  1. Okay so if we cut both Hammond and Fuller and don't get anybody, what does this do to our program then? We then have 3 open scholarships and nobody filling them. Because we haven't been world beaters in filling our roster now. If we wait and have a kid maybe. But you have two guys in the system who know what is takes, will sit and not leave because they aren't getting time, help in practice, and are like Minutemen in that they are ready to play even if they haven't played for a couple of games or weeks. I guess because I'm old I still believe in having some loyalty to a player and school, along with a coach being loyal to players. To me at5 this point in this program we aren't going to fill those two spots with better players or team mates. Then we are back to square whatever number it is. Just my thoughts on the deal with what I call the Fantasy League mentality which is drop coaches and players on a whim because I can get somebody better on the open market.

Stupid narrative in my opinion. Key recruiter for Watson and Roby. Our identity is GATA defense and Mo teaches it very well. We slipped on D a this year because of youth (and size) but they will be better. And yes we need offense too, especially shooters but I think you recruit offensive talent and teach defense. I liked Craig Smith a lot and I did not understand or like seeing Harriman go, but to me suggesting that Molinari is the reason for any of our issues is like saying that someone brings the weather with them when they travel somewhere.

  3. I don't get it either. This guy is a major Chicago connect. I'm not sure we get the new blood without him. Defense is not our problem at all. Personnel is, and he's helped tremendously in that department. Tai is the most improved defensive player I've ever seen at UNL, and that improvement happened under Molinari. Offense will come if we get a true 5.

  4. OK, quoting yourself is obnoxious. And quoting yourself when you said "Horizon" and meant Summit probably doesn't earn points either. But nevertheless, Strom is going to get plenty of offers like the one from South Dakota State. That's a good program, I'd expect maybe a Valley team to jump in too, maybe even Wyoming. Can we quote you on this?

Noticing on a few boards that I've toured recently that there's a lot of Molinari hate out there and I'm not sure I understand where that's coming from. I don't think I've ever seen an assistant coach get blamed for losses in the history of Nebraska basketball. Until these days. I've seen posters step in and say don't blame the officials, but I've never seen anyone come to the defense of an assistant coach. Someone want to explain this to me? OK, Molinari is known for defense and we get blown out at home by Purdue. Is that Molinari's fault or is that a function of the fact that Purdue is a balanced team and we don't have anyone who can defend the post by himself? (Ed Morrow actually did a pretty damn good job of it, though.) Miles has often said you try to take away one thing that the other team does, but you can't take away everything so you have to kind of pick your poison. If you double the post, which we have to do, then you leave yourself exposed on the perimeter and a team like Purdue is capable of taking advantage of that. So, fine, take away the perimeter, and then Hammons is going to get dunks on the inside because we simply have no one on our roster who can cover him without help. Thanks a lot, Molinari.

You make it sound like it's an easy position to recruit. 6'11"+ quality guys just go on trees and we just need to pick one...right. Lets not go back in time where we waste scholarships on guys who make Hammond look like an AA. I don't want to see anyone transfer. Both of those guys, Hammond and Fuller, are at the very least serviceable, if not in games then in practice, who can give you good minutes and spark off the bench. They are also going to be upperclassman which provides our team with some stability and leadership. We need an off season of stability...for once. If anybody where to leave it should be Molinari since he coaches our big men, but even then I like to see us have some stability in our coaching. We have got to stop this revolving door of coaches and players and just stick with who we've got for better or worse. Miles took over a program that was an absolutely disaster. It is going to take much more than 4 years to get us to a spot where we have some stability and move us out of the bottom of the conference. With all that said Miles has to find a way with a smaller lineup to play against teams like Purdue. When you front a big men like Hammons or Haas you better make sure that that the guy who is passing the ball in to him has someone in his face. Several times our center rotated to help on defense against a penetrating guard when it wasn't necessary leaving the Purdue big man wide open for the dunk. A player like Hammons should always have a defender stuck to his hip. We also failed on rotating our defense leaving wide open 3pt shots. Early in the game all the wrong people where taking shots. Shields and AWIII were MIA and we looked like a team without any answers. Miles called TO a couple of times during that early Purdue run and it didn't help. Give credit to Purdue because they looked very polished. We have at least 2 more games left to play this season and in the NCAA isn't over until its over. This team is very capable of putting together a run. Until this game against Purdue we had played everybody in our conference tough, even in our losses. I grow tired of our entitled whinny fan base and our local hack media. We are becoming our own worst enemy.

  14. When you only have one guy who can shoot, a team like Purdue is going to make sure he doesn't get any open looks. Michael Jacobson is going to have to grow a whole lot more than 2 inches to have credible size against a guy like Hammond. Ed Morrow was a really bright spot for the huskers tonight. I hope to see a lot more like that out of him next year. When he gets the entry pass in the low blocks, he has a real quickness advantage over most other bigs. Nick Fuller has earned the right not to have any fans complain about him continuing to hold a scholarship. I still say we are only a year away if we can find that elusive big man. It's been a pleasure to cheer on Benny and Shavon over these last four years and I am proud that they were Huskers.

