  1. I like our chances with both. Not only could Jordy start as a freshman, but the roster around him is loaded. It's a no-brainer to me if we can just show him the recruits he'll be playing with. I wonder where the class of Roby-Horne-Tshimanga would rank if we land him. That's a mean 3-4-5.

  2. Not to get anyone's hopes up on Kathleen but here’s a tidbit I find really interesting about Kathleen Doyle’s Benet Academy’s girls basketball championship team this last year. In 1987 Amy Bullock transferred to Nebaska from Barton County CC in Kansas. She played two years for NU under then head coach Angela Beck. She started both years. After she graduated she became an assistant coach for a couple years under Beck in the early to mid 90’s and I if I remember correctly coached our now head coach Amy Gusso/Williams for one year. She got married and became Amy Kramer and moved to Chicago. Fast forward to this year, the Benet Academy girls state champion team had junior Ali Kramer on the roster, yes ex-Husker Amy Bullock/Kramer’s daughter. Could that connection help when it comes to getting an affirmation on Kathleen’s commitment to NU? Let’s hope so, it can't hurt.

    Mi'Cole Cayton

Hopefully we'll find out late tonight or early tomorrow morning on Mi'Cole's decision as Coach Amy is in California tonight for an in home visit with her and her parents!

  6. I will say that it is true what you are saying Jones, but... as a teacher I will say that the youth of today as a whole, not all, but many don't have a very high level of self discipline. I will even say that in the last 20 years of teaching it has gone from I will try with out asking for adult help; to I need help before they even look at the problem. It is also interesting that as a youth football coach now, I ask my players what they did to get ready for football this summer. Most tell me that they played a ton of video games and stayed in their basements. I also see a bunch of our players who can't run very far, or can't even get in a three point stance because their hamstrings are so tight. Which tells me that they sit for long periods of time. These are 4th, 5th and 6th grade boys. I don't yell and scream, nor am I their best friend, but I do agree that they must trust you before they are willing to really try anything. Just my $.02 worth.

  7. Seems like Barnaba is a backup plan if we strike out with some other targets. If we don't land some "bigger names" he prob gets a late offer. Anyone agree?

  8. It will be a shame if Natalie leaves Nebraska for her last two years. She is a Big fan favorite and really came into her own last season. Best wishes for her continued success whatever she decides. Equally important are retaining Kathleen Doyle and Mi'Cole Cayton in the incoming class. I'm hearing that Coach Williams expects to have an in-home with Kathleen soon. I may be wrong but somewhere I got the impression that Mi'Cole did not want to stay in California for school; hopefully we'll know something soon. So glad that Nicea Eliely, Hannah Whitish and Grace Mitchell, all highly-regarded recruits, are all 'N'! We have an excellent class of returning Freshmen; I am expecting them to step-up and increase their leadership roles this season. Combined with the continued improvement in the upperclassmen over the course of their careers, I think prospects are good for next season.

  9. "I’m seeing girls that are more concerned about posting on their snap chat and Twitter they had a career high 15 points and were going to party the night away, than those that love the game so much that they are hungry to make themselves and their teammates better." Natalie Romeo was the 2nd kind of girl. I won't soon forget her tearful interview session after the NIT loss in which she explained that she was sad (tearful) the season was over because she has such a passion for the game that she wasn't ready for it to be over and just wanted to play more. You need kids like Natalie Romeo on your squad. If Row 6 is correct, we just lost ours.

While I think that Petteway and Shields were great players for us, I didn't really think these things were their strong points. I'm also not sure that it's a strong point for White or Webster and I don't know if Watson is ready yet. Seeing Gill interacting with the guys while just a bench players was really encouraging to me.

  15. Agree that there needs to be some adjustment to today's youth. That has been going on for as long as the generations have changed. No one should have to deal with Helicopter Parents who feel their kids are entitled because he provided the sperm or she the egg for that child.

  18. "I’m seeing players band together, not on the court, but off the court, claiming they are being emotionally abused because their coach yells at them and is demanding. They then sue the coach and university for all of the hardships they are going through." And then the schools settle those suits for $350,000 because, even if they don't think their coach did anything wrong (and retain them because of that belief) there's still a chance a jury could believe the girls who banded together to complain.

  23. If you know how to use a period, you know how to use a semicolon. Just make sure the sentences are related. I tend to incorrectly use an ellipsis when a semicolon would be appropriate; maybe I can change. I get ellipsis happy, that's for sure. I use them as a substitute for just about any punctuation in my Facebook messages. I'm not proud. Nobody abuses the ellipsis like I do brotha...

  29. Too bad; she would have held some all time records for sure. Loved watching her go 39-40 minutes full bore on both ends of the floor. She will be missed. And there are things going on in her world which I would hope our fans respect, beyond the recent events with our basketball program. I wish her the best. Hoping we'll balance this with some good news on the Doyle front soon; I am optimistic there.

    Asst. Coaches

Any word on Doyle, Romeo,or our 2nd recruit (sorry name escapes me)? Not yet. I think Cayton re-committing is a long shot. Really hoping Coach Amy is doing all she can to get Natalie back on board. That might take some time. I can't emphasize enough that the Huskers really need that kid to stay. Right now I'd give Doyle a little better than 50% chance of coming here. She was really close with Amy Stephens. I'd be shocked if those two haven't been in contact with each other. I would think Coach Amy would put in a good word for Coach Amy. Or I would hope anyway. It's pretty quiet out there with these girls pondering their future.

This is a big jump up for these new assistants recruiting wise, having always recruited for a mid major school where you hope to get a few from the "best of the rest" pack. They're out recruiting now for a power 5 school not a mid major. Would like to hear real soon how some top named recruits are gaining interest in NU because of these three newbies who by the way left this morning for their first stab at it wearing the big red N on their chest. These new assistants basically have everything they need, facilities, academic support, fans, budget etc. to help them get in on some top rated recruits. Hope they're up to the task.

  44. With the versatility of all the 6'7" - 6'8" players, we have several players that can play more than one position. Watson: 1 Webster: 1-3 White: 2-4 Gill: 1-2 McVeigh: 3-4 Roby: 3-4 (I'm positive he can play the 3) Morrow: 4 Horne: 4 Jacobson: 4-5 Yep... we need a 5.

  45. I notice a lot of similarities between Coach and Woody. Extremely intelligent students of the game who both started as walk-ons and earned scholarships and played with gusto and gave a 110% when they got the chance to get into a game. Also both were crowd favorites.
