team after 1 loss. This isn't football where you play 10-11 games. You play 30 games a year and are going to lose some games you shouldn't, win some that people don't think you should either. The key is to hopefully not dwell on it as a team and try and bounce back. The thing a lot of people forget come NCAA tourney time is that its a long season. Other teams are going to lose games and move on and off the bubble. NOBODY knows for sure what the magic # is to get to the NCAA tourney because teams are winning/losing on a nightly basis in bball. Let's move on to Minnesota, hopefully get a win and get back on track.