I have no problem with Coach Mo unless Coach Miles has a problem with Coach Mo. I am an advocate that everything evolves around the head coach. If the head coach provides clear expectations and the assistant coach fails to meet or exceed those expectations, it then is on the head coach to make the right decision. Kind of like Coach Riley had to do with Coach Hughes. Coach Mo has been at this game a long time. He knows his poop. I do not see the issue quite frankly.

Aren't you being a tad bit hypocritical here considering your thoughts on our AD and Mike Riley the moment he stepped foot on campus? The fans packed the PBA for a 14-15 team....whine about the fans when they stop showing up. I'm talking about basketball and not football. Two very different programs with very different histories. Nice try though. I wouldn't exactly say the PBA has been packed. I'm not whining about the fans, I'm describing who they are. I fail to see the difference. So it's okay for you to whine about the AD and football program because we have great history(you feel entitled?) but it's not okay for Nebrasketball fans to whine because our history is dismal? I haven't seen Ron discuss football on this board. Are you bringing up something he said elsewhere? Didn't you get mad at me for doing that to you? Or am I thinking of a different guy?

  34. Still not quite sure what our offensive identity is.......hero ball? Defensively.....GATA has gone out the window. I think you'll see next year a lot more what Miles wants us to be offensively. You won't have as many black holes or liabilities next year. A deeper more complete roster. You've seen bits and pieces already this year. Somehow this is still the most efficient offense we've run in over a decade, essentially because Andrew White is on the team. And even when Shields was out...you saw some pretty good ball movement. Shields has some terrific games but sometimes it does come at the expense of ball movement and the rest of the team

  35. Find a big man and things change dramatically next year. Not to trash him on senior night...but we are instantly better the minute Parker's eligibiity expires. Shields is an all timer but I do think he's replaceable. For as good as he's been the last two games, he's had some poor games in conference as well. Another year of experience for Watson and the others and Gill and Roby coming in can offset Shields IMO. In a perfect situation for me...Fuller and Hammond move on... we get a 5th year or JUCO transfer big, Jordy T and a shooter for next year.

  37. I remember a little bit of it, and believe me the OWH was not in any way helpful during that time. Shatel is the epitome of frontrunner, always was, when it comes to writing about the Huskers. Both he and Barfknecht were brutal in their crusade against Nee and the program at the time and it was a totally misguided effort, IMO, considering just what Nee was able to accomplish despite the complete lack of administrative support for the program back in those days. Basically what they were saying at the time was "sure, NU has no facilities, no tradition, and absolutely zero financial support from the AD, but for Danny Nee to NOT win conference championships and make deep tourney runs is beneath us and the fans. This program is an embarrassment!" and they were hell bent on getting him out. Which eventually happened. Like dimes said, it may or may not of speeded the process, but it was unnecessary and to this day pisses me off. KP is totally right when he says Shatel is in no position to write a piece of crap hit piece like he did yesterday. Which make no mistake it was. Essentially this: "Remember when Nebraska won that NIT title 20 years ago and how pathetic it was at the time that people had the nerve to be happy about it? And now consider just how pathetic it is that Husker fan today would be ecstatic just to make the NIT field? God, what losers...but don't worry, they've got some talent coming back and maybe they can do something next year." Spare me Shatel, life long Chargers and Padres fan. You should do yourself a favor and just shut it down, it's not like your home town teams have ever done anything worth mentioning. Enjoy sitting in press row at CLink and with any luck you'll get to write a nice little feel good column about your Bluejay boys and their gutty trek to the NIT. Ironic, too because as pathetic as Nebraska's lone championship in a national postseason tourney is, it still runs circles around anything the Jays have done in the postseason. ...not like I hold grudges or anything...

  39. That's a good point. I would still watch the games. However, the more people talk about a 24 second clock, and now maybe quarters, the more, just IMO, it would lessen the college game. The Euro-step, traveling, palming, continuation have crept into the college game the last several years and yes it has affected the number of college basketball games I watch. My sons call me old school because I point out officials are lazy and don't call the game as it is written in the rulebook. For the record I am okay being labeled old school as I am NOT a fan of street ball.

  41. You want stability but you also want the most stable coach to leave? Who is leaving first for a head coaching/high level job: Mo or the other guys? Miles doesn't put out statements complimenting Molinari because he doesn't feel the need to make Husker nation feel great about the qualifications of a guy who has been coaching for 30+ years. He doesn't need to go on his radio show and talk up the guy who is the lead on Roby and Horne. All this anti-Mo stuff on here doesn't really matter though. If/when Miles reads it he'll probably copy and paste it into an email to get a rise out of Molinari while laughing.
