In the next 8 months, we as fans, need to decide that we're tired of not watching our team in the NCAA Tournament and any step below that is not progress. Brilliant! We've been wasting all of that time trying to recruit better players. Turns out, all we need is for the fans to want it more.6 points

Man, the line between "gotta be real", pessimism and trolling is so blurry... But you're right he didn't start over Benny. When he started, he started over Tai Webster, the team's third leading scorer, who averaged more than 10 points a game. Watson also initiated the offense most of the time when he was on the floor, regardless of whether Benny was on the floor or not, improved dramatically as a defender over the course of the season. I don't know if he's a top third PG in the Big Ten, but he's not bottom third, I'm confident in saying that.3 points -
Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea. This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy. And so the problem remained; lots of the people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches. Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans. And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, one girl sitting on her own in a small cafe in Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything. Sadly, however, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone about it, a terribly stupid catastrophe occurred, and the idea was lost forever. This is not her story.3 points

Here are a couple reasons to try to learn from the past: 1) 63-67 in 4 seasons 2) 27-45 in conference play 3) 0-13 career vs. McDermott 4) 0-4 vs. Creighton Are we satisfied with the decisions we've made in Husker basketball in the past decade? Given the circumstances we faced at the time of Sadler's hire, I would say, "Yes." No doubt you recall that we were trying to fill a vacancy that came up at a very bad time for hiring a coach and that a number of good coaching prospects were approached but declined in part because of that timing and further that Doc Sadler was a fairly "hot" coaching prospect who was eager to come. Did it work out as well as we would have liked? Clearly not. But since you have gained such wisdom from your perusal of the past perhaps you can share why the decision to hire him was not a good one as it was made at the time. Heaven forbid, though, you posit some nonsensical idea like "we should have hired Dana Altman." Why not instead say, "we should have hired Coach K or Bill Self?" I mean, if we are going to play "what if" let's at least play it right.2 points

Kind of had thought the B1G would have decent showings in the tourneys. Turns out the B1G overall really wasn't all that much of a threat to the big picture of NCAA women's Bball this year. The way all the B1G teams beat each other up this year, kind of was a foretelling of what would happen at years end. No real dominating teams....OSU, and Maryland, particularly, had their moments....but mixed in even for them... were unexpected losses. Watching some of the tourney teams playing and winning...the B1G has a way to go. Just hope we can have a relatively healthy next year, so we can come closer to our real potential. We have some talent, and more coming in....got to be pretty optimistic looking forward.1 point

Anytime I watched a TV game down the stretch (and those were just road games and the B1G tourney) the commentators would gush over how good Watson was going to be. Fact is, we haven't had a freshman on the floor doing the things Glynn did at PG this year in a long time. You can just tell by watching him that he's got that moxy that we're not used to seeing in a Husker jersey. He will be special. It is not unreasonable at all to think top 1/3 for him next season.1 point

Sorry, but no way. It simply was not going to happen at that time. Our esteemed AD was too busy being booed on big screens across the state - he was in full time CYOA mode. He couldn't even put together the support for a deal to fire Collier. And besides, Altman was not leaving his job at the time - in August no less - to work for that buffoon in that toxic environment. He's too smart for that .... the pig sooey incident being the outlier of course.1 point

I don't know if he's a top third PG in the Big Ten, but he's not bottom third, I'm confident in saying that. Good points - and the reason Glynn didn't start early is because his defense was a mess, which shouldn't be a surprise for a true frosh. I'm still having nightmares watching him try to chase NW's guards in the game in Lincoln. Ugh. But he improved throughout the season on that end, so that's a good sign that he bought into what the coaches told him. He's still not a lock down defender, but he's more than passable now, especially for someone who provides so much on the offensive end. And for a true freshman to have his limited number of turnovers was impressive. Get him in the weight room this off season, and he's poised for a nice jump forward. I'll admit being skeptical when he arrived about how much he'd be able to get done at NU. I'll also admit I was pretty clueless for thinking that way. He's definitely deserves to be ranked in the upper half of the B1G at PG in 2016-17, and depending on who leaves/comes back, top 1/3 isn't a stretch.1 point -

Good point. The bluebirds were more than happy to see him take his show out of town at the time. Apologies if my early response got this going in a bad direction. But I will admit the 'what if' thought has crossed my mind a few times this season with Oregon's success. And to clarify, I'm not bitter/angry Altman wasn't hired a decade-plus ago. There's just no point in being angry about it - the people who made those decisions are long gone from NU. At this point I prefer thinking about the 'what if' scenario of NU signing a couple of big men for 2016-17 and thinking about playing Oregon in next season's Elite Eight.1 point -

What ifs are pointless exercises designed, usually, just to mock the way things are. What if ... George Washington's boat sank crossing the Delaware Lee Harvey Oswald missed. The bomb killed Hitler Alexander Fleming hadn't gone on holiday in 1928 allowing time for his "mold juice" to impact some of his petri dishes for longer than planned. Pfizer hadn't developed the little blue UK92480 pill (a.k.a. Viagra) to help relieve coronary heart pain. And perhaps most importantly, Nebraska doesn't beat OU in football in '78 The point is all those things are NOT true and can never BE true so so asking what if they COULD be true is a waste of time.1 point -

Two turnovers and a layup that doesn't draw iron in the last 19 seconds. I guess Wisky used up all its magic last week. And there goes our streak of seasons where we beat a team that reached the Final Four. (Yes, 2 seasons qualifies as a streak.) MSU & Wisky really let us down this year.1 point -

