Teddy Allen no Longer with the Program

Per Nebraska Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg, Teddy Allen is no longer with the team.

    Teddy Allen

“I would like to thank Coach Hoiberg and his coaching staff for allowing me to come back to Nebraska and have the opportunity to play basketball in the best conference in the country. I appreciate the support I’ve received from everyone in the program. I am thankful for the love I have received from my teammates and the relationships we have built over the last year. I also want to give a special thank you to the Husker fans for their encouragement and support."

“After a lot of thought over the last few days, I have made the decision to focus on getting fully healthy in preparation for the next step in my basketball journey. I will continue to stay at Nebraska for the spring semester and work toward graduation. I am looking forward to what the future holds, as I explore my options.”

    HC Fred Hoiberg

“I enjoyed the opportunity to coach Teddy over the past year, we will support him as he finishes the spring semester and wish him nothing but the best going forward.”

It's often been speculated here that Teddy might decide to go pro after a year and this announcement certain points towards that possibility.  Allen had been dealing with a wrist injury over the last couple of weeks that possibly factored into the decision to shut it down early.  Allen played in 22 games for the Huskers this season, averaging 16.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He had 20 or more points eight times, including a career-high 41-point performance against Penn State on Feb. 23.

Makes no sense why he couldn’t just not play but stay with team and cheer them on last 10 days before leaving after season. Obviously way more to it than that. You don’t leave the program when you’re hurt. You sit out. Regardless, best of luck to him. And WHAT. A. WIN!!!

He seems like he has some demons inside.  He never looks truly happy.  I hope he finds that.  I don't think he has or had any bad intentions, but somehow lost his way a little bit.  He has had a tough life so far.  Here is to hoping that he lands with his feet underneath him.  Perhaps playing some pro ball IF he can find the right fit that will give him the balance he needs would be great.  I could also see scenarios where the wrong place could be devastating for him.  Not exactly sure what I am trying to say, but I wish him well and hope he has peace or finds it soon.

If it truly was a mutual decision, he's helping us out by giving us his scholie right now. We can now formally get a LOI from someone. It also gives us a chance to work on how this is going to look for next year.

On his end if the goal is getting his school done for a degree and healing up, it doesn't help him to be on a plane/hotel for the next 10 days.  Assuming that wrist is limiting him, it had to be frustrating for a guy who very much seems to want this team to win to be physically hampered in his effort to do so.

I'm confused on this part. Aren't we full for next year and the three incoming recruits have already formally signed?

We seem to need a PG.

We're allowed to sign 1 over the scholarship limit.

There is no chance our entire roster is coming back.

Signing one over the limit is what I was missing. Thanks.

Here is how i see things shaking out...  Yvan and Shamiel move on. Leaves us with this:

    T McGowens

    B McGowens

    Banton

    Lat

    Walker

    Breidenbach

    Eduardo

    Tomminaga

    Lakes

    Wood

I also really think Thor or/and Kobe come back, remember they don’t count against scholarships. This leaves us 3 to recruit and we need a true point, and 2 sharpshooters. This is my take.

Id rather keep Shamiel and lose Lakes but you are probably right.

I like having a bruiser like Shamiel.. but having another 3 pt threat.. gosh that means there will be yet another floor spacer w experience. Cut, cut, pass, pass, kick, kick to Lat, Lakes, Tomminaga, Bryce... pick your poison.  Have fun guarding that
