  1. If she can't coach at this level how did her team just win the WNIT. There were six Big Ten teams in that tournament. Included in that was the 12 point win over Minnesota in an away game. The same team that beat us by 37 points at their house.

  2. FWIW they talked to a listener who only follows women's basketball on a passing level. His premise is that Amy isn't a good hire because she's a Summit league coach and not ready for this level and the same logic is applied to her staff. I'd argue she is a very good hire. She seems to be extremely high energy, and she gives every indication that she really cares about her players. (I'm not saying Yori didn't). More than a few coaches start at a lower level... Bill Self seems to be working out well for Kansas. He started at Oral Roberts. Coach Yori came from Creighton. However, many of the great coaches (Krzyzewski, Dean Smith, Izzo, Roy Williams) were assistants at big programs prior to getting a head coach job at a big program. As we all know... We'll have to see how this plays out on the court. I'm confident and optimistic that she'll get these girls to play hard and fast. Yup. It's a chicken and the egg deal. How does one know for a fact that a coach can't make it at this level if they haven't coached at this level? Also if one does their homework they'll know that before she was a successful head coach she was also an assistant at Okie St from 2001-2005 and Tulsa from 2005-2007; The argument that she hasn't been exposed to what it takes to win at this level seems less valid.

    2016 Husker Baseball

HUGE series win. I think we are in a good spot as long as we continue to play the kind of baseball we are capable of.

  5. 1) When you say "family", are you talking about parents or brother or both? I haven't had a look at the premium articles out there, but all I hear of is how his older brother is handling recruiting. 2) by "good environment", I assume you mean academics, program integrity, etc. Haven't heard much of an emphasis on anything but playing time from JT's side. I grow more pessimistic about this process by the day. It almost feels our staff has out-recruited everyone else, yet it feels like we are the fallback plan for JT if all other possibilites fall through for them.

  6. Like if White decides to play professionally it's mainly because he hates Miles and not because he believes he can make it onto a NBA squad or somewhere in the pros? Please tell me why you believe he makes an NBA squad. Yes, especially when my source said he is tired of the sideshow and just wants to play ball. Keep in mind when I say that, it is know who AW is as a person. How many guys leave early to go play in Europe? Watson in Omaha is a better player than White, it's NBA or college not Professional anywhere over college. What's the lifestyle of a Euro ball player like... I've heard mixed things on it. The reality will be we lost an good college player, on top of all the coaching changes and challenged in a time period of unquestionable support for the program from the school and fans. I will still support the program but my outlook of where I see Tim Miles getting this program before he leaves. Ok, ok, ok...everyone's heard the 'cherry on top' of 'all the departures' and 'coaching changes' thing over and over again as a reason to doubt the direction of the program. I don't doubt that you've heard things. But when are those real concerns versus simply a product of losing games? Are things actually going on or are people looking to give reasons? White leaving would be a blow. Petteway when he left wasn't a huge surprise. Have any other significant players left? Has our turnover been more than average? As for the coaching departures.... 1) Ben Jacobson. Left for his alma mater. 2) Craig Smith. Left to become a head coach. 3) Chris Harriman. Left for New Mexico. This is the one departure I can see being in question. 4) Burno. Left to work with a buddy. Also had heard Miles helped him on out after Miles learned of his habit of paying recruits. 5) Phil Beckner. It was told to me that the guy was an absolute freak show and needed to be gone. The guy didn't get along with the rest of the staff and was a real a-hole to the players. Miles actually offered him the chance to come back with major adjustments to his attitude and Beckner decided to phone a friend. Basically what I'm getting at is that the last two years have sucked. Losing leaves everyone grasping for answers. Losing White would suck but would anyone be looking for reasons on scandal within the program if we were coming off a 20 win season and then White announces he is declaring? Probably not. Everyone would be wishing him luck and at the same time hoping he returns, not doing the "I heard from someone what White's true opinion of Coach Miles is".

  10. For those that pay, Robin Washut has an update on this entire Andrew White situation. Sounds quite a bit better than most are making it out to be. If you pay for Rivals, head on over and take in the favorable news. If you don't pay, wait around and wonder.

  12. Why any recruit would want to sign up for a program in which the head coach occupies the hottest of seats seems unfathomable. With that said, I am enjoying the coffee this morning. I wonder if Jordy would mind bringing a croissant tomorrow?

