    Bryce McGowens is N

Nebraska Basketball gains the commitment of the first 5 star freshman in school history as Bryce McGowens chooses the Huskers over Georgia.  The combination of family connections (will play alongside brother Trey next year) and Fred Hoiberg's fast paced offense proved to be an offer to good to pass up for McGowens, ranked in the top 30 for the class of 2021 by most national recruiting services.  The 6'6" McGowens is noted for his size and skill combination and deep shooting range

Initially signed to Florida St, McGowens decommitted in October of 2020 and Nebraska immediately entered into the picture with their previous recruitment of Bryce and Trey McGowens' presence.

Anyone know the story about their cousin?  I thought I saw a while ago they have a highly touted cousin.  Wonder if we are working on him at all now?  If anyone has the name, I would appreciate it.

First three games with his new team are in the books.
    Game 1: 20 pts, 3 assists, 3 blocks

    Game 2: 15 pts, 9 assists

    Game 3: 28 pts

Perry Smith Jr on that team is also a 2022 PF being recruited by Nebraska. Led the team with 7 rebounds.

Has any team with a top 20, 5-star NOT made it to the NCAA Tournament?

    Ben Simmons at LSU?

All the time. Probably every single year. Not only were Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons and Anthony Edwards 5 star recruits, but they were the #1 overall picks in the NBA draft and their teams didn't make the tournament. In basketball, unlike football, 5 stars don't all go to blue blood programs.

It's gotta be a short list though, right?

Honestly, no. Off the top of my head, for just this year, Arizona State has Josh Christopher (5 star and future first round pick), and they're below .500.  I'll fact check this later, but I'd guess every year there are multiple teams with 5 star recruits who don't make the tournament.

Edit: Last year, Washington had three 5-stars on their team and went below .500

The first ones I thought of were Mitchell Robinson and Charles Bassey in consecutive years at W. Ky. Robinson's with the Knicks, Bassey's still with the Hilltoppers, so he could still make the tournament this year as a junior. Delano played with him.

AJ Epenesa went to Iowa, but, yes, your statement is mostly accurate.

That's one thing I love about college basketball recruiting. Every year you'll see some random schools (like Nebraska) with an elite signee.

My favorite until now has always been Chauncey Billups at CU.

    On edit: The "REAL" CU.

Any chance McGowens ends up on the McDonalds All-American team?

With the recent bump to #19 on Rivals, that's got me wondering about this question.

Should be announcing the rosters soon for this no?

Looks like he's starting to put some muscle on or am I imagining things?   He not only can shoot he can create, some really nice drives to the hoops in this game.

I thought he looked stronger, as well. He had said that he didn’t start lifting weights until last year.

Not to be a “nattering nabob of negativism,” but Bryce is only a “verbal” commit.

No, he signed a letter of intent.

This is correct.  It's as official as can be.  Here is the Husker Hoops tweet from signing day:
