I did a little calculation. This is based on minutes played per class, and weighted by class (Sr. x 4, Jr. x 3, Soph x 2). It doesn't take into account Minutes played previously. For example, White barely played in his 2 years at KU. If I had more time, and my excel file worked, I would try to calculate based on that. For now, here are the results. Iowa 3.096 (Most experienced team) Michigan State 2.765 Maryland 2.758 Indiana 2.739 Penn State 2.622 Northwestern 2.605 Purdue 2.520 Illinois 2.469 Michigan 2.445 Nebraska 2.407 Rutgers 2.394 Wisconsin 2.328 Minnesota 2.266 Ohio State 1.808 (Least experienced team) Notes: Nebraska's freshmen have played 38.2% of the available minutes. Most in the conference. 2nd is Minnesota at 35.3% and 3rd is Ohio State at 35.2%. Iowa is far and away the most Senior laden team, with their Seniors playing 57% of the available minutes. Wisconsin's Juniors play 62.8% of the time. They will be a tough team next year, if everyone stays. Michigan is leading the sophomores playing 52.8% of the minutes.4 points -

Anybody that thinks Miles isn't doing a good job (in my opinion) has no clue what they are talking about. I understand that our record may not be where we want it to be. But we are a couple bounces away from wins over Miami, Maryland, Ohio State. Then all of a sudden we are sitting 17-11 with some very winnable games left. Heck, we had NW down 12 2nd half and let that slip away. College basketball games, especially in conference tend to be very, very close. You look at a team like Maryland and how many close games they have won. Say they lose 2-3 of those and their record all of a sudden take a good dip as well. The other thing that I think a lot of people forget is that NU for the first time in a LONG, LONG time lost 2 guys to the draft. Whether or not they should have left is another topic. But when Miles was putting together his classes I'm guessing he didn't plan on TP and Pitch to jump ship. That lead us to have to play freshman a lot of minutes that they maybe wouldn't have had too. You throw in Tarin transferring as well and it put a loop in the classes. Then we lose a couple of assistants as well and here we are. Then you lose Shavon for the past 4 games as well as a dinged up Morrow. Now, I understand these things happen to a lot of teams. But a team like NU without a ton of history has a hard time making up for all of that. I know it sounds a lot like I'm making excuses for Miles, but these are just the facts. Losing TP and WP put us a year further behind. Had TP stayed this year, I have to think we would have had a DAMN good team. You have three scorers in TP, SS and AWIII with Watson running the show....that's pretty damn good.3 points -
I have essentially zero interest in what recruits have to say. My takeaway from this stuff is who visits because most kids won't even consider signing here without visiting. Having kids come to Lincoln and see the facilities and crowds as young as possible is huge. Especially great to see talented Kansas City kids.3 points

Discussion about big men and whether Leslee will return or not got me thinking about the possibility of adding a different juco big to be available next year and, with our improved stature since we signed Leslee, maybe getting in on one with a little more upside than Leslee had. So, I looked at the NJCAA website for their current stat leaders and found an intriguing prospect ... except he's not a '15 recruit. He'd be a 2016 recruit. He's from England (apparently), was committed to Montana State for the '14 class, but didn't qualify and has now gone the juco route. And for a juco freshman, he is KILLING it. Kavell Bigby-Williams. Averages 15 ppg, 12.2 bds and 3.5 blocks. According to Verbal Commits, he's 6'10" and 215#. http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/kavell-bigby-Williams And check the video ... Edited: I changed the thread title. I don't know if we're after this kid. I don't know if he would even be interested if we did go after him. But if we're in the market for a 2016 juco, this one looks like a better prospect than the one we reportedly offered out of Australia by way of Sunrise Christian and then Hutch CC.2 points -

Penn St has played fairly well at home, I don't think they have forgotten the beat down we put on them, and they have a viable chance at the NIT. We're going to have to claw to win this game.2 points -
I should have just said "NCAA tournament" for next year. Miles would have to do something well beyond not making the tournament next year to be in danger of getting fired. It's very obvious if you look at this program from a past, present, and future view that he's building this program year by year in a way that hasn't been done since the 90s.2 points

Nebraska had no business getting the Miami or the Ohio State games into OT with the horrid shooting. Miles is the one who got the team prepared & composed to compete with these teams. Players follow Miles' lead. This is the 1st year in nearly a lifetime that Nebraska is on pace to not have a 20-point conference loss (at least, so far, it is true). Now, yes, I know, that's hardly a "good" assessment but it's also not a 'bad' one either. Compete, compete, compete is the basketball mantra comparable to real estate's location, location, location.1 point -

The name of the game is still the same as last time: a decent shooting night + not putting them on the foul line a ton = win. Also, when winning 3 of their last 4 it's been Shep Garner in double figures. He seems Gallegos-esque in his 3pt streakiness.1 point -

this squad is already pretty close to having made the postseason, and they still have an outside chance to do so. But things are looking decent for the next few years. This is Miles' career class at NU--the one that makes or breaks him (similar to Doc's 3rd year class that, well, broke him). If they're where they should be in two years, then you're probably looking at the NU hoops coach for a very long time. I've long thought NU was a 7 year gig, not the traditional 5. I think Miles should get every one of them.1 point -

