  1. Idk why people are taking this season so hard. We only returned Shields, Webster, Fuller, Hammond, and Parker from last year. Hammond and Fuller barely played last year. Parker and Webster weren't that great last year either. So basically you return Shields, two role players, and two bench players. Then you add in 5 freshmen and a transfer who had never saw meaningful minutes in his college career and you have a very inexperienced and small team. That's not gonna turnout good in any power 5 basketball conference. Aside from the upset @ Michigan State we didn't beat a credible team all year. But we did play alot of good teams close. And aside from Purdue (obviously they are a huge mismatch for us due to size) I never really felt like we got completely overwhelmed by any Big Ten opponent. This leads me to believe that we are close. Yes we lose Shields but I think the development of the freshmen and the addition of Gill, Horne, and Roby will more than offset that. We are still in desperate need of a big man but I'm sure we land one whether it be a freshmen, JUCO, or grad transfer. Long story short, cheer up we were better next year and even better the next.

  4. Sorry, I'm just not buying into the "sucky effort" theory. And I've seen that bantered about several times today. If that's what's preventing us from winning more games (oh, yes, that and "poor coaching"), then all the players have to do is try harder and things will magically fall into place, right? Personally, I find this a little insulting to the players who play, practice and compete year-round. What we have is a young, lower-division talented B10 team that desperately needs an incremental upgrade with each roster back-fill. That falls on the coaching staff. I have no idea if we will be a better team when Isaiah and Jeriah back-fill Shavon and Benny. I do know that fans have a tendency to over-hype future recruits, only to be disappointed when they arrive on campus. I love this staff, but I really worry they aren't going to get the roster upgraded enough before time runs out on them.

  5. Anything would be great at this point for extra PT. Who knows...winning something like the CBI or Vegas 16 could get us going with some positive momentum into next year.

  6. I like Tim Miles. 100% confident he will take Nebrasketball to places it has never been.

  7. It is very hard to rely on so many freshmen in a league dominated by stronger upperclassmen. The improvement throughout the year was noticeable with several players, and the team gave great effort throughout. Nebrasketball will be better soon, I'm sure of it. GBR

  9. Sometimes wall-hitting happens when you've taken a pre-season, overseas trip like we did. These guys have been practicing since either late July or early August, about 2 months before practices would normally start. They played 4 games in Spain. And even though there were no games in between August and November, that's still an especially long college season. It's possible they've hit a wall. It's entirely possible.

  10. First, maybe he freaked out because of the article and had to do something. Right? RIGHT?!?? If it was all a dream then this thread is the embodiment of my relationship with Nebrasketball. First there is a glimmer of hope. Then there is more than a glimmer and when you think it might actually turn into what you knew it could be.....the rug gets pulled out from under you. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change it for the world. I am, it seems, a glutton for punishment. please be some kind of inception dream inside of a dream inside of a dream. You can still transfer here, i won't hate you.

  11. I haven't been following Nebraska wbb much this year and I am wondering, does the future look good? I hope so. I have always liked Connie Yori and Nebraska teams. Hate that OU and Nebraska are no longer in the same conference. Finally, does anyone know how well this year's softball team may do? I am a fan or women's sports and OU, Ok St, and Neb are the teams I follow, when I have time. Not an expert on any of the teams, though know a bit more about OU than the others. Have a friend whose father is a fanatic Nebraska fan and she is a pretty big fan, just sometimes doesn't have time to keep up. So anyway, just wanted to catch up on news for the wbb and softball. I think that the wbb was expecting to do better this year. I don't know who is coming in, nor what type of injuries hampered the team. I have read posts at rebkell by people, who know basketball and follow all division I basketball games, say that Shepard does things that a freshman just usually does not know. Okay, thanks in advance for any replies.

  18. I want to see how they fare this weekend. They look gassed, especially the freshmen. Remember, they played extra games this summer, too. I think there could be some benefit to playing a couple extra games with whatever tournament pressure comes in these low level tournaments, but I'm not sure how much is gained if their tank is already on empty.