I'd like to research the rest of the league to provide a more educated opinion, but based on my gut feeling... PG - Middle. Watson doesn't have a true backup point. I assume Tai will play some point. Bakari will get a shot at it as well, but as of right now I don't see him being a factor. SG - Top. No reseason to think Gill won't be a huge contributer for us next year, and Tai has become an extremely reliable player for us. SF - Middle. No doubt White is one of the better players in the league. McVeigh will be better I think, but still a lot of growth needed there. Lot of hope for Roby, he's 6-8 and athletic, but is still a true frosh. PF - Bottom. If we get a good Center, this may change, because Morrow and Jacobson are pretty good low post guys, they just need a little help. They should be better individally, but they are still sophmores. Backcourt - Top. With Watson, Webster, and Gill, I definitely feel we have one of the top thirds. Frontcourt - Where do we put White? Part of the back court, or front court? He's a forward, but he's essentially a perimeter player. I'm going to say our front court is our 4-5 positions, and right now I'm saying bottom.1 point -

I'm always impressed how they are consistently able to play great defense without fouling. Especially with the way the game is called these days. I mean when we got into the double bonus against them in the 2nd half in the B1G Tourney, I was thinking their coach might stop the game and ask for a recount.1 point -

PG - Glynn and Tai put us in the top five of the league...no doubt in my mind SG - Combination of Gill and Tai again puts us in the top five of the league. PF - I will place MJ, Horne, Ed and Jack in this position. This four headed monster is on the rise. I certainly place this grouping in the top five. Wing/SF - Combination of Drew and Roby (and Fuller) look pretty darn good. Top 3 strictly due to Drew, anything more is a cherry on top C - Currently we are one of the bottom dwellers. In fact, we likely are on the bottom 3. Unfortunately, this position is critical for our success. The next two + months are going to be critical. If we get a good one...then baby, watch out. By the way, as an added bonus; many in this group can play multiple positions which gives the coaching staff the opportunity to create match-up problems. Again, getting a quality big man that can score in the post, provide consistent rebounding and can protect the paint is sooo important.1 point -

Miles got his pants pulled down, on a Sunday, no less, by World Herald NU hoops beat writer, Lee B. Seven partial columns along with four color photos, with stats, of Miles big-man flops. Smith 6-8 254 two seasons, 10 starts, 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds: Vucetic 7-1 238 played 34 minutes in two seasons: Abraham 6-9 252 22 games 1.6 pts and 4.4 rebounds and Hammond 6-10 235 Started eight games in two years 1.7 pts 2.2 rebounds. Then Lee B lays into Miles big-man whiffs he couldn't sign. E Robertson 7-1 290 started 4 frosh games at LSU 0.5 pts and 3.4 rebounds, soph year started seven games, 2.4 pts and 2.1 rebounds, Chukwu 7-2 226 Providence freshman 2.6points and 2.4 rebounds and Atewe 6-9, 235 1.5 pts and 3.4 as a freshman. Miles now trying to line up Jordy Tshimanga 6-11 260 lbs. Has played much basketball until the last four years. Has lost more than 40 lbs. Miles one day seems all hyped about post season play then cites the democratic process between the players and the administration as the reason they don't want the opportunity to go on regional or national tv and play in a post season tournament and end the season closer to.500. With the NCAA tournament comes get-togethers and stories start to creep out after a few beers. No doubt many are bs, but with that much smoke there is at least a few sparks of fire. Miles poor- decision process may not be limited to stupid t-fouls. Things arent adding up! I dont see him lasting past next year, and may be looking this year. Just sayin.-1 points

I mean, if we are going to play "what if" let's at least play it right. So, I'm thinking he was at least attainable with the right deal in 2007. Well, you're thinking wrong. By that time Dana was established and wasn't going to take a career-killing job like Nebraska. No way is he taking that job. He was going to pick his job, and it wasn't going to be this one. We couldn't hire Self when he was a newbie at Tulsa, and we sure as hell couldn't have hired Altman in '07. Go ahead and throw as much crap around here as you want, but at least have it be remotely realistic. Anyone who has spent 5 minutes with the Altmans know you're pipe dream was never happening. The reality of the world is that money talks. Altman accepted a preliminarily position at Arkansas for 1.5M per year. We are paying over 2M today for not even playing in the NIT. And you don't think we could've gotten a deal done???? It would have been worth a full blown effort and if he turned down a 500K higher bid, then I would happily say "at least we tried". But, we didn't. Too proud to go after the Creighton guy.-3 points -

The year was 2007, we needed a coach. Bad. We opened the search to go far and wide, looking across the country. But we missed one. There was a guy that had 10 straight 20 win seasons, more NCAA tourney wins than our program, and had dominated us head-to-head. We looked far and wide, but the answer may have been right under our nose. Or maybe about 40 miles away. His name was Dana. Dana Altman. Hell, his dad even lived in Wilbur. But did we offer him? No. Did we consider him? No. Why? Because we can't have a Creighton guy. Where would we be today if we had offered him what we're paying now to not even sniff the NIT? I would be willing to bet that we would be dancing right now. Oh well. Maybe next year? Or at least that's what we've been trained to say.-4 points -
Tim Miles walks into a bar. The bartender says,"What can I get you?" Miles: I need a big man! The bartender brings out a Busch Light tall boy. "Ha ha ha." OMG! "That's a good one. Wait till I tell the Mrs that one." " Someone should get that to Steve Martin so he can use it at the Pinewood Bowl this fall." Or, "Is it bad joke." If it's a bad joke is it as bad as Miles going two consecutive seasons and working on his third with an open schollie? Whats the reason behind not filling schollies? A. Lack of wisdom. B. Energy deficit. C. Afraid of adding to his big-man stiffs and whiffs. D Trying to acquire brown-nose points with the administration by keeping schollie expenses down. Granted Miles has had some tough big-man luck like losing a recruit to Kent State but he hasn't done much, if anything, to enhance his big-man good luck.-9 points