    OT: Message Boards

I wanted to take a brief respite from the current angst over players leaving/recruits coming in that's affecting both the men's and women's teams right now and recall one of the most amazing threads I've ever seen on any message board anywhere. And this year is actually the 10th anniversary of the story, so it's timely in that sense. I'm doing this from memory so details might be slightly off here and there; however, to the best of my recollection, it went down something like this: Fellow signs up for a new account (1st red flag) on the Texas Longhorn message board (2nd red flag if you know anything about that board) to announce he is a Texas A&M fan (3rd red flag) who lives in Norman, Oklahoma. (4th red flag). Supposedly, his girlfriend (5th red flag) worked for a car dealership in Norman (sure she did) that was owned by a major booster (aren't they all? 6th red flag) and that the OU starting QB whose name he was unsure of (7th red flag) was getting paid to work there but wasn't doing any actual work. And the brand new poster wanted to know if anyone else had heard about this and whether it was a violation of NCAA rules (8th red flag.) Nearly everybody in that thread -- and it was a long thread -- called bullshit on this poor chap. Nice first post. Why are you coming here to talk about OU? If you really had this info, you'd be doing something else with it. Sure, you don't know if this is an NCAA violation. Riiiight. Never seen such a troll try to pull something like this. You think we're going to fall for this bullshit? Wait, wut? A few months later, August 2006, it's announced Bomar won't be returning to the team. OU admits 2 players have been dismissed for violating NCAA rules but won't say who (Bomar.) As it turns out, it was all true: Rhett Bomar really was being paid by the booster-owners of Big Red Auto for work that he didn't actually perform. Amazing. First time posters who seem like they're trolling ... sometimes aren't.

Losing sucks. yes some bad luck but everything from Harriman down is completely in the coaches control. Even with Harriman leaving. Tim Hired all of those guys. I did in fact justify all of them. I have no thirst for being right. In fact I want the opposite as I have a 100 dollar bet with someone that Nebraska would make the tourney this year. My source is not anything to do with Creighton. I hope White goes through this process and realizes his next year here is equally as important to his NBA chances. I don't buy the limited tread life as far as playing in Europe is concerned. Damon Stoudamire is still playing in China.

I will still support the program but my outlook of where I see Tim Miles getting this program before he leaves. That's debatable and I'm not really sure how you can even compare the two considering they are two entirely different players. Also, I would argue White is a better NBA "like" prospect as not many NBA teams are in the market for a 5'9 PG that can't shoot. On the other hand...a 6'7 forward who can shoot and rebound will always get a look from NBA teams. It doesn't have to be NBA or College...in fact, I would not blame White at all if he decided to go overseas and start earning a nice paycheck. You only have a certain amount of years before you hang up the sneakers. The fact that we will be in bad position if White bolts is not on him but Miles roster management.

  23. ...if he leaves, I'm blaming you! We actually did that with TP!!! Actually gave him a congratulatory hug and told him we would look forward to his last year. That didn't work out so well. More to the story, we actually sat right next to the family of David Rivers. His Dad was a bit gruff at first, but after a few minutes he warmed up to us and we had a lengthy and great conversation. Of course he then passed away soon thereafter. Sad. Speaking of graduation: Doc Sadler's son Landon graduated from UNL yesterday with highest distinction. That is a pretty cool story.

  28. We're recruiting Jordy under the premise that he's our big man. Are we going to recruit over the top of him and then hope that he doesn't pass and we whiff on that guy? Are we going to recruit a guy obviously not as good and just hope that works out? Are you going to do this all on the d/l and just hope that what you're doing won't get out? I sure as hell hope that we're playing our contingency plan close to the vest because I don't particularly think, for instance, that reading about Mangok in the Journal Star is an effective method of recruiting.

  29. I think Amy Williams will be a coach whose style players readily appeciate. She's very fired up and enthusiastic in games. Like any program in college basketball - men's or women's - it's about recruiting for talent and fit. I've already written this about Connie, and I'm comfortable saying it: I thought it got away from Connie a lil bit after the Cady/Sample/Teara/Brandi class. She aimed for a lil more talent, got some poor fits, and, until Rachel Blackburn came along in this class, I think there were a few classes there where she didn't get a natural leader with some attitude on the court. What interesting is, I think Britney Brown actually was a really good hire. I think she had things moving back toward what Connie built the program with -- athletes, hard workers, defenders. And Kathleen Doyle is a Lindsey Moore type. Britney got it.

  30. Again, I hope he stays but when a guy of this caliber says he is done with the Tim Miles show... It makes you hope something in the program changes... Losing guys with eligibility to Euorpe isn't something to be proud of... I hope he stays.