  21. Before you and 13 get into the same 20 subquote argument again this would be the type of (realistic or not) expectations you'd have almost anywhere, just sort of relative. Right now there is probably some Michigan forum where guys are questioning Beilein because they can't believe how little he built on their Finals runs and look what everyone else is doing there.

  24. Two different things IMO. Last year our best player's mother was dying to the point TP was lashing out on the court at the end of a train wreck of a season. This year we have Shavon literally knocked out and White questionable to shoot for the last 4 games. Are we beating Ohio St and/or Penn State and hugging it out if one of those things doesn't happen at the end?

  28. Not saying Nebraska is making the finals, but avoiding Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Michigan & even Northwestern in our bracket is at least as good as could be hoped for. Wishing AW-III, Glynn, Tai, & Shavon would all be hitting on all cylinders for the next week! GBR

You really do not think we have the players to compete in the Big 10. I disagree. I saw us compete. Yeah everything post Michigan State sucked, but if you seriously do not think we have players that can compete... something is wrong. Now those players have to learn how to win. That is a big deal and something totally different. We were also playing without some needs that left us vulnerable. We really need another solid shooter and a big man. Glynn Watson, Ed Marrow, Michael Jacobson, Jack McVeigh, Andrew White, Anton Gill, Tai Webster are all Big 10 level players that we have coming back next year. Were some a little raw this year? Yes they were. But to say other Big 10 teams wouldn't want any of those players would be a mistake.

I love this staff, but I really worry they aren't going to get the roster upgraded enough before time runs out on them. I'm not disappointed with our recruits for this year. They were every bit as good as I hoped they'd be. The problem was that none of them was a center. Glynn Watson was as good as I expected. Jack McVeigh was better. Michael Jacobson was far, far better than I expected. Ed Morrow as maybe not quite as impactful as I had hoped. Bakari Evelyn was just about exactly what I anticipated he would be. Andrew Whtie, actually, was better. His career shooting percentage was much lowever than what he shot this year. If we'd gone by what he actually did while on the floor at KU, I don't think we could have expected he'd be as good a shooter as he turned out being. And his rebounding and defense were much, much better than I think anyone had any reason to expect. So, I'm satisfied with the recruits themselves. What we can't be satisfied with is the distribution of recruits. In this year's recruiting class and next year's recruiting class, we have 6 out of 9 guys (including transfers) in the 6'6" to 6'8" category. We don't have a soul in the 6'10" category in either of those classes. That's a problem. Particularly when that's been a common refrain over the last SEVERAL years. We're stockpiling 3s and 4s, but we're not landing 5s or 2s, really. We need another solid PG and we need a really good 2 as well as a legit 5. Otherwise, our roster is KILLER.

  33. Very disappointing end to a disappointing regular season. I was hoping we were going to make a run at the end of the year. I was hoping that we could sniff the NCAA tournament and play well in the post season...post season being the NIT. Nope. Hopes dashed. A lot of reasons, but to focus on one, two, three or even four areas is nonsensical. Many things need fixing. Sighhhhh.

  34. I like our side of the bracket. Rutgers is a team we should handedly beat. Wisconsin is a team that I think we would have beat had Morrow and Shields been healthy. And Maryland is really struggling right now if we happen to get that far. First let's take care if business against Rutgers.

  41. BDSC was a pretty good atmosphere for a while, before Bill Byrne ruined it. Re-did the seating, moved the students, tied seats down low to donations, resulted in a half empty B section, home court advantage disappeared, fired Danny Nee thinking he could get Bill Self, and when Self said "yeaahhhh...think I will pass" got stuck with hiring Collier. Then at the Collier hiring press conference he starts talking about the women's rifle team. Bill Byrne ruined the whole program.

If we start playing better defense with his defensive "expertise" while winning games during this turnaround, I will join you.
