    Yvan Ouedraogo is N

“The first thing you notice about Yvan is his size and physicality, especially for just turning 17 in March. He gives us an immediate physical presence which was a priority for us. He has unbelievable upside and is someone we think can develop and flourish in our system.” - Coach Fred Hoiberg

Yvan Ouedraogo (pronounced Ivan way-drah-O-go) from Bordeaux, France has signed his National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball for Nebraska.

Nebraska Men’s Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg announced Monday morning that Yvan Ouedraogo (pronounced Ivan way-drah-O-go) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball for the Husker basketball program next season.

This past season, Ouedraogo played in 26 games for Centre Fédéral de Basketball, which is a program in the top amateur league in France. Despite turning 17 in March, he averaged 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Ouedraogo was also selected for the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in the U18 Division, averaging 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds against some of Europe’s top youth competition, including a nine-point, 10-rebound performance. He has also represented France in international competition, including the 2018 FIBA U16 European Championships, when he averaged 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Nebraska currently has two scholarships remaining for 2019-20 (three if Isaiah Roby stays in the draft)

Great pickup.  Love this kid’s film.  True post presence with high IQ, good passing ability, and good footwork.

The footwork is OK. He has some things he can clean up.

    Why wait until next year?

You people always talk about "next year." Why not this year?

Agreed. I'd pencil in Yvan to be a starter. The lineup to begin games this winter will look formidable. And Fred & Co. are not done yet. Whoa! GBR !!!

For sure, but he’s awfully crafty and patient in the post for a 6’9” ish 240lb 17yo kid.  He doesn’t get a lot of lift, but he uses his body extremely well and is very physical.

I  watched  some film on him as well.   He looked quick and strong , but was playing most of his game  on the ground.    I guess he’s only 17, so I’m sure he will learn to get above the rim.       Looks like a lot of potential.

I would assume by saying "next year" he meant "this year."  I would still consider the upcoming season to be "next year" right or wrong.  I suppose technically wrong since the school year at UNL is over.

Other than Biggs, Petteway, and Pitchford, Vucetic was the only person we added

And he re-recruited Jervay Green, er, I mean, Shavon Shields.

    No. But here's another hint:

    Junior

    HT/WT

    6' 9", 250 lbs

    HOMETOWN

    St. Louis, MO

I was just going to post the Tyler Cook comparison!

Yvan is clocking in at 6'9" 260#

We're building a similar type team/roster to Iowa but instead of filling it with plodding centers we're filling it with lengthy guards

I didn’t realize Cook is going pro. Tough loss for Iowa.

After watching his videos and reading articles on him.  Here are the things I noticed.

    1. If he is actually 6'9 he had to grow 2-3 inches since those videos were posted

    2. He does not have touch on his shot at all.  I really hope Hoiberg can fix that

    3. He has really good footwork inside the paint.

    4. He has good control of his body even though it looks like he travels and fouls on almost every play.  I watched closely and he is not traveling.

He is a solid post pick up, I am just not sure he is going to be game ready next season? The problem is we need a post to be ready next season!  I have my fingers crossed he is big/strong enough to be servicable on defense ASAP.
