  1. There will always be "some" of anything. In general -- well, in the vast majority -- it's not close. A mere NCAA Tournament bid is enough for most fans. "A mere NCAA Tournament bid is enough for most fans." Ok, well he did that...in year 2. I honestly don't understand the fans that want Tim's seat hot right now. Don't understand it at all in fact. The guy has been here 4 years. Made the tourney in year 2. Call it a "hot streak" but in a power conference, isn't that how you get in? (see Wisconsin this year). I've said this before so I am repeating myself here. We have lost a lot of close games. We aren't just going out there and getting our butts kicked night in and night out. I understand at the end of the day its about W's and L's. But we have an EXTREMELY young team this year and I truly believe that young talent is pretty darn good. IF, and its a big IF we can get a decent big man, I think we have nice pieces around our roster. The other thing (and others have mentioned this too). Miles had NO clue TP and WP would leave like that. He also lost Tarin Smith who was playing big minutes. Then Craig Smith leaves, we hire another assistant and he leaves before even really taking the job. I'm not trying to make excuses, this is just the reality of the situation. I firmly believe Miles will get us that 1st NCAA win. And all the "haters" and so called "fans" will say "I always knew he would do it!" Which will be total BS. With social media the way it is, fans think they know everything and can now voice their opinions. One game we win (MSU) and Miles is the greatest! We lose the next game, and we suck! Its no different than sitting at Memorial Stadium and listening to our fans bitch one moment that we pass too much. We then run, that doesn't work and that play sucks too. On 3rd down we pass a bomb for 25 yards and all is good again. Its an emotional roller coaster with so many fans.

  4. Idk why people are taking this season so hard. We only returned Shields, Webster, Fuller, Hammond, and Parker from last year. Hammond and Fuller barely played last year. Parker and Webster weren't that great last year either. So basically you return Shields, two role players, and two bench players. Then you add in 5 freshmen and a transfer who had never saw meaningful minutes in his college career and you have a very inexperienced and small team. That's not gonna turnout good in any power 5 basketball conference. Aside from the upset @ Michigan State we didn't beat a credible team all year. But we did play alot of good teams close. And aside from Purdue (obviously they are a huge mismatch for us due to size) I never really felt like we got completely overwhelmed by any Big Ten opponent. This leads me to believe that we are close. Yes we lose Shields but I think the development of the freshmen and the addition of Gill, Horne, and Roby will more than offset that. We are still in desperate need of a big man but I'm sure we land one whether it be a freshmen, JUCO, or grad transfer. Long story short, cheer up we were better next year and even better the next.

  5. The year the Big Red break through (and we will) it won't be some flukey deal where we win one game in the Dance and then get bounced out. No my friends, it will be a sweet 16 run or better and we will be the darlings of the National media, ( and no I haven't been in the cough syrup this morning ).

To add to this sentiment about those who are calling for the warm seat...I have to wonder and speculate...and hopefully not make us sound too much like Creighton fan, but does anyone else wonder if the majority of fan's who are calling for the warm seat either came on board when PBA opened or at least it was the first time in a long time that they 'paid attention' to Husker hoops? Not to put down any long time regular on here who has warm seat feelings but I just have to believe that the majority of them are recent followers, fairly new or newly rejuvenated fans after a long absence, lack the understanding of the current collegiate basketball landscape and have a lack of understanding when it comes to Nebraska Basketball history. I just have to believe that any fan who has a true grasp on where this program has been recognizes the incredible jump we've seen in recruiting, isn't too quick to discount the NCAA tourney appearance, and recognizes the challenges in roster turnover/management. I'm not saying fans that think the seat is warm are out of control ridiculous and I'm not saying the long haulers are holding onto a bunch of excuses...it's just that when I hear someone say 'seat warm why are we settling for mediocrity' I just have to believe they are 'new'. It only makes sense.

