  1. Good list. If I were going to add one of my favorite moments, it would be against Wisconsin in the second half. There was a point in the game where Gallegos hit a 3-pointer to put us ahead 53-52 or something like that. And, the very next time down the court, Wisconsin missed a shot. Petteway battled for the rebound and managed to slap the ball over the Wisconsin players to Shields who was on his way down to the other end for a big dunk! Besides beating Michigan State, that was probably the biggest "goosebumps" moment of the year for me.

    Offseason sucks!

Much like stocks, diversification is good. Baseball leads into football which leads into basketball which leads into baseball...it just keeps going. There is no offseason.

  4. Obviously no meals, entertainment, transportation to Lincoln, or lodging are provided. Other than that it can be treated just like an official, except there is no 48 hour time restriction on an unofficial visit. The university can even provide transportation around campus and between venues. His unofficial could look something like this:Friday Night: -Meet and greet with staff and players. -Facilities tour. -Dinner/Entertainment (on own dime) with players. Saturday: -Unorganized pick-up game/workout with players. -Meet and greet with S&C Coach. -Lunch (on own dime) with staff and/or players. -Attend spring game. (University provides no more than three tickets) -Dinner (on own dime) and meeting with Coach Miles. Sunday: -Breakfast (on own dime)/meet and greet with life-skills coordinator. -Meet and greet with academic coordinator/counselor. -Campus tour. -Lunch (on own dime) with staff members.

  5. Huskers win last game of the series 5-3. Bummer with the longest outing of his career. He wasn't great early on but got better as the game went on. Off to Arkansas for a tough mid week matchup. Getting 1 would be nice before Buckeyes roll into town.

  7. Is Standhardinger still going to be around? Only if he is doing the Grant Gibbs plan for college.

  9. Just posted about him on the women's page. He says that UNL is padding the attendance of the NCAA game. I am having fun just posting 9,585 any time he posts anything anywhere. I would like for Royal to go get him. That would be classic, but he doesn't respond to what anybody says to him, so it is not as much fun as it could be.

  10. There is a certain culture that exists on this board that is different from many (all others that I've seen.) We don't typically genuflect to the "insider" and we don't have the typical "internet tough guy." I can think of a couple of people who showed up here and assumed we were like other boards and it took them a bit to realize this board is different. Tone down the hostility and just have a conversation. One of them turned out to be a fantastic poster; the other disappeared. I've mentioned before what I have called the paradox of the insider. You think you want them because they will tell you secrets that others don't know. But the problem is that they then possess (and want to possess) a certain amount of "power" or "authority." And the trouble with that is that when Mr. Insider lays his insider trump cards, discussion ceases. That happened over on the Rivals hoops board and the place turned into an empty wasteland where now there is practically no discussion. When every new thread starts out "Question for Mr. Insider" you're not going to see a lot of discussion. The other fallacy that other message boards have fallen into is the thought that only the experts provide value to the board. And it's a bigger problem if your "expert" is also an "internet tough guy" or has a posse of "internet tough guys" who yap at his heals. The reason that thinking only experts provide value to discussion boards is a fallacy is because average Joes listen to experts, the defer to experts, they don't discuss things with them. So, a board that possesses the "only experts provide value to the board" culture will either see discussion disappear or turn into pissing contests between those who consider themselves the "experts" and those who don't want to yield to the "experts'" points of view. Right now, we have some insiders who don't act like insiders (they haven't adopted the "insider" status as a means of stroking their own egos) and we have experts who don't follow the "internet tough guy" approach that "either you agree that I'm right or we'll have a problem." Only because we have avoided those negative archetypes, have we managed to have such a great board. In which regard, the "Cheers" references became an apropos, if only accidental, motif.

  11. As long as we avoid any "Ricky from River City" type of people from spreading their virus over here...I think this board is one of the best. For those that don't know who Ricky is...you can see his postings on pretty much any Husker related story on the LJS website. He lost it the other day when he posted that TO became AD because he didn't have anything better to do..and that the U should have kept Peterson and Callahan as they were making positive changes at the U. Um....yeah.

  12. Hate to say this, but when we "right sized" the team it seemed to be a season changer. Biggs subtraction seemed to lift the team, again, at the time it seemed like a huge negative, but it ended up being a dose of reality that seems to have lifted the team.

  13. This board is only going to get bigger. It has great members, it's well run, and most importantly....the future of Nebraska basketball has never been so bright. My concerns about the overall quality of the board stem from the fact that this board will grow and I don't want what we currently have here to suffer because of that. Thus, some things I want to evaluate during the off season are better defined rules/expectations - This isn't really a problem for people that have been around...it's more of a getting started sort of deal. At some point I plan on cruising around some other established basketball boards and seeing what's up figuring out how to get the community engaged more - I think a Husker basketball wikipedia is sorely needed among other things figuring out how to attract and reach more people figuring out how to harness and utilize our numbers as a positive force in Nebraska basketball - "Husker Power" wouldn't have happened without the Red Zone and the U but that idea originated here. etc Fire away if you have anything else. ' P.S. Full disclosure...I voted for beer.

  14. Finally got some good pitching from Bummer & Roeder to go w/ some clutch hitting from Christian Cox & Ty Kildow. Arky will be tough, as usual, but it would be a great resume builder to come out of there w/ a W or two. Cox looked good yesterday...starting to turn into a log jam in the outfield which is a good problem to have. We need to get Pritchard rolling again. He's a big part of this lineup.

  16. Coach Miles said on his show last night that NU (paraphrasing) 'would probably get Hawaii first at Diamond Head, so that'll give us another road game' - he probably was being sarcastic, but I couldn't tell for sure. He also mentioned Creighton & Cincinnati coming to Lincoln - road game for ACC/B1G challenge - but no other non-conference games mentioned

  17. Now it really depends on the beer and the pie. A stout would not not work well with say a lemon meringue. I think you would need maybe a Corona for that. Something very light would be needed. Now the much discussed rhubarb would go fine with a Harp, Smithwicks or other Irishy beer. I think I could even have a black and tan with the rhubarb-strawberry. Apple and cherry would be somewhere in the middle. I think your standard Bud light or even a Pabts would work. Or you could go all matchy-matchy and have an Angry Orchard Hard Cider with the apple pie (maybe doesn't qualify in our beer category) Sam Adam's Octoberfest special would be perfect with pumpkin. Key Lime pie and Bud Chelada? The combinations could be infinite.
