Heard from a few on a rumor that Alicia Ostrander may be mulling over applying for a medical redshirt. If you noticed, she wasn’t mentioned in any publication with the departing seniors or was honored on the court on Senior day with any of the out-going seniors but yet she was there and suited up. Plus, she still has to finish her degree so another year under scholarship would be a big help to her. Win-win situation. Should she get it, it would help out tremendously on next years rebounding front and any scoring she could muster. Also should she get it she would be able to play the whole season providing her torn achilles heel heals fine. I was in hopes to get to see her play this past season and was disappointed that she never got the chance. Mine you it’s just a rumor floating around……for now anyway. I for one would like to see her apply and get it!2 points -

Nebraska basketball fans are unbelievably loyal. Nebraska won 19 games two years ago and it was like a religious revival. Nebraska is 11-22 in the Big Ten the last two years. That there is 9,000 fans in that arena, much less 14,000 fans, is a testament to the arena and the fans who fill it. Not the product on the court. I'll disagree slightly that it's not about the product on the floor. Everything is relative. If you look at the quality of basketball, the product on the court this year is light years ahead of the last couple years under Doc. I loved Doc but the basketball was nearly unwatchable. Slow, grind it out games and no real athleticism on the court. This year the quality of basketball was fairly good, the offensive flow was better than the last few years (including the NCAA team two years ago). The W/L results aren't what we want them to be and if that's the only way you judge the quality of the product on the court, then the quality isn't good. However, most of the games we have played have been fun to watch and the level of play and athleticism is significantly higher than the past few years (except for two years ago). I find it funny to hear all the gnashing of teeth going on about a team that essentially lived up to the preseason expectations. Nobody expected us to be in the NCAA's this year and everyone predicted us to be about a .500 team. I don't remember anyone saying the freshmen were "Fab 5" types and going to be the saviors of the program. They were definitely the most heralded class we have had in years but I don't think any of them were Top 50 players in their class (except if you include Andrew). It's comical seeing the writers comment about how the class didn't live up to the hype and how the season has been a disappointment. At the end of the day, we brought in a solid group of freshmen, played to expectations and appear to have a solid nucleus of players coming back. We clearly need more and better big men and to continue to improve but the foundation appears to have been laid for the future. Are we exactly where we want to be at this very moment - NO! Should we settle for what the results are today? ABSOLUTELY NOT! But I don't see why people are so upset/surprised by where we are right now. Maybe I'm just missing something. I wasn't surprised by the season, although I expected 16-17 wins. The point is that a nearly sold-out building -- 14,000-15,000 fans -- is not related to a team's sterling product, because the product isn't sterling. It's mediocre. That's what the record says. That's what the RPI and KenPom says. Nebraska's fans, on the other hand, are not mediocre. They're sterling. Are there reasons why Nebraska fans show up so well? Sure. The building helps. The location of the building helps. Tim Miles, a guy who most people get a kick out of and like watching on the sidelines, helps. But, generally, it's just Nebraskans being excellent, consistent fans.2 points

I don't think Molinari's arrival or Smith's departure is the cause of anything. Just because things happened at the same time is not always or even usually significant. We are talking about different teams with different chemistry and different pieces. Correlation does not equal causation.2 points -

shut down jess. if it was me, no way i play her even 1 minute with that stress fracture. all the huskers would need is for it to turn into a break! i would let it heal. as far as burns? it appears she is going to have a postseason procedure done. i would consider getting that done asap, so she can be ready for any offseason workouts she may have planned. maybe her procedure is no big deal, we don't know. we would have to know a little more about what she will be having done.1 point -

Williams yes Moore no Hooper yes Cady, Brandi and Haliegh yes T no Rachel yes Ramerciero yes Havers no Cincore, Romeo yes Woods no Jess, Burns yes Simon no By my count that's 11 of 16 I am not counting Anya, since she missed most last season or Clark for that matter. 1 year unfortunate 2 years a trend 3 years a problem 6 years what the heck Not sure what, but we have got to be doing something wrong.1 point -

