  1. Thoughts: - What a strange game all around. Poor shooting by both teams, but the game wasn't awful to watch surprisingly. - White had a tough shooting day, but he has taken tough shots all year long ... just didn't make them as much today. However he is such a fighter and made a difference in the end by hanging through the slump. - Ohio St's D is tough ... very long and disruptive around the hoop. However, we felt off on offense all day. Almost like we were just a touch intimidated and pressing a bit much. Trying TOO hard ... or something. - We are young, but so is Ohio St. They will be tough the next few years ... - Tim Miles needs to watch his technicals a bit ... he seems to be getting more and more of late. - I am SO tired of how much our fans complain about officiating. Yes, some calls are bad but we aren't doing ourselves any favors. The calls weren't that bad either. We LOVE to complain ... it seems to be how we deal with the frustration of not being that good of a team right now. - Watson showed why Miles subs him out down the stretch on defense with his late struggles to get a stop on D after Tai fouled out. - All of the above being said ... love the fight I see from this team. Good sign for into the future.

  2. I'm sure the recruits were thinking, "At least I could get playing time here." I would never want a recruit to see tape of that game.Since they were at the game, I'd imagine the atmosphere of Big Ten hoops might impress them enough. The brand of ball is tough. I hope they're interested in making Nebraska basketball better. That's the 'positive' of the night in my book.I was just speaking to how badly played a basketball game they saw, from both teams. We're better than that even with out Shavon, but yesterday was just .... Wow, that was bad. The shooting was poor; the intensity/competitiveness was at a high level. Big Ten hoops is like a cage match...

  3. I don't know about tone it down, but he is better and so are we when he is Tim the coach and leader. Tim the yeller and screamer doesn't do much for this team.

  4. Here's a bizarre stat: Ohio State only had four players who scored for the entire game... only 6 players attempted a shot. This was a tough loss. But I feel confident that once Shields is back we can make a run. I like our chances against the Buckeyes when we are healthy. Ohio State is a team i wouldn't mind drawing in the big ten tourney.

  5. Miles took the heat, said he earned the t. We seem to go as Watson goes. Watson is shooting 29-58 from the floor in our 6 conference wins. 3-9 from 3. 6-8 from the foul line, has 20 assists to 7 turnovers. In our 9 losses, he is shooting 35-99 from the floor. 6-28 from 3. 6-9 from the free throw line. 16 assists to 10 turnovers.

  6. That was the most horse shit officiating I have ever seen. That was an embarrassment to the Big Ten conference and the GD NCAA. Thad Matta should be embarrassed to claim the victory tonight.

    Plays of the night

We lost. Now that that's out of the way what were some of the best plays last night? Lots of hustle out there. There's this which I just got a Twitter notification about. Don't know if this has already landed on the board yet but if so its worth a thousand more looks. And then what about Benny skying amongst the trees, pulling down a one handed rebound, and earning 2 free throws?

  13. Maybe Miles should re-brand himself as "Mr. T"? "I pity the fool who calls a 'T' on me."

  15. I am sure Coach Miles earned his technical yesterday, that said, I had no problem with the timing or the reasoning for the technical. I guess he could have sat by passively, but few coaches in todays game would have done so. Heck, the OSU coaching staff were yelling, screaming and stomping their collective feet as well. The referee's apparently did not hear any magic words from them though. By the way, does anybody else believe that Matta is eerily similar to Norm Stewart???

  16. Ok I've slept on it and I'm still pissed. That was such a hard game. Everything was such a struggle and such a fight. Lots of great hustle plays. But being down a couple guys really hurts in a game like that. A couple extra bodies would've done us good I think. Yes there were a million things we could've done differently to win that game. But my goodness there were some head scratcher calls or no calls. That's the end of my ref complaining. Watson will grow up from a game like like. He had 3 to 4 questionable decisions down the stretch that could've flipped the game. He's only a freshman so a game like last nights will do him good in the long run. Frustrating loss, frustrating season. I think most realists knew it would be a longish year heading in but being so close despite being so young has made it a frustrating one. We are so close to winning bunches or more games. Really have to like our chances for next year but we always say that. Maybe next year will actually be the 'next year' we've always called for though. Seems like it should be.

