Which spelling would you prefer, jimmykc? You have two different ones in your post.2 points -
While we are on this thread, can someone help me change the title which has bothered me since I first posted it? Please tell me how to edit the extra "r" out of carousel. This bothers me, especially since Gordan MacRae, star of the movie version of Carousal, died in Lincoln's Bryan hospital of mouth cancer and is buried in Wyuka cemetery. A picky point but since the thread draws a fair number of hits, it gnaws me every time I see it.2 points

I'd be happy with getting even one good big this spring. Exactly. Until one of the bigs we're recruiting actually signs, we have zero over-signing problems.2 points

If I was a big man
AuroranHusker and one other reacted to Chuck Taylor for a topic
I know the lack of a big man is a popular topic right now, but I've been struck more by the lack of a good point guard for the last 15 years. I mean a guy who started for several years and was a floor general. We really haven't had anybody like that since Lue. We've ended up losing a lot of close games over that time. Maybe my aged brain is forgetting somebody. But I know we've had Marics during that period, so there's four years of a high-quality center. And the Drevo-Turek-Conklin crew may not have been all-Big 12 caliber but were serviceable. But I can't think of one time where we had a high-quality, experienced point guard who ran the team. I think a shortcoming at 5 is a lot more obvious, but frankly the lack of good point guard might be more damaging.2 points -

Pitt just lost their coach I can totally relate. I'm always losing stuff. I'd suggest checking between the cushions of the custom-made sofa in the players' lounge. Oh, wait, they don't have one of those at Pitt.2 points -
Next year's top 8
mwm89 reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
Norm's Prediction for Next Year's Top 8, complete with Norm names: Big Dog Shepard Alpha Romeo Alley Cat Havers Princess Jasmine Cincore Captain Jack Blackburn Sweet Madeline Simon The Irish Assassin, Katie Doyle Kiss Me Cayton (I DARE Matt Coatney to adopt this moniker for her, but it fits with Kent "I Love You Shavon" Pavelka) I struggled with the idea of having two true freshmen in next year's top 8, BUT ... I can't see putting a walk-on in there. I can't see Esther making the jump. We've kinda talked about Darrien. I would be surprised if the coaches can keep the Irish Assassin off the floor. I kinda flipped a coin between Cayton and Whitish. I think arguments could be made for either.1 point -

Donkey reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
They play basketball in Toronto, right? Huskers might try to recruit players from Toronto occasionally, I'd assume. Well, those efforts might have to wait a few days because (former) Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has passed away. Yeah, that Rob Ford: The morbidly obese, coke-snorting, 46-year-old, former Mayor of the great city of Toronto. They'll probably be in mourning for a few days so Miles might have to put on hold any efforts to recruit any big men out of Toronto at least until next week. RIP Rob Ford. You kept us entertained and for that I thank you.1 point -

Well, Norm, Rob Ford was a mayor and Fred Hoiberg is called a mayor and his Grandpa used to coach NU so I think the premise of your thread is correct.1 point -

So, we thought our 1-scholarship self-imposed sanction was bad?
Red Rum reacted to HuskerPower #nato73 for a topic
I have never thought our 1 scholarship "sanction" was bad. If you play an 8-9 man rotation 12 scholarships are plenty. In this day and age of free agency in college basketball having an open scholarship does not seem like a bad choice. Had we picked up a stud at semester this past year, many of you would have agreed with me.1 point -
2016 F Thik Bol (Iowa Western C.C.) -> S. Illinois
AuroranHusker reacted to khoock for a topic
Ideally I would love to see Thik go to Nebraska (I went to high school with him). But I do not think he is what we need in a big man. He is 6'7-6'8, but with a very long wingspan, and very thin. I would not mind seeing him end up at UNO.1 point -

Roby
AuroranHusker reacted to jason2486 for a topic
Like all of you above, I'm excited to see Roby on campus, but he will have a hard time being as good as Shavon. Shavon is one of those guys where 10 years from now, we will be like, "Damn Shields was a great player." Hell, we already are saying this! I hope that Roby gets to be as good, if not better than Shavon, because that more than likely translates to us having major success in the near future!1 point -
We would take him and jhordy. A transfer of the Louisville like could happen too. I think we will take 3 before the next season starts.1 point

That's a little bit of a wow hire isn't? Wow as in huh. Also will this help or hurt us with Jordy? Isn't Pitt one of the ones we needed to beat to get him? Jamie Dixon graduated from TCU. So, he's going 'home.' And, yes, I think Pitt had been one of the contenders for Jordy... with a visit in store, IIRC.1 point -
2017 C Jordan Meidinger
Neebraska reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
So, you think the Bison will just release him from his LOI because a few power conference schools finally come sniffing around? I disagree. The best time to recruit a kid is BEFORE he has signed an LOI. Once he signs, recruiting efforts and budget are better spent elsewhere. Unless, of course, you enjoy tampering charges and NCAA violations. What makes you think he's signed an LOI? If he's signed one, I don't think it would be valid, since as a 2017 recruit, he's not eligible to sign an LOI until next November.1 point -

good for him. i'm still glad we ended up with white, mcveigh, and roby instead. We lost because: Miles couldn't give a ship to a big man wishing to transfer. Guaranteed to start and get minutes. Country's best practice facility. New arena to play in. Couldnt find a taker. Why? My best guess is many big men are too alpha for Miles act. We got killed on the inside. Reluctant shooters. Outside of White our guys to dont look to shoot enough. Simply not aggressive. Miles is a poor recruiter. No excuse for not being all over Patton. What did McDermott see that Miles didnt? Same applies to K Thomas. This season is a long way from over. We got some freshmen who are going to be better than average. But they will never be better than Patton or Thomas.-1 points

Down by 20 after 12 minutes at home on Senior Day doesn't cut it. Not saying Miles has lost the team but Im watching closely for the balance of the season. Im a broken record on this but not filling scholarships and not recruiting serviceable big men is killing us. Get someone on staff who can get the big man job done. In my mind, Miles spends too much time telling knock-knock jokes to the hotel night front desk clerk than searching out big men.-1 points

Miles got his pants pulled down, on a Sunday, no less, by World Herald NU hoops beat writer, Lee B. Seven partial columns along with four color photos, with stats, of Miles big-man flops. Smith 6-8 254 two seasons, 10 starts, 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds: Vucetic 7-1 238 played 34 minutes in two seasons: Abraham 6-9 252 22 games 1.6 pts and 4.4 rebounds and Hammond 6-10 235 Started eight games in two years 1.7 pts 2.2 rebounds. Then Lee B lays into Miles big-man whiffs he couldn't sign. E Robertson 7-1 290 started 4 frosh games at LSU 0.5 pts and 3.4 rebounds, soph year started seven games, 2.4 pts and 2.1 rebounds, Chukwu 7-2 226 Providence freshman 2.6points and 2.4 rebounds and Atewe 6-9, 235 1.5 pts and 3.4 as a freshman. Miles now trying to line up Jordy Tshimanga 6-11 260 lbs. Has played much basketball until the last four years. Has lost more than 40 lbs. Miles one day seems all hyped about post season play then cites the democratic process between the players and the administration as the reason they don't want the opportunity to go on regional or national tv and play in a post season tournament and end the season closer to.500. With the NCAA tournament comes get-togethers and stories start to creep out after a few beers. No doubt many are bs, but with that much smoke there is at least a few sparks of fire. Miles poor- decision process may not be limited to stupid t-fouls. Things arent adding up! I dont see him lasting past next year, and may be looking this year. Just sayin.-3 points
