USA Women's U17 trials
redsteve and 3 others reacted to Actualfacts1 for a topic
I work right next door to the OTC. Me & Nicea are gonna go check them out today if we have time! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk4 points -
I'm sure you'll both put in a good word to potential recruits for us if you get the chance (and they'll be interested in watching Nicea's progress as a Husker). Be interested in hearing your observations if you do go!2 points

USA Women's U17 trials
Red Don reacted to Row6Seat10 for a topic
Husker target Taylor Kissinger '17 from Minden is in Colorado Springs this weekend trying out for the USA Women’s U17 World Championship team. 143 have gathered in Colorado trying to earn a spot on the team, including all twelve members from last years USAU17 team. Also participating in the trials is another Husker target, McKenna Haire '17 from Charlotte NC. The Huskers have shown interest in McKenna and vice versa. There will be multiple cuts, some coming as soon as today, before the 12-player team which will represent the U.S. at the FIBA U-17 World Championship for Women is announced on Monday.1 point -

To blow up a successful program over the blip on the radar of a "downward trend" (one year of which we MADE the NCAA tournament) is ridiculous. And, I don't think our esteemed AD did it over that, in any event. That was more of the witch hunt stuff, NEOC Complaint, etc. Well, it's happened, and I hope we end up being anywhere near as good as we were over the past 6 years. One can hope. So we have no choice but to move on, but I'm not going to sit by with a false portrait painted about where the program was, and false renditions of what was behind the so-called chemistry problems.1 point -

And I disagree with both Sam and you on that point. There was no such "trend", and to suggest there was reflects an absurdly critical view of what was going on here. We had a proven coach and someone who had hit the recruiting stride. Hopefully the next coach will do that also, but it's a helluva risk. We'll know more in November when a staff which has never recruited top talent has to do so. And if your view of the program and being that critical of Yori constitutes "support", I'd hate to see version of non-support. You're just throwing out cliches and phony platitudes about support, when the substance of your criticism for the past several weeks tells the real story,1 point -

> As for Theriot and Clark as our point guard and backup I think we we put too much faith in the fact >that they would be totally healed from very serious injuries. When both were lost for the season we >had no back ups. I agree with HB on the previous posts. I also have a problem with the above statement. No back-up. Nat Romero was a point guard her entire career before coming to the Huskers. Maddie Simon played point in HS as did Emily Wood. Woodie did a good job running the point a couple of times last year. Jaz is also capable of running the point if needed. So stating we had no back up is completely false.1 point -

If you want to keep up the narrative that the program wasn't in good shape basketball-wise go for it. The first year you cite we lost an All Big 10 point guard at a time when we were in the hunt for another championship. And lots of teams, not just Nebraska, would not have an answer for that. And the next year, after losing 4 players with over 100 starts, was always going to involve some rebuilding. And still we were upper division and heading for the tournament when we lost multiple players. And, we had a great class coming in. If you think "middle of the pack" is where our program was at, with who we had returning and who was coming in, fine. But it takes "living in the present" to the next level. We're only 2 years out from a tournament title, and you think we have to do it every year. Please don't ever apply for an athletic director position with that short-sighted of a view point.1 point -
So, next year's starting lineup.

We are obviously going to be deeper and more talented than we have been in recent memory. It is going to be critical for our staff to have a good method behind the subbing. Our best guys still need to play quite a bit. And we have a lot of guys that can develop the hot hand on a given night. We need to ride that hot hand each night, not take him out just to take him out. I can recall a time or two where they really mangled it this year. If a guy is rolling, let him continue to roll.1 point -
His answer was not quite firm on coming back, true. But I'm not losing sleep over it. Right now, he's here. He'd have to make a big, uncertain change that doesn't include the NBA to be elsewhere next year. There's a certain known to coming back here. He comes here and he's averaging a good 16 or more ppg on a team that, as indicated in a different thread, sure doesn't look like just a .500 team. I'll assume he's coming back until I hear otherwise. And I'm not buying the otherwise unless Bryan Rosenthal tweets it. For what it is worth, earlier in the process he did say Nebraska or NBA and that if he played college ball again it would be for the Huskers. AW3 seems like a mature enough young man where you can trust his word.1 point

I don't actually have a problem taking a risk on a freshmen because it's not like guys stay and clog up scholarships anymore.People transfer out pretty quickly if they don't get playing time.1 point

Hmmmm. Edited to add: The pause before he answered and the hedging kind of answer he gave makes me think he's willing to make a move if he thinks it's in his best interests. For a coach, you don't want to probably get in the habit of changing what you do to accommodate one player's desire to showcase himself for pro scouts. No one player is bigger than the team, right? But this might be a bit different. Miles needs Andrew for the team to be as successful as it could be next season. We need him on the roster. It also benefits Miles in terms of recruiting if White gets drafted next year. And, if White does well enough to get drafted, it probably means the team will have done well, too. So, do you run stuff specifically for one guy to improve his draft stock? Maybe in this case you do. In one of his interviews White was asked how you balance being a team player vs. your individual goal of improving your stock for the NBA. He said in order for him to get better he needs his teammates. It serves him well to involve the guys he plays with and by being a senior leader for the team. I see this side of it as well. It was just strange to hear a player speak in terms of me and how the offensive needs to be adjusted to showcase himself. I also agree that if anyone can speak like this and still be a team guy, its White. He's class and maturity all the way.1 point

2016 Husker Baseball
Row6Seat10 reacted to HB for a topic
Was at the game. I didn't see "flat" as much as I saw overmatched. Even when we were up 1-0 Indiana was smacking the ball, just right at us. We were hitting weak pop ups and ground balls. Placzek had a huge error which resulted in 2 runs; who knows what happens if he makes that routine play. And then Chesnut has an two 0-2 counts with two outs and gives up 2 runs. Darin has to recruit some infielders. Would have to think that even if we get in, we'll have a tough seed.1 point -

NU busted through the glass ceiling; Huskers already has nearly an entire roster of top 150-type players. While I don't disagree with that, I just think he stays in Minnesota or goes to Wisconsin. If I go to any games, I'll make sure to wear Nebraska stuff.1 point -

That's an excellent point, HB. One has to wonder why all the injuries over the last couple of years. We're told by former players such as Zeros that practices this year weren't that difficult. Yet we've got all those injuries. I remember during the season it was repeatedly brought up about what the hell is going on with this team that we've seen so many injuries over the last couple of seasons, and it makes one wonder was the athletic training staff just asleep at the switch?-1 points -

Just so I'm clear, if a team wins a Big Ten championship one year and comes back the next year and, say, comes in 2nd, that means they're "trending downward" right?-1 points
