  1. We were #29 in defensive efficiency last season. From Feb. 1 onward we were #6. That's with no rim protector, a hobbling Mast, and I don't think people realize just how bad CJ and Keisei were defensively. We didn't need to really do a whole lot of improving anyway. We added a rim protector who was a Pac-12 All-Defensive Player and a bunch of long dudes, and we lost our two worst defenders. And Nate Loenser is still here. We'll be just fine on defense. If anything, this should be really exciting that we hopefully don't have to trap the post every single possession and leave shooters unattended. Our defensive philosophy last year was great as long as the opponent wasn't hitting 3s. But then games like A&M happen...

Story behind the name. Got first car back in 1979 as freshman in high school. It was a 1972 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 429 4 barrel and was originally used as police interceptor. With a first name of Russ and Dukes of Hazzard tv show my high school buddies dubbed me Roscoe. Been using for nearly 45 years and there are people that think it is actually my name and have no idea who's Russ?

  3. Great get and fans will love this kid’s motor. He is very similar to Gary in being a special perimeter defender for his size and he has elite speed for a big. Should be elite in rotations. He’s a little light but a very physical player. Offensively he’s solid as well—pretty versatile. Good high release. His weight prevents him from being a great rebounder but he’s not bad there either. He 100% fills the 4 spot for depth. It’s gonna suck to be the opposing team’s 4 and think you are getting a break with Gary on the bench only to bring in another dog to fight you. We’ll be relentless at that spot. Love this pickup. I think we get that win we all have been waiting for next season. I’ve never made that prediction before. It’s a hell of a roster.

Conference talk always reminds me there are no easy wins in the Big East except for the guaranteed 3-4 wins per season against Georgetown and DePaul

  5. Exactly. Isn't it amazing how our 2023 HS recruiting class last year was #184 Eli Rice and NR Matar Diop... And now a year later in retrospect our 2023 HS recruiting class is #36 Berke Buyuktuncel, #67 Gavin Griffiths.

  6. Unfortunately you usually don't finish the season with as many active players as you start with. Injuries happen. So it's nice we actually have some depth to work with. That's crucial for teams late in March and April.

My vote is for @Noah121. Hard hat/Lunchpail kinda guy, puts the work in. Elite bench mob dancing skills.

  8. Yes the Big Ten and SEC will be far and away the toughest hoops leagues in the nation next year, right behind the Big 12 and Big East. Sincerely, National Media

  9. Pike redshirted for a year. Jano seems like he'll be a nice player but he's competing against guys with high level D-1 experience. Ideally he would redshirt and start next year but that model of play went out of style at least 10 years ago. That being said you can see a path for him with our lack of shooting this year.

  10. I think it could be a really good thing that the trajectory of prospects is not teetering on hit-miss but more likely how high their ceiling truly is. Onward and upward as Nebrasketball appears to be on the rise.

  11. You want length? How about this as a lineup: PG - Williams SG - Griffiths Wing - Juwan PF - Berke C - Meah

  13. Ulis is probably the biggest question mark for me. His production at Iowa was meh. Yet we've been hearing the coaches loved him on scout team and that he caused problems for our starters. If he learned how to shoot in his year off then he could be a much better PG than Jamarques Lawrence. If he didn't, I'm not sure how he fits in. There will be at least 1 or 2 Boogie Colemans on this roster (someone who expects to play and starts off the year with minutes but winds up on the bench after Jan. 1). I think Ulis has a ceiling of being our starting point guard and has a floor of Boogie Coleman.

  15. Starters: Worster Essegian Williams Gary Morgan / Meah (doesn't really matter who starts, they'll platoon and each play roughly 20 mpg) Regular Rotation: Griffiths Buyuktuncel I think the guys above will get the lion's share of the minutes and be in the game plan for every single game. Morgan & Meah share the 5. Gary and Berke share the 4, with Gary sliding up to the wing when they're both on the court. Griffiths is the backup for both Essegian and Brice. In addition to starting, Brice also functions as the backup PG and takes over primary ballhandling when Worster needs a breather. There's your 8-man rotation. 9th man, he'll play but not as much as the other 8: Hoiberg. Dude is a shooter, decent ballhandler, and great off-ball defender. He'll play when Coach needs a specific role executed by someone reliable. Situational, will play some games but not in others: Ulis (when we need an extra ballhandler on the court) Janowski (when we need an extra shooter on the court) Barring any long-term injuries, I don't see the need for a situational big man to log any minutes. Two centers, plus positional size throughout the rotation. We should be able to hide minutes at the 4/5 when our regular bigs get into foul trouble.

With all due respect to Eli Rice, this is an upgrade over Eli Rice if Rice was expected to play at the 4

That's a good point...the name on the back of the jersey has to be their HHC handle name and their jersey number is the years they've been contributing to HHC.

    In state kids?

He absolutely is a D1 player IMO. The only question for me is what level? If we have room and we. Normally do I would absolutely take a flyer on him. He can shoot the lights out.

  24. Seemingly, another advantage he has for playing time is his size. He appears to have good strength for an incoming freshman that goes well with his basketball IQ and skills. The only thing that may hold him back is the talent/experience ahead of him.

  27. Brice Williams is going to give you 38%-42% 3pt shooting. We need someone out of Essigian and Griffiths to hit at 36%+ because I don't think we're going to get much shooting out of the PGs or the front court. Last season we set 3pt attempt records. I don't think that is the strength of this roster and would expect us to play more like the Griesel team in terms of 3P attempt percentage.

  28. I wonder if brazile went back to Arkansas because we were no longer recruiting him or if that was the plan all along from his camp. also no idea what the basketball program has for NIL but from the guys we have gotten or Atleast gotten on campus for visits it has to be a healthy amount.

  29. Connor Essegain also has a ton of potential -- BIG 10 All Freshmen Team two years ago. If everyone is healthy and stays healthy this will be one of the deepest benches we have ever had. We have multiple shooters, rebounders and defenders. I can't wait to watch this team.

  30. Did I just watch a hype video of a guy in the transfer portal committing to the same team he was just on? Can't wait to see what's next on "How can the transfer portal era get even more ridiculous?"

  32. Well, I think this thread can really get serious now. If I had to guess today...I think we'll start the season with a smaller lineup of playmakers/shooters but with Meah as a rim protector to offset our size at 4. Rollie Worster / Ahron Ulis / Sam Hoiberg Connor Essegian / Sam Hoiberg / Nick Janowski Brice Williams / Gavin Griffiths Juwan Gary / Berke Buyuktuncel Braxton Meah / Andrew Morgan Out: Rienk Mast (injury) Braden Frager (redshirt) Justin Bolis (redshirt) There is so much you can do with this roster. There are so many questions the coaches will have to (get to) sort through. Just a few off top of my head... Is Sam Hoiberg really going to stay out of the rotation? I find that hard to believe. If Buyuktuncel excels this summer, is he your starter at the 4 and moving Essegian to the bench? Would they rather have Essegian's scoring off the bench anyway? Janowski will not be expected to get any minutes this season at this point. But I wouldn't forget about him... Other than Williams and Gary being in the starting 5, I am not confident in anything I just typed.

We have guys on our roster now who have transferred in from conference mates: Iowa Wisconsin Rutgers Washington UCLA Plus one from Utah. That's 6 power conference transfers in. Not sure if that's good or not but we will certainly have lots of guys with power conference experience on the floor this year.