Yes, appears to be virtually a done deal, and we should know soon. The player is a grad transfer from a major power program who's already had a lot of success at this level and would be immediately eligible. He'd be a game changer. Fingers crossed... I don't feel comfortable posting the name here, because I'm not sure it's a good idea, but it would be a phenomenal addition.1 point -

I disagree with you Norm. I don't base my perception of Coach Mo on the Purdue game. I look at more the Penn State game where we felt we need to double team down in the post (yet again) and got killed by the only 2 guys hurting us cause we left them alone. It is easy for good teams to figure out we are going to bring a guard down to double team and a good post player just kicks the ball out for a wide open shot since we can't rotate over fast enough. I get it that against teams like Purdue, we have to double but against other teams, we don't. Yet Coach Mo's philosophy is to double all over the place. Just seems to me that we were much better defensively before he came on staff. I'm not saying everything thing is his fault but he isn't totally blameless either.1 point

Kent Pavelka vs. Tom Shatel
Kent Pavelka reacted to 49r for a topic
I remember a little bit of it, and believe me the OWH was not in any way helpful during that time. Shatel is the epitome of frontrunner, always was, when it comes to writing about the Huskers. Both he and Barfknecht were brutal in their crusade against Nee and the program at the time and it was a totally misguided effort, IMO, considering just what Nee was able to accomplish despite the complete lack of administrative support for the program back in those days. Basically what they were saying at the time was "sure, NU has no facilities, no tradition, and absolutely zero financial support from the AD, but for Danny Nee to NOT win conference championships and make deep tourney runs is beneath us and the fans. This program is an embarrassment!" and they were hell bent on getting him out. Which eventually happened. Like dimes said, it may or may not of speeded the process, but it was unnecessary and to this day pisses me off. KP is totally right when he says Shatel is in no position to write a piece of crap hit piece like he did yesterday. Which make no mistake it was. Essentially this: "Remember when Nebraska won that NIT title 20 years ago and how pathetic it was at the time that people had the nerve to be happy about it? And now consider just how pathetic it is that Husker fan today would be ecstatic just to make the NIT field? God, what losers...but don't worry, they've got some talent coming back and maybe they can do something next year." Spare me Shatel, life long Chargers and Padres fan. You should do yourself a favor and just shut it down, it's not like your home town teams have ever done anything worth mentioning. Enjoy sitting in press row at CLink and with any luck you'll get to write a nice little feel good column about your Bluejay boys and their gutty trek to the NIT. Ironic, too because as pathetic as Nebraska's lone championship in a national postseason tourney is, it still runs circles around anything the Jays have done in the postseason. ...not like I hold grudges or anything...1 point -

Kent Pavelka reacted to hhcmatt for a topic
Does anyone remember the 96 piece about the NIT championship game? I bet KP does. I don't recall it specifically but I do recall Nee remarking how much he though it hurt him. Danny Nee probably gets fired regardless but with the sort of pull that paper had in the 90s it certainly didn't help Nee. Thus, when I read this article the start was Shatel reminiscing about being a jerk in the 90s and then realizing that today he was a little harsh because today we suck more in comparison.1 point -

Any other comparable university and the attendance is probably somewhere around 4,000-7,000 fans. How do we compare with other D1 schools, in large population cities, where there are no other P5 schools or professional sports teams? Creighton joined the Big East in 2013. I went back starting with the year 2000 and took a look at the data and here is what I found. The combined population of Ames and Iowa City is 100K+ less than Lincoln, with Omaha being the largest. All 3 arenas are relatively the same size now, with CU being the largest, although they moved into the Qwest/Link from the Civic in 2003. While Nebraska had 3 different coaches during that time period so did Iowa; and Iowa State had 4 different coaches, while CU had 2. Regular season attendance average had Nebraska in last place by almost 25%. CU had the largest attendance average including the Civic attendance. Regular season record saw Nebraska 1 game above 50%, with Iowa at 55% and ISU at 58%. CU has a nearly won 70% of their games including their time in the Mo Valley. What does all this have to do with Nebraska fans? Well it shows that there is nothing special about our fan base when compared to our most comparable competitors.0 points -