  8. Coaches always feel heat. This is a competitive market and a cut-throat business. College basketball is a zero-sum game: A win for me equals a loss for you. And fans' memories of the good times is short -- a coach is never much better than the last season they had. But the normal heat that coaches feel that just goes with the territory of being a college coach and having to win is not the same thing as having a hot seat. Having a hot seat means results are needed in the near future or his job is in jeopardy. Coaches don't lose their jobs over 1 disappointing season, unless it's really, really bad compared to what was expected. Chris Mullin, for instance, might lose his at St. John's this year. But let's review a little bit: Year 1: 15-18 (5-13) ... Given the roster he inherited, this record was beyond expectations. Year 2: 19-13 (11-7) ... First winning record in conference play in 16 years; first NCAA tourney bid in 16 years. Nuff said. Year 3: 13-18 (5-13) ... Total disappointment. But a lot of issues not totally at Miles' feet. Year 4: 14-17 (6-12) ... Moderately disappointing except when you consider 70% roster turnover from prior season. This was a rebuilding year. Obviously, he needs to turn things around a bit beginning next year, but his seat isn't hot at this point.

    The coaching carousel

That time of year again, folks. Let's crank up the old carousel and try not to get dizzy. Ron "Fang" Mitchell is out at Coppin State. So long to one of the best nicknames in the coaching ranks.

  10. Some of you come lately Husker fans may not be as familiar with Colorado's Linda Lappe as the old guard Husker wbb fans, but she was let go today by Colorado after six years on the job as head coach. She played for Colorado in the late 90's and early 2000's and was a big thorn in the Huskers side while she played for Buffaloes. I'm not sure there was any other Buffalo that was a bigger problem for the Huskers back in those days against the Huskers than her. Although I hated the thought of it when she went up against us, I'll be the first to admit after she graduated that she was fun to watch play. Six years ago CU was hoping she when they hired her, she would find the same sort of success that Ceal Berry had when she coached the Buffs. Lappe probably won't be unemployed to very long as she is a top notch recruiter. Hard to tell where CU goes from here. http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=3910&SPID=258&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=210779711

  11. We tend to slot out rosters more based on defense than offense so who can Morrow or Jacobson guard seems more important for determining where they play than their offensive skills. I don't think either of them is an offensive focal point next year either. Yes, you are correct hhc and defense is where I believe MJ becomes a liability. But you have to have some court skills on offense to play the 4. Unless you center is a stretch player your 4 has to have some ball handling skills to avoid a multitude of turnovers. this is where I see EM's weakness.

  12. I was told by someone within the program recently that Gill is a scoring machine and had over 30 points in a 10 minute scrimmage a month or so ago. I was also told that Roby would start day one....great combination of height, ball handling, scoring and passing skills. I have trouble believing that either Morrow or Jacobson will play the 4, at least next year. Jacobson neither has the ball handling nor foot speed to play against B1G 4s. Morrow is athletic enough but needs to improve ball handling dramatically. I guess MJ can become more athletic and EM can improve his ball handling skills but just not confident that will happen. I see the rotation looking more like this, given our current set of players: PG Watson/Webster Wings White/Gill/Roby/McVeigh/Webster Center Jacobson/Hammond/Morrow Horne is a bit of a mystery to me. Not sure we see any of Evelyn or Fuller unless there is an injury.

    Next year: Production

I'm hoping for a starting lineup of Watson/Gill/White/Morrow/5th Year XFer Big Webster the first off the bench. I think he should be Watson's backup as well. He's valuable because he can be more than serviceable at two positions. McVeigh, Roby and Jacobson are the next 3.

  14. The Cubs WILL WIN the World Series this year. It has to finally be our year, right??? As far as the Huskers, they still need to find the formula. That formula creates winning basketball. We have consistently missed an ingredient or two. Every year it seems like it is something different. This year, not having a true post player hurt us on both ends of the floor. We were up, we were down, we hit our outside shots, then we missed our outside game. Every time out, it seemed like we fixed something, while something else broke down. Honestly, I felt we were a better team than last year. But again, we haven't been able to mix that formula quite right...My inner Cubbie tells me that next year will finally be the year that we take it to the highest level.