Seems games at PSU have always been close, fairly low scoring affairs (in the 60's). A big part of the beat down in the 2nd half at home was Taylor getting fouls 3 and 4 in the first minute of the half. I don't see something like that happening at PSU. Heck, NU usually gets very little benefit of the doubt from the 3 stooges at home, let alone on the road. Unless PSU shoots really poorly, this will probably be a dogfight. They have been playing pretty decent ball of late.1 point

I actually went to this game- flew in for my first game at PBA with my brother who is a freshman at UNL. Couple of observations: 1. Pinnacle Bank Arena is AWESOME. Phenomenal design and doesn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. We were in section 106 but looking around at that place was great. And it was LOUD at times. Went to Barry's and Longwells (i think?) before/after the game and it was a blast. Love visiting Lincoln- always a great time. 2. McVeigh is going to be an absolute stud. Random comparison but reminds me a lot of Niels Giffey from UConn a couple years back on their national title team. 3 and D guy at a high percentage from behind the arc who can guard the opposing teams bigs while causing nightmare matchup problems on O because of the 3 point shooting ability. If McVeigh develops a 3 point shot off the dribble forget about it- guy will be an all conference player. 3. Andrew White at times takes some really really terrible shots. It is what it is at this point. 4. It was glaringly evident without Shavon that we need another wing scorer. Hopefully this can be addressed next season and beyond through recruiting. 5. Glynn Watson- while he didn't have his best shooting night- is going to be a stud. Always in control and makes good decisions most of the time. I love Benny but Watson is a clear upgrade over him and is already showing why he was a top recruit. 6. Tim Miles- really good at creating mismatches through in game adjustments, and then at times leaves you with a "wtf" moment. Team seems to take after him with their play. No reason for the T Miles got and Lyle continuously would get the ball at the top of the key in the 1-4 look and go straight to the rim. No change in defensive philosophy Tim? 7. I love Nebraska fans but the people I sat next to didn't know a damn thing about the ins and outs of basketball. But they love their Huskers and support the team unconditionally and it is always fun to be in that kind of an environment. You can tell the fans want a winner here desperately. 8. I hope to be back to a game next year. Really great overall experience and it was very cool to see the growth not just at UNL but in Lincoln itself as well. Great overall experience.1 point -

There are at least two kinds of disappointment. 1. Expecting going in to play a lot better than we have. (Last year is a great example of this type) 2. Expecting to win more games based on how we have played (This year is a good example of this type).1 point -

I think at some point its okay to raise our expectations. I would guess if you asked Miles and the team at the start of next year they would say the same thing. Our goal is the NCAA tourney. Miles doesn't want to be the little engine that could program remember? Then that comes with expectations. I would guess if you asked the team and Miles right now... They would say their goal is NCAA1 point -

I'm in agreement with this sentiment. The standard has been raised by Miles himself--certainly not by his 2.5 predecessors. He's become the victim of his own success because he did a miracle job recruiting and developing talent right away. If you look at next year's contributing lineup: Seniors: White, Webster, ? Juniors: Hammond, Gill, Fuller Sophomores: Watson, McVeigh, Jacobson, Morrow, Evelyn Freshmen: Roby, Horne, ? We're going to win more games. There's no doubt. If Miles ends up getting a center as a graduate transfer or freshman, I don't know how anyone could look at this group (with, what, 6 highly touted recruits and 2 more who were just as good and under the radar?) and not see a foundation being completely changed in the program. Miles hasn't gone with the quick fix. He's gone with investments that will pay dividends. I don't think Nebraska fans have the luxury of measuring our coach by an NCAA tournament standard until Miles and these awesome recruits raise that bar for us again. How can we? We haven't had that standard in 20+ years. Instead, we should probably be going with empirical evidence that Miles is the guy and Nebraskans are patient people. We also have actual proof that he can make the tournament because he did that already, so I really don't get the doubters regarding the big picture. He's already answered all of my questions (coaching/recruiting). The puzzle just has to tighten up a little more.1 point -

Rachel B has a chance to be an outstanding player for us. Brings some athleticism to the 4. She made some great defensive plays yesterday. A couple of the blocks were classic; total stymies. I have no doubt the offense will come given her determination and work ethic. She will also get stronger. And I love the feisty attitude. The future is bright.1 point -

Miles and I have the same feeling about the game and his technical foul. (video is immediately before he gets T'ed up)1 point -
I know this has been beaten to a pulp but it will continue through the offseason. Yes, next year is Miles' 5th. I do believe it's time to see results. But haven't we seen some results already? If you would've told me at the time at hiring that within 4 years we would make the tournament I would have been more than okay with that. Well, that happened. Except it was in year 2. Whether we just got hot or whatever, it still happened. My question to those discounting that is would an improbable tear though the Big 10 tourney this year, winning it all, and making the dance "not count" as a real tournament appearance because we struggled to win in the regular season? So was making the tournament in year 2 just bad timing? Should Miles have taken his time so as to have his team peak in year 3? Year 3 was a disaster and that's all on Miles and the early success and departures after season 3 led to Miles essentially starting over. Way more freshman on the team this year than he anticipated having to bring in. Anyone with eyes can see the direction of the team this year (although losing), the development of those players, and the new crop of players coming in next year has this program going in the right direction. So if next year's team gets say 18, 19, maybe 20 wins and fails to make the NCAA tournament again, is Miles done here? Or is that seen as progress and the feeling is then that the crop of Watson, Morrow, McVeigh, Jacobson would be poised to dance their junior and senior years?1 point
