      Shields Earns Big Ten Honor
Nebraska wing Shavon Shields was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week Monday morning after leading the Huskers to a 2-0 week. The sophomore from Olathe, Kan. averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as Nebraska posted wins at Indiana and at home over No. 9 Wisconsin. Shields is the first Husker to earn multiple weekly conference honors in a season since Aleks Maric in 2007-08.

Shields led the Huskers with 17 points and eight rebounds in helping the NU to a 70-60 win at Indiana on Wednesday to pick up the program’s first-ever win at Indiana. He then poured in 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting in the win over No. 9 Wisconsin on Sunday, helping Nebraska secure a first round bye in the Big Ten Tournament and the school’s best conference finish since 1997-98. The 26-point effort against Wisconsin marked his fourth 20-point effort of the season.

Winners of eight of its previous nine contests, NU finished the regular season with a 19-11 record and the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament after an 11-7 mark in Big Ten play. The 11 conference wins marks Nebraska’s highest conference win total since the 1965-66 season.

This award is Shields' second of the season and the third time this year an NU player has earned the weekly honor, joining Terran Petteway, the last Husker to win the award on Feb. 17.

Nebraska will play the winner of Thursday's first-round game at the 2014 Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis between Ohio State and Purdue Friday at approximately 1:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be on either ESPN or ESPN2 and on the Husker Sports Radio Network.