  16. Just curious for your opinion on where Jeriah Horne plays and more importantly who he is gonna take minutes from? My opinion on him not redshirting is more about guys not redshirting, not because I think he's going to play a ton of minutes. Have to think he's in the SF-PF rotation with guys like White, Jacobson, McVeigh, and Fuller. Not sure if Roby is in that type of rotation or if he's with the guards. Also depends on who else we might sign or lose, obviously. Good point on Roby. I see him more likely to get backup point gaurd minutes than Bakari. But i think the two gaurd spot minutes will be locked down by Webster, Watson, and Gill as I see them each getting 25+ minutes. I am excited for the competition for minutes next season. Assuming Gill is the real deal, Webster is going to be huge next year as the backup for both him and Watson and you know that you can get good production out of him off the bench after this year. Bakari has to be ready next year because you're an injury away from being in big trouble and it would be great if he was able to earn more PT. Interesting comments by Miles on his show last night about both new and returning guys. He said Bakari could redshirt, or could get minutes at point. He said the area he has struggled the most with is defense (But as Norm points out, he was 1-14 on 3s, and the misses looked flat-out ugly. If he struggles more on defense than that, I I have trouble thinking he will ever make it. But the comments from Miles suggested he will be back). Webster may see more minutes at the point. Miles said Gill is a much better athlete than anyone we have going north and south, and should help us a lot in transition, where we have struggled. Isn't as athletic as Tai is laterally, but can get to the rim going forward. Claimed Gill is a good shooter (despite that not being apparent at Louisville). Hasn't been as dominant as White was during his year on the scout team, but has been very good. Not sure if you can really draw much from this but for me that's atleast a bit concerning. Obviously White is a great shooter, but I was hoping the next two years we would be getting the same type of production out of Gill that we got from Shields. We are going to have to hope guys like Watson and Morrow live in the gym and take that next step starting next year or else I'm afraid we will continue to look lost on offense at times.

  19. This talk about how fickle the fans are reminds me of the story about the disgruntled Oklahoman who stood up in the stadium after losing to Notre Dame in 1957; breaking Oklahoma's historic 47-game winning streak and shouted: "I KNEW Wilkinson was No Damn Good!"

  20. Starters Glynn Watson Anton Gill Andrew White Jack McVeigh Michael Jacobson Bench Tai Webster Edward Morrow Isaiah Roby Jake Hammond This is my prediction with the current roster and signees. We will be deep and I think minutes will be tough to come by for Fuller, Evelyn, and Horne.

  21. Some snippits from TM on his radio show about next year's schedule. Some of this we already know. Non-conference includes: ACC Challenge game NU will not be a participant in the Big East challenge next year. They "have a year off" Creighton Kansas Anaheim Wooden Classic Didn't mention South Dakota specifically, but when asked about a rumor that they would be opening a new arena at a school up North, TM said "definitely not". TM closed by saying that while we had 6 lower-level opponents on this past year's schedule, we'll more likely have 2-3 this coming year.

  23. Thanks for the replies. Since posting, I checked out the softball team @ Huskers.com. They seem to be doing pretty well. Would love to see them make it back to OKC for the WCWS. I knew Brittney Brown had joined the Huskers. She was one of my favorite players. Hoping she is doing well there and enjoying it and that she is liked by Nebraska basketball community.

  25. Yea, Shepard has been as advertised. She lived up to her top 3 or 4 in the country. All B1G freshman player of year, and 1st team All B1G team. Got a injury to foot/leg late in year, so her year is pretty much done. Had a good glass come with her too. Also lost two of our starting PG's too..... late this year, so been a struggle late. The team has had a lot of injuries the last couple of years, and has been a big issue. So the team has been held back because of it. Have a good group of 5 guards/wings coming in next year.....we need PG and guards quite a bit to develop depth. Will still be pretty young next year. Don't know to much about the softball team. Graduated some good ones in last couple of years.

  29. I think that the success of the class of 2016 as noted in previous posts will have as big of an impact as to where our program is going as any class since the 2012 one. I think Coach Yori has potentially one of her best. I think a couple of the new coaches found at least a couple of the recruits. Hopefully they have figured out what we need to be an upper level team in the B10.

  33. This teams inability to get a base hit with runners in scoring position has been mind blowning for the last 2 seasons. We had multiple chances to put LBSU away both games today and just could not drive in runs when it mattered. This has been a theme in the erstad era.

This is the part where I get all mushy and talk about how much I love Nebrasketball and I know all you guys that post do too. If you didn't... You wouldn't be here. We are like a FAMILY. Families don't always see eye to eye but in the end, we still all come together to support our team and hate on others (like ..... Ok never mind) The day this bird stops is the day the world stops spinning because we will never stop loving Nebrasketball. Tear jerker... I know

  35. I think fans have every right to be skeptical and concerned. As someone mentioned, a 5 week run of playing good ball is the total 4 year legacy of Miles. The tournament game and the year after suggested the entire thing was a fluke. Yes, things need to vastly improve next season or he will lose me completely.
