    uneblinstu's post game chatter: ed 5, vol 31 - Iowa(sucks)

    Dang it.

    - When Nebraska jumped to the Big Ten, I expected this rivalry to flare up on the football end of things. That hasn't happened. It's been on the basketball end.

    - I maintain that Andre could be a really significant contributor for this team if he wouldn't get called for being 100 lbs bigger than the guy with the ball. Really frustrating, the kid really does have some skill.

    - Iowa's got some nice pieces, but they're better with Gesell. They've got a shot to make a run in Chicago.

    - The more I see of Adam Woodbury, the more I dislike him.

    - That stretch where NU got back in the game early in the second half and the emotions were at their highest, might have been the most fun in-game stretch of the season.

    - That said, I think NU got caught up in the moment and Iowa maintained their composure a bit better as they went on the decisive run.

    - Gallegos really likes playing on the road, doesn't he. Seems to have all his best games away from home.

    - If only Gallegos had hit that three after the Woodbury flagrant. Could have been as big a turning point as the one on Andre was.

    - Huskers kinda got killed in the paint and on the glass today.

    - Dang, Gallegos has a quick release.

    - Iowa will be a team to watch next year. Could be a top 4 team.

    - Congrats to Menke getting his first field goal of his career.

That's it for me, for now.

I can't hate Iowa for reasons that go back many years, so I won't. I like their team a lot, and that's a good template on how to build a competitor in a tough league.

For us, this is good, because it looks like we may have a hoops rival early with one program already rising quickly and another with strong potential to follow (us). This could be fun for years!

Congrats to Iowa for a well-played game and let's see if we can't get our seniors one last W at the conference tourney.

Just got back from Iowa City and here's a couple thoughts I had:

    1) more red there than I was expecting, maybe 500 to 750 husker fans there, may have not been noticeable on TV, but our run to open the second half we could be heard, and it was really cool to be apart of

    2) when ray can shoot in rythem it is text book, talley and rivers set some great screens to get him quality looks and he put them down, which kept us in the game

    3) coach miles wanted this one bad, he must have had a feeling he was coming in with a tired team cause from the tip, he was working the refs and his team harder than I have seen all year, and there were stretches where the team responded, just couldn't sustain it for the full 40 minutes

    4) shields looked fatigued, a big reason we were getting beat on the boards was he was a step slow on the block-out, and to the ball (we really need some help on the boards next year)

    5) I think with some rest and scouting from this staff we could be a tough out in Chicago next week

Finally, I think we have a potential hardwood rivalry brewing with the team east of the river, us beating them twice when we are at rock bottom talent wise and while they think they are trending upwards has them rattled and a little worried about what we are building in lincoln

I got pretty upset today during the game.  (see game thread) So maybe this could turn into a rivalry.  And I strongly agree that we need to give these guys some serious rest.

I appreciated Miles' response to a question of fatigue after the game:

Miles was asked if the heavy minutes his starters have played, especially during Big Ten action, played a part in Saturday's late-game slide.

“Maybe,” he said. “But, gee, tough break. You get to play college basketball.

“We didn't want to take the bit today. We didn't want to dig in and play defense and bite it the way you have to.”
