Teddy Allen no Longer with the Program

Per Nebraska Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg, Teddy Allen is no longer with the team.

    Teddy Allen

“I would like to thank Coach Hoiberg and his coaching staff for allowing me to come back to Nebraska and have the opportunity to play basketball in the best conference in the country. I appreciate the support I’ve received from everyone in the program. I am thankful for the love I have received from my teammates and the relationships we have built over the last year. I also want to give a special thank you to the Husker fans for their encouragement and support."

“After a lot of thought over the last few days, I have made the decision to focus on getting fully healthy in preparation for the next step in my basketball journey. I will continue to stay at Nebraska for the spring semester and work toward graduation. I am looking forward to what the future holds, as I explore my options.”

    HC Fred Hoiberg

“I enjoyed the opportunity to coach Teddy over the past year, we will support him as he finishes the spring semester and wish him nothing but the best going forward.”

It's often been speculated here that Teddy might decide to go pro after a year and this announcement certain points towards that possibility.  Allen had been dealing with a wrist injury over the last couple of weeks that possibly factored into the decision to shut it down early.  Allen played in 22 games for the Huskers this season, averaging 16.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He had 20 or more points eight times, including a career-high 41-point performance against Penn State on Feb. 23.

I thought all in all Teddy played pretty well for us during an insanely difficult season.  I hope he graduates and makes some Euro loot.  His game should work well there.

We knew there'd be some drama with him but it was kept pretty minimal.  I'm happy with his time here, and I think he would've had a very difficult time putting up numbers next year with Bryce in the lineup.  A whole lot of those iso attempts are gonna go the freshman's way next season.

To add, one of the worst things you can do as a pro prospect is see your numbers decrease from one season to the next at the college level.  No way Teddy puts up 17 and 5 next year with Bryce on our team.  Those will be Bryce's numbers now.  The more I think about it, the more I think this is a really smart decision on Teddy's part.  I just wish he'd finish the year unless he's nursing that wrist.

If he grad transfers somewhere, it would probably raise some red flags, but I doubt that happens.

I was referring to Green and Allen... Is there another one I'm forgetting?

And Lat this year. So, I guess he counts as a win? Or TBD?

I realize we have a 2021 and 2022 Juco recruit but man we are pretty much 0-2 with these Juco's the last 2 years..  Wouldn't hurt my feelings to not recruit anymore in the near future.

Pretty excited about Keisei, then, I guess. 😉

I truly thought he would make it to the end of the season. Very predictable and said so early on.

Still, judging by these statements, and the circumstances of this season there isn't any reason to throw shade at Teddy.

Best of luck to him. He had a very difficult childhood and deserves the best in life.

Not surprising, but figured he'd make it through the season. Probably fairly mutual for him to shut it down. He sat the other day and we won--he probably didn't like that so much. Always strange when a guy has 41 a week or so ago and then quits shortly thereafter, but oh well. It's kind of like football--when you're lacking talent, you hate to see an obvious talent leave, but also sometimes someone can be one of your better players and you aren't exactly certain if you're better with or without them. Doesn't exactly reek of a team player to quit on your team no matter the time of year, but we also knew what we were getting here on some level.

Good luck to Teddy, we are all trying to live our best life, hope this works out for the best for him.

I'm wondering though what quitting with not much more than a week left in the season really accomplishes?  Maybe the injury is worse than we think?  I know nothing behind the big red basketball curtain, so I'll not speculate beyond that.

What a tough year for all, hope springs eternal for next year.

Good point. Even with the injury he could stay on the team for a couple weeks and cheer them on like Kavas last year.  Coaches were probably ready to part ways with him.

Teddy will be turning 23 years old this offseason. With that in mind i would have been surprised if he was ever considering coming back. He’s never going to be a NBA draft pick so it makes sense to go pro ASAP

Guessing he wanted to hang it up for the year due to his injury and Hoiberg told him to take a hike.

I wish good fortune for Teddy.  It’s a situation that he had to decide what’s best for him.  No sense in him aggravating an injury.  His minutes will be distributed and others need to step up.

We're not over the scholarship limit anymore.  If nothing else this makes the job of landing a PG for next year easier.

We will lose 2 more im guessing. Gives us a chance for a point guard and a shooter.