  18. Uhh, no it didn't. The refs started calling more fouls on OSU. In fact, the T helped NU stay in the game with the variance in FTs being altered in NU's favor after the technical. It seemed pretty close in the 1st half on fouls being called. I think OSU had 4 1st half attempts, Nebraska had 0 attempts to that point. It should have been a defensive foul. It didn't seem to have that much of a difference, as OSU was in the bonus with 13 minutes left. You can get your point across without getting T'd up. I'm not saying these refs were even average, they were terrible, but this is now the 3rd game in the last 6 when he got a technical. That one made free throw could very well have made the difference between us winning and losing. These refs were extremely inconsistent. White gets called for a very questionable moving screen, because the OSU guy flops. Later, I think it was OT, when Watson gets screened, does the exact same thing as the OSU player did when White screened him, and no call. It was obvious the calls were favoring OSU. Miles probably told the ref "call it both ways." That's nearly an automatic T. It was earned. And the calls did get slightly better thereafter. That single point did not cost NU the game. Remember White bricked 2 FTs when OSU was called for a technical. Many times tonight I commented during the ballgame that it was a miserably called game by the referees. Both coaches were not pleased, and both coaches get T'd up. I doubt that Miles truly is targeted, I took it that Miles *knew* that a T was forthcoming. It didn't 'cost' NU the game, that's extremely inaccurate to suggest it did. Like most close games, you can look at a number of plays that "cost" us the game. I don't remember when it happened, but I think it was OSU'S last possession in regulation. They missed a 3. We had 3 guys with a chance to secure the rebound, none of them could. They go onto make 2 FT to force OT. What happens if the refs actually call the foul when OSU bear hugs Watson on the last play? What if they call the obvious flagrant one on OSU when White went for the lay-up and the OSU player never went for the ball? Miles' last 3 t's have been questionable, but you can't do that to the team. I love Miles passion, and energy. I love it for the young guys. He needs to tone it down just a little bit. So, now, Miles is supposed to 'tone it down.' Actually, I hope he keeps pushing the team to get it done, and if that means a T comes along the way as he jostles with the refereeing. Other coaches act a whole lot worse, and rarely (if ever) get a T on 'em. I wonder why that is, but we're led to think that Miles is the one who needs to 'tone it down.' Get real, that's not how the read world of big-time coaching works. And you likely already knew that. Miles likely will want to discuss the issue at a T.O. situation instead of act in any way snarky (if he is) during the back-and-forth during the contest....

  19. Two (at least for today) bad teams working really hard to let the other team win. Under no circumstance should anyone wearing a cream uniform today talk about the officiating of that game as bad as they played, but I'll say Watson should have had two free throws to win the game in regulation.

  21. Couldn't happen to a bigger prick. Man, I wish we were able to shoot 2 more free throws, when Thad Matta is flat out yelling at the ref. The ref just yelled right back at him.

  22. That effing POS has skyrocketed past Aaron Craft as my most hated player of all time. What a effing prima donna, crybaby, jive turkey. Bull in a china shop. Allowed to set illegal screens all night. Allowed to hook the defender all night. Allowed to run full speed from the 3-point line an body block his defender trying to establish position in the lane. Allowed to flail his arms, throw shoulders.

  23. That was winnable game, but you can't shoot 27% from the floor, and think you are going to win. Just to get OT is somewhat of a miracle. My biggest complaint of the refs, was there was a time Tai was shooting free throws, Thad was stalling, and then got in a YELLING match with the ref, and they don't give him a technical. Yet, Miles yells at the refs and they t him up. Every game that Miles has gotten a t, the other coach does something ridiculous and nothing. I think Miles is getting a rep, but c'mon.

  37. Thad wanted a foul (according to Kent) Matt wanted an illegal screen. I wanted a travel. Instead, they call a jump ball. Now, the make-up call where they call a travel.

  38. Tonight is the first time I really see us missing Shavon. But yea kind of a scary time of this game. Strangely opposite for me. We needed 6-7 good minutes of Shavon time against Wisconsin and Maryland.. tonight we just needed White to not be awful from the field.

  39. When you have a roster full of goons like OSU, does it help you more when the refs swallow their whistles? If this is Big Ten basketball, give me something else. At least Wenzel isn't the color guy, that's the only thing that could make this product worse.
